Buying Cameras on Ebay...

I need a new camera, and i was poking through ebay, and was thinking to myself, "wow, these are sick cameras with good prices." Should i even try looking there or are used cameras on ebay too sketchy to look at...if it helps, i was looking at sony DCR-VX1000

With Paypal, it is harder to be screwed. Remember though, if there is a local camera shop near you, the service and support you can get from them is generally worth the extra coin to buy it from them.

I bought my camera (JVC JY-HD10u) used off of eBay about a month ago. I just checked the feedback and read the description VERY carefully. I also bought my camera from a shop selling their products over ebay so it was a little less sketchy, but when you're dropping 1,200$ on ebay for a used camera, you're gunna be nervous no matter what. So far I've had no problems and I love my camera, fully worth the 1200 I paid for it and I've already shot a ton. make sure you read what is included in the description, sometimes the pictures show stuff that isnt actually included and if you're buying from a shop on ebay like I did, or any other shop pretty much, check the store's feedback here: resellerratings.com this place has honest feedback on a ton of stores with anything electronic, skiierman on ns told me about this site and saved me from a site that was commiting fraud. and most importantly REMEMBER: if you're not positive of something and it seems too good to be true, IT IS. good luck, getting a new camera is so sick.

i got ass raped buying a DSLR on ebay, i wouldnt suggest it...point and shoot your probaly fine though

so you're saying that the gs500 is better? it retails alot cheaper, so i think i'll get that now...hmm...im thinking that because they are electronics, im gonna buy em new, i dont feel comfortable buying used and online...thank you guys!

yes that site is key, i bought a panasonic dvc80 off ebay about two years ago and it went fine. Just be extra careful, dont get sucked into some deal thats wayyy too good to be true, and make sure to communicate with the seller

first of all, no a gs500 is NOT better than a vx1000. better in that it has an LCD that's all.

also, you can always check the camera on squaretrade.com to see if it's eligible for a warranty from squaretrade.

make sure the seller has listed in the auction that he accepts returns if the camera is not as described. and find out how many days you have to return the camera if something like that should occur.

check the feedback, if the seller has anything less than perfect make sure you find those negative ratings and see what was said. i just checked on the feedback of the gl2 link that was posted and found that the seller had two negative ratings within the past month because two items were in worse condition than described so definitely stay away from that.

just ask the seller questions, chances are they'll tell you everything you need to know. IF THEY DON'T KNOW TOO MUCH ABOUT THE ITEM AND ARE VAGUE THEN DON'T BUY FROM THEM stay away from places that are selling the camera for someone else or selling because they won it in a liquidation auction or something.

buying a used camera is just like buying a used car. be prepared to spend some money or maintenance or preventative maintenance.

oh and check with the company that makes the camera for any recalls before you buy, you might have to have an original receipt for any recalls.

there are def good legit deals on ebay for cams, but you gotta do your homework and be patient, i've been watching deals come and go for about 2 months, seeing how many people are bidding and what the average price they're going for. don't fret if you miss out on a deal cause there's always another one that will show whether it's the next day or next week. i was able to find a legit seller selling a brand new fx1 in the box for 2500 shipped and i was confident dealing with him because of his positive feedback, easy communication and i used paypal which is more secure than a check or money order. bottomline just read every single word under the listing and ask questions to the seller when you're not sure about a detail. good luck finding a cam milos
