Buying a Mac.

So any who I am planning on buying a Macbook. The new 2.0GHz one that just came out. I have a budget of like $1600 at the moment. I like the new Macbook as it has some better features, and is newer so it probably won't get outdated as fast. (Even though macs don't get outdated that often anyways) I don't really need all the new features as I only really need it for homework, surfing the web, playing online games, and possibly editing video in the future. However I kind of want to have them just because. I will also be carrying it around on the road and such in my back pack so I want durability. So here's the question: Should I spend $1500 on the new aluminum 2.0 GHz macbook or should I get the 2.4GHz white macbook for $1400?

P.S. If Any one here has a Macbook for around $1500 let me know by PM or something.

Look around dude, You can find a last gen mackbook pro for around 1400 much worth it imo. I have the last version of the 2.4ghz macbook, and I LOVE it, I am a dj and gig with it and its never given me problems, dont go with the 2.0. Its getting pretty dated.

heres the macbook pro for 1,444$ after rebateshttp://www.amazon.com/dp/B0013FLU96/ref=nosim/?tag=fatwalletcom&linkCode=as1

Well I think the black ones are like an extra 50 dollars actually I just looked it up and I can get a 2.4GHz Black one for $1500 as well. It also has fire wire. Aren't the black ones fairly new too?
By the way call me retarded but what does IMO mean?

Yeah dude my mom has the last edition macbook pro they had before this newer model. Great laptop, and if you can find them, way cheaper and a great deal. The new one just has the black keys and black screen frame. Also, the new one has a pretty glossy screen. My mom got the more neutral glossy with her mac and it looks really nice.

What you're saying doesnt make sense. The new macbooks are 2.4 and 2.53, not 2.0. And why would you pay more for LESS ghz?? Please elaborate.

No hate.

Im my opinion Macs aren't worth that big of a price, with that budget you can get a much better PC with higher processor speed, more memory and all that. If I were in you're spot I'd buy an extremely fast PC, plus you can upgrade them in the future.. If that's not an option, then get the MacBook with a 2.4GHz processor, you won't be left un satisfied.

you dont need a mac for what your doing, get a sony aw series, they go for around 1700 so save up a little

I just got a brand new macbook (aluminum case ones) the base level model and I love it.

My parents bought it for me as a birthday/graduation gift. I dunno if I'd spend that much of my own money on it as you can get a pc for a lot cheaper but I love my mac. The programs that come with it are just fun and useful as fuck. the new trackpad is also sick, it makes you god. Buy a new macbook you won't regret it.

the 2.4GHz white macbook for $1400?
Get that if you are only going to do hw and games. Get the other if you going to become a editor!

My one piece of advice when buying is see if you can get an extra battery or two thrown into the deal.

I have the first series that had black ones, used to get 5+ hours of battery life, now I can't run it off the battery, and they're pricey to replace.

I've also got the black aluminum and its doing awesome so far.

I just bought a white macbook this summer and got the free ipod touch with it. The aluminum ones looks baller though, I'd probably go with one of those. You'll love it though man, buy a mac, they're so fast, sleek, and practical

I agree wholeheartedly...I picked up the last-gen 15-in. MBP (model: MB133LL/A) with the 2.4GHZ chip, 2gig RAM, and a 200GB HDD for $1600 on ebay, brand new in the box from legit seller, and that was before the new ones came out, so they can be had even cheaper now.

As far as I'm concerned, I'd still choose this model over even the new MBP because of connectivity. The new MBP has no firewire 400 port, and the new MacBook has not firewire at all, which is the suck...firewire is way faster than USB could dream of being (even though USB 2.0 TECHNICALLY has a higher ceiling for transfer speed)...and the older MBP has a full DVI port, meaning you can connect it to more stuff without the adapter for the new one.

Get one of those off eBay, and you'll have an awesome machine with better connection options.

You're a moron, the iBook is an old machine, before they switched to the Intel CPU, and made other huge changes...and it's an old machine...performance of any electronic device decreases with time.

Macs are awesome.

Yeah, I was a little harsh there, sorry.

I'm in a combative mood from the election discussions.

Sorry to hear that, but every company has issues with certain products at certain times.

Overall, I've been very pleased with my Macs...mostly the OS is responsible though, as almost all computers use the same types of hardware, it's really the software side of things I love about Mac.

Not everybody wants a huge screen dude. As evidenced in the ridiculous increase in e-PC an mini laptop sales over the past year or two

The 17-inch is nice, I'll give you that...but the size rally isn't practical for me to carry around as a portable...if it were primarily going to be used at home, with the occasional trip out of the house, I would go for it...but it's just too big to carry around as much as I do.

$1600 really isn't that much to pay for a top-of-line notebook (granted, it isn't TRUE top of the line, because they make faster, bigger ones, but I'm happy with it).

People need to stop arguing Mac vs. PC. Each side has their arguing points. If you want easy use, simple structure, and fast computing, all for more money get a Mac. If you want variety, options, games, ability to alter the operating system, configure it to your needs, not be confined to an operating system that doesn't let you change it. Both computers have their advantages, it just matters what you are looking for. All i know is I would never buy a mac but it works for a lot of people. I can get a lot more power for my money with a PC but Mac's work for a lot of people. Just suggesting if you want simplicity and usability get a Mac. If you want more speed, configurations, games, and customization then get a PC. Don't rely on the Mac ads on TV that slander PCs. They are mostly untrue and Vista has never given me problems. The ads are hilarious but they make PCs look horrible but if you know how to use a computer and maintain it, it is a lot faster, more stable, and cheaper then any Mac you will buy.

Spark Notes (Summarizing my arguments): If you want usability and ease of use get a Mac. If you want bang for your buck and more versatility as long as you have basic knowledge in computer then get a PC

I have beyond basic computer knowledge, and sill use a mac...if you really want to have options, run Linux...or just UNIX.

The fact that Mac has zero virus threats is also a plus.

yeah I already went through the PC phase... I had it in my hands and was about to purchase it then realised that I think I would rather go Mac. Considering the fact that I want it mostly so I can bring it with me when I go places so I don't want anything over a 15.4" screen. And I don't really know anyone that a is a computer geek, so when my computer gets fucked up with viruses I have to fork out 100 bucks to get it fixed and I'd rather spend that money towards something that i won't have to bring in. Plus I have a PC Desktop here at home so I can do PC stuff on here when it's needed. So I think a PC is kinda outta the question for me right now...

kinda random, but the only thing i dislike about my mac, is i cant play jibbin. fuck that blows, but its sill worth it to get a sick comp.

Partition your drive with a 7GB piece for Windows XP, and run it there.

Or you can attach a bootable drive running windows (I'd go eSATA, for speeds sake, but you might not need that fast), and just boot off the external drive into windows. Easy fix.

in all honesy i have no idea what any of that means haha, wtf is a partition? is that like bootcamp or something? but on a exeternal harddrive? cause im not that desperate for jibbin, ive got other pcs/school comps i can download it on haha

Partitioning is just a way of segmenting and separating your hard drive into parts, or "Partitions".

Bootcamp is Apple's built-in tool for partitioning and installing other OS' on the drive. So it'll allow you to boot something other than OS X on the computer hardware.

That is referred to as "dual-booting", because your have two separate operating systems on the same machine.

What I was suggesting is that, or...if you didn't want to bother partitioning and dual-booting, just install WIN XP on an external hard drive and boot from that when you want to use Windows. That's all.

how big of a hard drive would i need for winXP and do you have to buy winXP? casue i dont wana spenda lot of money for a free game

I think the install takes up about 4-5GB depending on what file system you use and such...sometimes you can use the restore disks from another computer, or torrent a copy of WIN XP to use....I've actually heard you can boot windows off a flash drive, but I've never done it personally.
