Buying a cheap snowmobile

Does anybody have any advice on what to look for when shopping for a used, cheap (~$1000) snowmobile? Thinking of using it for accessing oddball areas mostly. Where can I get a small cheap trailer?

I would look on KSL for both. and i don't know a ton, but i would look at the basic stuff... lower mileage, good maintenance, track length of 144 or higher, that's about all I would say.

i dont want to bum you out man but you will be incredibly lucky to find a sled worthy enough to rip thru pow and not give you headache after headache in maintenence issues for a grand. If you're going to spend the money, you might as well save up and really spend some money so you can get something that will do what you want it to do. i'd say try to shoot for the 1500-1800 range at least.

as for a trailer, it depends on the size of your sled... i bought a 10 footer and spent 400 bucks, a good trailer with working lights, good tires, etc was hard to find for me at a good price.

but do what rich said and check the ksl.com classifieds and dont rush into anything.

Yea KSL is where its at. I was patient and looked for a couple weeks and found an early 90s arctic cat that is in good condition and got it for only 500. Not the coolest looking sled but runs great and has a fairly long track. Also found a 4x8 trailer for 100, but if ur looking to get a trailer for 2 sleds you would need like an 8x8.

Well, being a cheap bastard I ended up buying a snowmobile and a trailer for $800. It's a 97 Arctic Cat powder special, lots of miles, but seems to run well. The trailer needs some work, but hopefully it'll work out.
