Buying a Camera, the big decision

It's so hard to pick the right camera. I really, REALLY like shooting film but I don't have the money to keep buying film and getting it developed and getting a scanner and whatever. So I have to get a digital :(

Anyways, anyone recommend a camera? I might save up for a DSLR since I desperately want a focus ring on the camera so I don't have to really on that goddamn autofocus. I'll have around $1,500 Candian Dollars whenever I get paid next and I have until Late October or Early November to buy the camera. I'd still need to get a 256mb memory card which would add on another $120+ and polarizer which is another $40 unless the lens can use 52mm filters, in which case I'd be very happy.

I've been looking at the Canon EOS 300D (Digital Rebel) but I looked over it because of it's continuous shooting rate but we'll be using a MiniDV cam too so I can make sequences using that. It's the first sub-thousand dollar DSLR ($899 USD) but it's not the same as other DSL cameras. So if anyone can find me a used EOS 30D or 10D or something for around $1,000 USD with or without a lens, I'd be really happy.

Man, I want a film camera so much but I'd be getting like 96 shots per month with film but 1,000 per month on digital so it seems like a decent choice.

Forgot to add another camera I've been looking at for a loooong time. The Fujifilm Finepix s602 Zoom is a super sick digi cam. Got basically everything I want... I completely forgot about it during this post... I guess the only thing I dislike about it would be having to spend $200 Canadian extra on getting the Wide-Converter... but then again, I would be spending like $500 less on this than a DSLR and this actually has a focus ring on it. (!!!)

Anyone out there used it? I'm checking reviews on it right now to try and find some sample photos and stuff.

Oh, and forgot to include that one of the reasons I need a digital is because my shots will be online on a news site and possibly in the 'Northwest Weekly' newspaper along with articles of mine so I need the convenience of digital.

But then again... I can always take my old SLR up there right? So I'm pretty satisfied with the s602.

I got mine Canon MVX150i for some days ago and it feels great. I have allready taped som skating episodes. Its easy to use, 1.33 mega pixel and lot of stuff... the only problem i got is when i take it inn to the computer the images get bad when something moves in it... I thing I maybe has setup the capture program wrong.

The image gets streched in a way.. The border of the moving target gets streched..

Check out the Minolta Dimage 7i and Dimage 7Hi. Both can take 7fps at good resolution, which would be great for sequences, and are awesome all-round camera, and they are in your price range too I think. I was going to get the 7Hi, but I got a GL1 video camera instead. Check out dpreview.com for some really in-depth reviews.

7i and 7hi don't really appeal to me, it's just stuff like how long the battery lasts and it'd cost me more than the s602. I did look into them for a while though.
