Big corperations are the reason that you can goto walmart and buy 2 liters of soda for 2 dollars. Corperations are not trying to screw you by charging high prices. They have competition to deal with. If Target was charging less for the same soda walmart would sell less of that soda

Corporations are good for the economy? Absolutely. The economy is bad for Earth. AS I SAID: Man must learn complete mastery of the world if it is to be saved. We need to be able to control the weather, where the rain falls, turn the oceans into farms, discover alternative, sustainable housing. A million things we need to learn. But we are consumint too fast. We need to slow down.

it already has changed something. It has changed peoples opinions who read this thread. It lets people know it's there. If everyone is aware, there's no reason to buy nothing. It's all a big scheme to raise awareness. I know it won't change the anyhting by itself...but it will start to open peoples eyes to bigger issues of how they're going to get to their 10:00 meeting through the traffic.

I dont think that you guys understand that the point of this whole campaign isn't to change the world in one day. Like ski_pimp said its to get people thinking, make any sort of impact. The fact that its still going on and people are still taking from it, and learning about themselves and the economy through this one campaign is astounding. Walmart has plenty of competition. There are a lot of substitutes to Walmart. For example; Target, Bi-Lo. Giant, Weis, Hills, K-Mart, Ames, your local convenience store, and so many others.

I agree, we are consuming too many natural resources. However corporations are not evil. People are evil for wasting or overusing a good or natural resource.

Where is that article on Walmart?? I want to read it.

skipimp_ makes the point that the whole point of this thread is to raise awareness. It has certainly done that. When I clicked on it to start reading it, it was two pages, I'm going to guess that my reply will be halfway down the third page, and I'm not a slow reader. One of the great things of an internet forum is that it raises topics for discussion. Everone has an opinion on this, you may or may not talk about it with someone else later on, thereby spreading the word out buy nothing day.

I'm personally a fan. I realize it won't have a huge impact on the world, but it does have an impact on every person that is aware of it. Many people will read about it, and realize how much they do consume. Some consumption is necessary, it is part of how we as a society developed.

Bringing in an interesting issue related to the massive consumption that happens this time of year, does getting bigger and better and more things for the holidays, really mean that your family loves you that much more? I don't think so.

Over time, most people experience life involving love, sufffering, compassion and an uspeakable drive for something new... for me there's skiing, nothing more nothing less and it encompasses everything, every day I'm out there.

well, I splurge once and a while and buy a bar of soap and some toilet paper. other than that, a place to stay.....Now im in res (parents) before it was at home, before it was wherever I felt tired. Before that was in a van, before that it was in staff accom at lake louise and before that it was a place in calgary paid for by my best friend the drug grower with tons of dirty money. And peru was in there somewhere too.

I don't really know...If I ever want money, I go get a job. for a few weeks..It's not hard, I have a huge resume.

I just learned how to spend money on only what I need at school i spend 200 a month. I wear the same clothes ive been wearing for 4 years.

minimalism living is always a good time, i will give you that one. i spent six weeks on the road with a band, i left with 200 dollars, the clothes i was wearing and a sweatshirt. that was real cool shit, i made like 300 dollars in reno, so i got to start eating food that wasnt leftovers anymore for the last week.
