Butter-licious

Hey i am a very solid skier only skied park for about two years i have a pretty good list of rotations, grabs, rails etc. but i need help with my butters and pretzels on rails i am on 04 volkl karma's if it helps.

scissor them pretzels, and make sure you're looking back up the rail in the direction you plan to spin. you'll just have to figure butters out for yourself.

for butters just lean like a mo facky and to get on rails do the same and pop out of it, i truthfully have never nose buttered onto a rail but i have tailbuttered and i think same thing would go w/ nose.

The key to good butters: detune the fuck outta your tips. on my park skis, all the edge under the binding is detuned to hell, transitioning into about a foot of severely beveled (but pretty sharp) edge through the nose and tail of the ski. from there on out (about the last foot of the ski), the edge is just as detuned as underfoot.

having the tips fully detuned (and beveled as well), keeps them from hooking up when you press onto the tips.

also, since your skis are 3 years old, they should be pretty damn broken in by now. usually, karmas are pretty stiff, but at that stage in thier life, they should be pretty buttery

dont worry about rusteezee he is just fuckin w/ ya. but a lighter and softer pair of skis would be a better ski for you to butter with and they are easier to throw around in the park.

i keep my tips sharp to intentionally get my tips to hook.  its way easier for me to set a rotation that way.

what are you talking about? you can pretzel any twin tip you want... if you can grind it you can pretzel it, its just a unatural spin out! its just another skill that takes practice, hop on, get low gorrila steeze and sissor to stop your rotation on then lead the rotation off with your head after giving some pop, actually on rails i find its more just lifting your skis up and off rather than pushing off cause that causes more friction and makes you stick. good luck.

it's actually not true, i butter just fine with sharp tips, and can't really see that helping much, as you have more control with your butters if you can grip the snow. the key to butters is all about flexing the ski.

meh, whatever. i cant stand having sharp tips, they ALWAYS hook up and toss me. with dull tips its alot easier to do slower butters instead of just quick revert ones. like if your doing a nose butter 360, its like impossible to make that second 180 with sharp skis. yea, a sharp ski is great for popin around to revert, but for actual butter TRICKS, im still a big fan of detuned tips.

but to each thier own right? and to the thread starter, try either, first sharpen you edges, try them. next day, detune them abit. see what you like more.

umm, on rails. it's where you make your skis uneven to provide more grip on the rail, kinda making them take an X shape. with pretzels you may even do this more extreme by completely dropping your edge to stop your rotation on the rail.

take some flour, milk, and eggs and combine in a bowl and stir until you get dough

take small gobs of dough and roll it into a long strand and then weave it into a pretzel

and for buttering, just put some butter in a bowl and melt it in the microwave and pour it on your pretzel...
