I recently moved from the north east to So Cal with one of my buds. On the way across the country, we got pulled over in Missouri for speeding. We were smoking bowls all morning and actually right when we got pulled over.
The cop splits us up immedietly and questions us seperately. We ended up just giving the cop our bowl, and what small amount of weed we had left (about a gram if that). We both recieved a ticket for posession of 35 grams or less of marijuana, a class A misdemeanor in MO, and tickets for posession of drug paraphanilia.
The marijuana chargs carries a maximum peanalty of $1000 or up to 1 year in jail. The paraphanilia charge, im not so sure about. If someone knows the peanalty it would be great to know.
Any information on MO laws regarding my situation would help, as well as any other information regarding my situation or what I can do to recieve the least peanalty (im broke as fuck from the move, and am having a hard time making money right now. If i were to be hit with a big fine i might have to move back home or something and that would be a disaster.)
Last note: According to the cop who pulled us over, we could make arrangements so we wouldnt have to go all the way back to MO for the court date. According to the lady MO county department who i called from the number on the ticket, it is manditory to appear in court no questions asked, no pity for the poor. If anyone has sone info or tips to help with this situation it would be great too.
 
Usually for a misdemeanor you have to go to the court date, but for cases when you are out of state you can sometimes plead no contest and pay the fine. But you will end up paying the max if you do that.
I got caught doing 96 in a 70 in Oklahoma which is considered reckless driving and a misdemeanor. After talking to the court I was able to pay a fine and basically can't afford car insurance if I decide to move to Oklahoma any time soon.
Call the highway patrol if you cant get answers from the Clerk. They are just fed information to recite and can't really give you too much information.
 
The paraphinelia(sp) charge will amount to nothing. One time I actually got arrested, and they took my pipe (with a half smoked bowl still in it), put it in an evidence bag, and gave it back to me when I got out of holding. Still had a couple hits left in it.

What will most likely happen is they will just group the two charges together or if you get really unlucky you might have to pay a small fine. Assuming your 18, because if you are it isn't even really illegal to have a pipe even with resin in it. I'm surprised you even got a ticket for that honestly. Was it a huge bong or something?

Anyway when I got busted I had a paraphanalia charge written up but it was never mentioned and they just grouped it with the possession charge.

Well guys, I ended up talking to my buddys step dad whos a lawyer and he gave me some good info. I ended up highering a lawyer to represent me in order to not have to go back to MO. (My court date is in 3 days, im still chillen in So Cal.) The lawyer said its a 90 percent chance that we will not have to go back and he said in our case whats probably going to happen is that the posession charge will be dropped and we will recieve a small fine for that pot.
To those who suggested just staying out of MO, obviously this was my first thought. I have no reason to go back there anyways but I actually asked the cop about this and he said the warrant would have been nation wide.
Anyways, the lawyer is costing 1000. I actually talked him down 400 and got him to accept the G in 2 payments so we have more time to save up and shit. He said he could psh the court date back a month, maybe 2 which will give us just under 2 months to hit him with the other 5 and about 3 months to pay the court fees.

listen, if you get in trouble with authorities anywhere in the country, it will carry over to anywhere you go. YOU CAN NEVER RUN FROM WHAT YOU"VE DONE. its tagged to you name and drivers license. if you get pulled over, a national database will show that you have an outstanding ticket in another state.

STOP BEING FUCKING STUPID (not you og poster), you cannot just leave a state and never go back for a couple years.....
 
damn dude sorry to hear that, that really sucks. did you talk to the police officer and tell your stoy on how you are going to live in LA. if i were the cop i would just dump the weed and smash the bowl.

lol dont worry you will get like a 500 dolla fine thats all. my friend got caught with weed tryin to cross the border from canada. it was like 3 grams worth. 500 bucks down the drain.
