Bush's speech

thoughts? anybody else as irritated as I am?

I pray that Teddy Kennedy's plan to vote on it in senate and have that HELP works.

that's wonderful and all, but did you watch the speech? If not, your opinion doesn't matter in this thread. If you did, please explain.

Bush = shit head. I can't wait until congress pulls all the funding and realizes that he sucks and pulls out.

so then we would be trillions of dollars in debt and have accomplished nothing, besides catching saddam? we need to stay there until the iraqi's can take care of it themselves.

what I'm saying is that people act as if this war is a total shit show and we are getting destroyed, that's not really the case....3,018 U.S. soldiers have been killed in 4 years, compare that to world war 2 or Vietnam that is nothing. people die in war, its awful but its a fact. sometimes sacrifices have to be made for good things to happen.

Well put, I figure if they are already in on something, you should stick with it and not be a pussy and back out without accomplishing anything. Who cares about how it was started, the fact is that George Bush has committed himself to Iraq and should not pull out.

Yes, people die in war, but the fact that we are getting ourselves further into a CIVIL war is something that needs to be addressed as well. WWII is NOT something you can compare this war to and Vietnam, as similar as this may be, is a disgraceful comparison (which may very well be the best comparison, but that's another argument). I personally feel that a 'total shit show' that you say we are not in is something that we ARE in because any deaths, even 1 death, is not something that should be tolerated in such a war that is not only our problem. By increasing troops, we are just showing Iraq that they can rely on us more and eventually, we won't be able to pull out at all because they will be so reliant on our incredible numbers and I think that adding more troops now is just getting us further committed to a 3 way civil war in which we have no solid ally.

I could give two fucking shits about the Iraqi people. I think we should pull out and see which group kills the other first. Call me ignorant, flame me, I do not care, im not gonna change my stance

I understand that nobody wants to be in a country that surrenders and that no president wants to be a 'losing war' president, but what's so wrong with admitting we were wrong and surrendering? We'll look like pussies? I personally think that looking like we made a mistake and admitting it is much more valiant than continuing on such a war that has had a failing strategy and may very well continue onto an another failing strategy.

I really don't see anything good out of this. I have not benefited in the slightest bit from this. The Iraqi people haven't benefitted from this. I don't feel any safer, nor do I see the nation being any safer as a result of the Iraq conflict. What are these sacrifices being made for? The freedom of Iraqis? Hell I know plenty of places that would be far easier to "free" and get rid of genocide with far less US casualites, but nothing is done. Where is the justification?

i agree with u 100%, and to whoever said that about being in a "civil war", ur a complete idiot, how r we in a civil war? Becase we r in iraqi with our soldiers, and some ppl just happen to blow themselves up to kill other ppl make it a war? I tend to disagree

Ok you are either A. Retarded or B. Clueless of anything that's going on in Iraq.

There's two groups fighting for power (sunni's shiites), now what do we call that? A civil war...Any further questions?

i agree 100%, we are going to need to show the iraqis that we are not going to do everything for them. But if they know they have support they will be more confident and not feel like they are helpless.

that is when iraq becomes afghanistan of the nintys breeds shitloads of terrorists and we get our asses kicked and the world thinks we are pussies. even if it was a mistake to go in, which i dont think it was, but either way we need to stay and finish the job.

and where does this theory come from? the media? well, what a reliable source

note e sarcasm meter: low |-----------------------x--| high

you know the war was alright with me the first couple years, but now its getting fucking rediculous. And i dont see why we need more soldiers.

we are america, its a shitty job but someones gotta do it. we are in a situation right now where we can make the middle east a safer place and hopefully get some money out of it.

you guys are all talking about "finishing the job", does the end really justify the means? At what point are the costs of victory too high for Bush? will Bush withdraw from Iraq if the costs become too high? is this one big ego issue for Bush?

Probably because is world war II they were fighting in trenches in below freezing weather, some without coats or boots, they didnt have smart weapons eaither, and in vietnam they were in a jungle fighting a bunch of crazy guerillas high on opium. The death toll cant be justified just because its less than the tolls of past wars.

i say get out, fuck the iraqi's, there's no way we'll be able to set up a stable democratic government. those iraqi's are nut balls, at least Saddam had those fools in check, now all the different sects like the Sunni's and Shi'ite's are killing each other, and if we stay or go the new government's gonna be even more shady and corrupt and even more dangerous than saddam's regime.

maybe the next civil war will be east vs west. itll be called "the battle of the snow" and the USA will completely destroy itself.

Honestly, the only way to make the Middle East a safer place is to ignore it. Stay the fuck out of religious lands and ancient history.

I could seriously write a huge essay on what I believe needs to be done to bring peace to the Middle East, surrounding areas and the rest of the world, but I don't think anyone would read it.

Also i think the troops would be better off in afghanistan somewhat, the situation there is pretty bad and the u.s. gets blamed for everything bad that happens and for everything good pakistan takes credit. pakistan is making the hatred towards the U.S. 100 times worse (from the taliban) and something needs to be done there as well.

and by that i mean the other troops we are going to send to Iraq we should send to Afghanistan or something. or not though cause we could solve it diplomatically with Pakistan.

yeah we need to completely ignore the middle east's problems. we don't understand them and they don't understand us so lets just stay away from their crazy relgious lifestyle

call me stupid, but i really think this war is a fucking joke

all the shit you see in the movies and even the mainstream media like cnn, fox, and msnbc thats all bull crap. they can never report the good news because its not entertaining. no one has a clue that a new school just opened a day ago in Iraq. And Afghanistan is getting better as well. You guys also have to understand the peoples religious views. They are not well-educated, and technologically inferior, so its prety much expected that they have created stereotypes of other religions/backgrounds and they are gonna stick with it until they become educated. If i was Bush, i would americanize that bitch (Iraq).

exactly, the taliban HATES us so if were going to be having a conflict in the middle east it should be with them, iraq doesnt pose as much of a terrorist threat to us.

ted kennedy is a boss. i mean hes so awesome the way he lets 25 year old women drown in his car that he drove off a bridge because he was drunk and then the next day go to a senate hearing without telling anyone. what a guy. AWESOME!

yeh our tv got interrupted over here for it (australia).

was interesting that it was made out to be america all the way through it. yes i can see that it has been an american decision and majorly US etc...

but talking to alot of people privatly from this site, hardly anyone knows that ENGLISH and AUSSIE troops are over there to.

a while ago we got reports in australia that bush wanted to pull all the american troops out, and wanted the aussies to stay there and make sure everything worked out ok. same thing went to the british. needless to say not very many people here was amused about it.

you've gotta be the stupidest person ever, you talk about them having stereotypes but what about you, you say they're all uneducated and technologically inferior. this may be true to a certain extent, but it's not like they're living in the fucking stone age, and they do have a college in Baghdad. you say just because they're uneducated they have stereotypes but what about us, the U.S. is very educated and we have many wrongful stereotypes about arabs. your a condescending piece of shit.

right and heres an example of what pakistan does to fuck us up.

ok, so we bomb somewhere with our predator spy/bomb planes to succesfully kill a taliban leader. who takes credit immediatly? pakistan does.

ok, so now we hear bin laden and many others are at a meeting in a village, we bomb that part of the town, we kill 4 taliban leaders...however we kill 18 innocents in the process, guess who says they had nothing to do with it? pakistan does. we take the blame and it turns everyone against us. It's not easy to be the nation trying to help people.

lol me and the gf fell asleep with it just starting and woke up with it ending... from what went on everytime i woke up the speech was awesome

my history teacher told me to watch for specific stuff, and sure enough it was there. his subliminal concepts of manifest destiny (pursuit of life liberty and happiness and its expanse to all nations) and about how he would avoid using some word (dont remember what) which would negate memories of comparison of iraq to vietnam

she was right, suprisingly

yeah dont let your teacher preach stuff like that, its easy to twist peoples words. im not saying dont believe what you want but dont always listen to your teachers just because your supposed to, i take it your incollege though? if not she shouldnt be saying stuff like that.

junior in high school, haha. but thanks, i am pretty mature for my age. ap american history

its not so much she is preaching or that i am hanging on her every word or even believing her, its just one of those things its interesting to hear and then compare the discussed and draw your own conclusions next to anothers

its not the first time we have to deeply involved ourselves into a civil war...ever heard of Solilia...Panama...any of the conflicts in Africa that they have involved our special forces in?
