no actually it wasn't to entirely compare the two...obviously saddam hasn't killed as many as hitler and is not as ambitious as hitler, but his hatred for americans is similar to hitler's hatred for the jews...but no I was making the point that he is a deadly and dangerous man who needed to be dealt with.

The reason we went in there was not because of 9/11, so you bringin that point up makes you look foolish. We went in there because he has been defying the UNs mandates for over 10 years, and noone has taken any action. Well clinton did do a little bombing, but that was worthless. So we decided that giving him a 14th chance was 13 chances too many, he had to go. If you disagree, then by all means go find him and try to befriend him...I won't miss you.

For example, nowhere in constitutional law does it say anything about the seperation of church and state! That idea was derived from a letter between Thomas Jefferson and the King (or maybe Cardinal) of France denying France's propsition that their church be allowed to spread into our country. Thomas Jefferson wrote that HE HIMSELF DID NOT MIX MATTERS OF RELIGION WITH MATTERS OF GOVERNMENT! And although this has nothing to do with Bush (and don't even bother saying it does) it does prove my point that you are all supporting what you do not believe in which in turn makes you all hipocrates and what's worse is you don't even know it...

But anyway, because the US has this whole 'HIGH AND MIGHTY' thing going on we for some reason feel compelled to get in everybody else's business and try to fix what we consider to be problems (see the connection?) but what the people in the country we are trying to 'fix' see as their own normal happy lives...

YOu have to admitt that before you saw the live fotage from iraq during the war you thought that is would be a barron dessert with a few huts, but then when you saw the cities and stuff you were suprised to se a beautiful city that was even nicer and cleaner than ours here in the US. hmmm, maybe that's why we destroyed them! so we could be the best once more! haha (that last part was a joke)

I did a report on the middle east in a geography class once so I did know it can be a nice place...as far as physical appearance...but the hardships and oppression they faced from their governments and religious wars (including israel palestine) are gruesome...I din't really delineate the point you made, and failed to make one of my own so I will stop there.

Saying the US had nothing to do with saddam being in power are quite ignorant, or naive. I'm not saying that they gave him his position, but at the time, Saddam was pro-american, exhiled, and was an assassin, who had a great percent chance of being connected with the disolution of the former regime. After that regime collapsed, there was a vacuum of power, and there didnt seem to be anybody better to replace the government. Since he was in power, he has proved himself as 100 times the better candidate then his predecesors, which isnt saying much. However, as soon as the US funded his operations against iran, and the old regime, they stopped. To add insult to injury, there is a conspiracy thats most likely to be true, that reagan supplied iran with weapons to use against iraq. This is why saddam turned anti-american, in fact who the fuck wouldnt? And another point, the US did instate the shah as dictator of iran(u can in no way prove me wrong about this), and fucked that up as well, and they instated another dictator in kuwait. The US also had TRAINED key al queda members, to fight off russia, once again, they abondoned them to fight a bloody civil war. I have nothing against americans, just the bullshit what there leaders do, and try and justify it. There is NO proof of terrorist links to iraq, rumsfeld did admit that, no proof of wmd's...And liberate a country? ITS AN OCCUPATION. If ANY1 says that the best way to liberate a country is by occupation has severe competency issues. An old saying, the words 'liberation' and 'occupation' should never be in the same sentence without the word 'end'.

There were better ways to get rid of saddam. In fact, if the UN had did the SAME thing as the US had done, it STILL would be better because the UN answers to the world(well not exactly, but still better then the latter part), while the US Army answers to 1 man, the commander in cheif.

All I have to say to the first part of boo's post is that I shouldn't need to back known facts up because everybody knows them already and so they should (unless something is seriously wrong with you) know where they found that info. I personally found most of it at the library by watching films of old news reports and reports on the world for a history class. I have also found a shitload of information by reading about supreme court cases and transcripts of congressional hearings and such because things are often brought up to defend somebody, like after world war II the nazi doctors used the fact that US doctors infected several black males with a disease (I'm pretty sure it was polio but that fact was irrelevent to their defense) and never told them or their families about it.

And I don't think the world is happy! did you read this thread? was anybody happy?

i didnt bash anybody personally. So go ahead and read my statement, if you can find anything to disprove it please. A lot of the attacks on bush were exagerated, however in political debates these are warranted. As for the guy who implied that we shouldnt question our govt, or whatever, isnt that the same mentality that saddam hussein had? So it turns out that what you said was TOTALLY hypocritical. We dont live in a regime, or at least it doesnt appear to be like that. We are funding our governments, and we live in a democracy. In reality WE should have the power, which means we have EVERY right to question our government, who we placed, and who we fund. If you think that way, then u have no use for a vote. This past of course is an opinion, but if u read a. smiths review of democracy, a lot of key points are being used.

Like somebody else has already said, this thread sucks because there's no pleasing everybody; if you completely support or completely disagree with everything somebody says or does you have problems. I do think Saddam needed to be killed so that his people could be saved, but killing his people and never actually even killing him didn't help much, did it? We shouldn't have started this war, and yes I know it's not politicaly a 'war,' since we didn't declare it to be one, but it's a war in my view. We should have found an alternate method of killing Saddam without killing Iraqi soldiers, who were forced to fight and didn't deserve to die, or citizens. And yes, I know we had tried, but we should have tried a lot more.

The Tip????? When I asked for sources I meant reliable ones! But yes, we used to have alliances with Iraq and with Afghanistan as well – international relationships change over time (we used to hate the British remember?). At the time Iran was our enemy – not Iraq so we equipped them to help defeat our enemy. Russia had invaded Afghanistan, and since we weren’t all that keen on Russia, we equipped Afghanistan to fight off their invaders. That hardly makes Saddam a “CIA agent” like you claim. I’m not seeing your point here.

I read the PBS piece and I didn’t see anything in there about the “US trying to exterminate the Kurds long before Saddam.” I read about how Saddam poisoned thousands of Kurds and thousands more fled into the mountains where the US rescued them. Did you even read this article?

technically he wasnt elected as president. He was apointed by the Supreme Court. Technically he lost florida by 6 votes, and lost the country by 1/2 a million. But he is president because of a deadline, they didnt have enough time to count the votes thoroughly, missed it by like 3 hours. And another thing, have u ever heard of agism? Just because some1 doesnt yet have the right to vote, doesnt mean that they dont know more about politics than some1 who does(after all, ppl did vote for bush). So hows about you shut up on that issue. Still looking for ONE good thing that has happenned to this country since he became president, that wont have any ill long term effects on the future.
