Bush Lies Again (about Katrina)

A large portion of the population is extremely critical of the government now, so yes. There is a lot of talk of New Orleans being no different today than it was the day after the storm and it is the governments fault for sure.

a lot of the recent coverage has been on the glorious spirit of the New Orleans culture in continuing mardi gras, you do have to usually dig a bit deeper to find stuff like that, but it is easily accessable to anyone who forms their opinions on more then a 3 minute blurb on the evening local news.
 
EVERYONE knew the levees werent big enough. EVERYONE in polictics surrounding that event lied.

Why dont you make a thread about how their democractic run govt in NO fucked up. The blame is equal on EVERYONE involved.

Funny enough the only people that did a good job at preparing are the people at WalMart- once again proving that private enterprise is much better at being efficient and well run that govt. It would have been much worse if Wal Mart had not given so many people supplies.

Oh so it's the goverment's fault that there was one of the biggest hurricanes in history and it hit a city lying below sealevel and a quarter of the population in that city decided to say fuck off to the government and not evacuate. New Orleans was a ticking time bomb that would inevitably would one day be flooded by a massive hurricane. It just happened to be while Bush was president.
 
it's not his fault that the hurricane hit, it's his fault the government didn't respond anywhere close to adequately. he's saying the condition hasn't changed, about six months later. that's the government's fault, no matter what anyone says.
 
they don't let the media here talk like that, and it's a load of bullshit. This disaster was just allowed to happen to make bush look like he cared afterwards. the news here won't play any of this out as for real at all. The "free media" is just a lie. They talked about it on a latenight show because that stuff isn't taken as seriousley
 
Bush came out publicly and said everything was his fault, so whats the point of blaming him if he already took the fall? Did you just forget or do you have so much fun blasting someone that arguably has one of the hardest jobs in the US.
 
The people of New Orleans chose to ignore the obvious risk that living their posed but when things went to shit they were all looking to the goverment to bail them out.
 
Perhaps the governor of LA could have done something?? Perhaps the lazy fucks who sat there waiting for the gov't to bail them out should have left on time??

Not to mention, he's the leader of the free world, so it's not like he didn't have other pressing matters happening at the same time. That's why there are thousands of government officials...to ASSIST in matters such as these.

did you not here him say in the video conference to tell all officials that they are adequatley prepared just after they said that nobody thought the dykes would hold? The person who could have evac'd that city was G.W. And all the poor people without cars? not everybody drives in the city man, how were they supposed to bail, out run 100 plus mile and hour winds, carrying all their stuff? Ok yeah sure. I'm not one to just jump out on politics but bush's quote was about helping the people during and after the storm, not before. If he moved everybody out before, it wouldn't have been as big of a story.
 
Ok, moron, first of all, there were evacuation measures being taken long before the storm came. Many people just sat on the dumb asses and then blamed Bush when they got stranded...it's their own fault. People without cars? Well, they could have jumped on with some of the evac crews.

Second, I didn't even watch the video conference as I mentioned above.

"The person who could have evac'd that city was G.W." This statement is plain stupid. Of course he could have, but so could have many other people if they used their fucking brains and worked together. You think GW could have just snapped his fingers and made the whole situation run smoothly? Get real dude.

My point is, you guys are basically saying the Pres is the ONLY person who has the power to provide any assistance to the situation. He's not.

There are thousands of others who could have stepped in made something happen, but did they do anything...NO.

To blame loss of life and everything on one person, namely the President, is outright silly.

And tell me that you would just let 30 homeless people jump in your car with you. you wouldn't. everyone knew about new orleans being in danger, for fucks sake it was built below sea level! don't act so suprised... that's like, getting upset because bush knows that some people are allergic to bee stings, but he doesn't demand all bees be shot.

I'm not 'afraid' to see anything bash Bush. I simply feel the need to stand up for situations in which the blame is unfairly distributed.

You aren't asking the right questions. All you are doing is looking for ways to place blame and make him look bad.

The questions you should be asking are:

Who else didn't do their jobs?

How could we better distribute authority next time so that the sole responsibility of saving lives doesn't fall on one indivudual?

Why didn't all the people take it upon themselves to get out of town when instructed?

etc

The questions you are asking do nothing but create more drama and distrust.

We need to ask questions that will help build our country and make it stronger, not more angry and separated.
 
you know, I haven't been all that clear, it wasn't just bush's fault, it was all those people telling him that it would fail, and not really standing up for it, but according to history, George doesn't want to hear negative news. All those people should have been on his ass about it, but they weren't.i dunno, all in all it is the gov't that is lazy, and it's georges fault for not caring, but the point is, it's just wrong that nobody did everything they could have.

Haha yes. You are so right on. Everyone had known for years that New Orleans would fall victim to this type of disaster everntually. The levees couldn't have been made stronger or better enough to prevent the water from getting into the city, as many people are suggesting, especially at a few days notice. The NATURAL disaster couldn't have been prevented.

Also people are saying that all of these people died as a direct result of the government's shortcomings. This obviously doesn't stand up. Thousands of people refused to leave the city. So how is the goverment then responsible for these people's choice not ot leave the city, ultimately causing their death.
 
Some interesting point raised there.

However, I disagree with his statement that the GW government will be summed up by the goings-on in New Orleans.

He could also lay off the metaphors and semantics discussions.
 
I retract any personal comments toward you.

I think we've both made our points and found a middle ground, which I appreciate as it is rare around here.
