It should be noted that he said 'Grandfather', which probably means the guy was smoking in the 40s... it wasn't exactly common knowledge that cigs killed you back then. Hard to blame the guy outright.

Again, you may have noticed tobacco companies claiming that cigarettes weren't harmful as late as the 90s... in the 40s, this was not exactly a universally agreed-upon thing. Virtually no studies had been conducted by that point. So again, it's probably not his fault, if he had no idea when he started. But it's nice to see that 'You screwed up, you can go die in a gutter' mindset. If that's 'harsh reality', then reality needs an adjustment.

Bsh passed a 400 billion dollar health care bill so seniors could have health care. You should really blame the health care provider, if anyone. Please support your statements with facts.

As for Reagan being a bad president...Where the hell did you get that. I beleive it was Reagan that solved the Iran hoostage crisis within a day of his innauguration, after carter spent almost is entire presidency not doing anything about it. He also stopped the Cold War and had a great economy the lasted for many years.

i'm pretty sure my grandpa has done his duty for society and still does. he was a chem teacher all his life, trained riflemen for the army, and now he drives other elderly people who can't drive to boston (3-4 hour drive) to go to a hospital 4 days a week. not to mention he still volunteers to go into elementary classrooms to do labs with kids. my grandpa is not mouching off society. health care would be the least you could give him.

whether you like it or not government supported healthcare is a socialistic institution, and even though it works in finland, it doesnt mean its the right answer for an extremely capitalistic country like America, and the cost of putting something like that into place here would be astronomical, and we definitely dont have the money to do it now

Finland sounds awesome! It is the governments job to protect its citizens. Protecting them includes protecting them from infection and disease. I feel for asac. The saddest part is that asac's grandpa is one of millions that do not have health care because it is too expensive. There was no candidate that had a realistic approach to health care this election year. granted I think Kerry would have done more than Bush did in his first term but as we know that doesn't really matter anymore. Here's what I think: Bush is going into the history books right now as a spitting image of his father. Economy went to shit and we went to war with Iraq. He has already taken the first step to getting away from that image by being reelected. Although I am not a Bush supporter in any means, Bush might start ruling from the middle as opposed to the right, so he can be the 'uniter' that he said he was in 2000. I think he will try to improve our relations with Europe but that, in my mind, is of little significance right now. We can't give democracies to other countries until we help our own.

sorry to hear that. i hope he does better. this is one example of a good, upstanding citezen ( one of the few things i can actually be proud of about living in the usa) getting screwed by the country they7 have given so much to. we can do better than this, and unfortunatly we have re-elected a president that will not help things at all.
