ok so i recntly bought the new skier magazine and was reading an interview with T-hall and apparently burton wants to get in on the ski buisness.. now im tottally ok with this i think it would show some of the snowboarders that make fun of us that skiing is cool and it is progression wat do you guys think?? pros and cons?? againts or for??
 
its cool i guess but i mean c'mon. there is already like tons of ski companies out there and i dont know how much room there is for new ones. and a big company like burton might come in and run littler companies out of business.
 
yeah i agree something like that could happen but i dont think they would have much luck with sales for the first little while but it will be very interesting
 
yeah, it might run little companies out and that would be bad :( but then again it would be a great comeback line to snowboards dissing skiing. and plus they have the money to potentially put out some decent product.

why wouldnt u support it? i already buy a ton of shit fromt hem because they make such dope products. basically everything they make is quality so why not

There is no situation, theres just stupid kids to both sides. Every boarder i know is chill about skiing, and vice versa. You talk as if this is the 90s and theres a war going on the mountain.
 
agreed... they have a sticker on their front door that has skis crossed out. Even though they are right down the road from me and a hometown "company"...fuck burton
 
no man i have tons of friends that board and were chill and we shoot together but im just saying there are tons of kids on either side that have issues with each other and this could put a stop to it
 
Yep. Anyways its not gonna happen, i read an interview with Jake Burton and the interviewer asked about the possibility for burton skis, and he said it wont happen.
 
Burton is the most corporate company, hands down...weather that makes a difference in you minds i dont know, it just doesnt seem like a good idea to have, like someone above me said "another K2 monopoly"...
 
hmmm, it depends whtether or not the skis are nice, i mean burtons pretty corporat company, and them making skis could be pretty bad
 
i would be so down with burton skis. wouldn't ride them...but it would be sick just because Burton used to h-core hate on skiers.
 
if burton does this, they are obviously not going to call it "burton skis". they'll give their ski division a different name so you dont know that they are owned by burton, unless you do a little research. just like they do with the other 2 or 3 snowboard companies they own.
 
word, and I would also say fuck burton, because they have basically said screw skiing. Its like Nike has outerwear and they rip on the sports that theyve been involved in for the last 20 years. I wouldnt even consider their skis, just as I would never wear a R.E.D. helmet or wear ANON.
 
i like burton a lot, i havent read that article yet but i thkink i will now, its sitting right here
 
You guys act like big companies like K2 and Burton are the antichrist. They're the ones that are fueling the most money into both our industries and give the little companies a leg to stand on, so I'd be careful who you hate on.

I think it would be great if burton decided to make skis, they already make a quality product in all of their segments so far. More competition is never a bad thing.
 
That's right. Burton has zero ambition to be in skiing.

Except for Anon, which features a full ski team and is sold in specialty ski-only shops.

Or RED. Also a full team, also sold in specialty ski-only shops.

Let's face it: Burton's been taking what they consider to be baby steps into skiing for years, and if they feel that the timing is right, and that they can get away with it, they're more than capable of dropping a ski into the market. Or just buying whatever failing "independent" ski company they think is worth buying and pumping it full of money. Shit, they've already done it in surfing with Channel Island.

now pipe munky, go back to your private ski hills with "awesome terrain" around the Collingwood area and pretend skiing's still in the early 90s, ok?
 
Why does burton even need to get into skiing? they don't and they won't.

The only thing they will do is market Anon, Gravis and stuff like to to freeskiers. But to go as far and say they would test the skis market is simply not going to happen.

It would hurt their brand heritage.

 
the more companies, the more to choose from. they have a killer business plan and a cult following. I say come and play.
 
I agree completely.

Yes, Burton is the McDonalds of snowsport companies... but, if, by chance, they wind up making decent skis, I'd be down.
 
Channel Islands wasn't failing, Al Merrick just wanted to sell and his personality aligned closely with Burton's. They aren't going to pump it full of money, it isn't going to expand much.

burton would do nothing but better the pathetic situation the ski industry is in right now.
 
I mean how bad can it be. Burton has a ton of money and could possiably make the ski industry stronger. Also making the movie budgets greater and making movie up to par with snowboard movies.
