Burlington Vs Rutland living

What up NS'ers so I recently moved to VT and lived in Burlington this winter and skiied at Stowe, defiantly a sweet place but I might have a job opportunity in Rutland. What is the town of Rutland like and hows Killington or are there any other ski resorts close by? I see Mt Snow's about 1 1/2 right?

haha this is my favorite question ever.

You know how Burlington is probably the best city to live in..... well imagine the opposite of that and you have Rutveg.

If you live in Killy on the mountain road its not that bad, but fuck, you don't want to live in the rut.

rutland isn't that bad. there's definitely some dodgy parts but it's also got some fun shit to do. there's a pretty decent skatepark (flipside), and tons of swimming holes/ cliff jumping areas near by. mt.snow is like 2 hours south, stratton, bromley and okemo are all within an hour.

it's nothing like burlington, but hey, at least it's not new hampshire.

lived in rutland my whole life, and spent a lot of time in burlington. pm me for any questions.
also, rutland may look like a shitplace on the outside, but thats cause all you see when you drive down rt. 7 is all the people on welfare hanging out. theres a lot more to the town than that.

i live in burly and love it. i have a bunch of homies who live in rutland.
id definitely go with burlington. rutlands definitely fun but burlington is much more of a place where you can just cruise around on foot and be anywhere soon. rutland, not so much

Little late getting in on the discussion, but I moved to Rutland 2 years ago from Western New York.

This is my personal opinion, and consider that I really don't think I could take living in Burlington and dealing with the ultra-crunchy granolas day in day out...

Rutland has it's shitty parts (Wal-Mart plaza and area behind), and then it's nicer features. Social opportunities in Rutland itself are limited. but during the winter, Killington has a lot going on (if you can deal with expensive drinks and Jersey-Joey) during the winter.

Outdoors-wise, the Rutland region has a lot going for it.

Obviously you have skiing with Killington, Pico, and Okemo all within 40 minutes radius. Magic Mountain offers a great altenative to the big resorts and is a great place to go on a powder day and is about 45 minutes away.

In the summer, there is tons to do also. Awesome cross-country mountain biking right in town at Pine Hill Park and decent downhill at Killington. Great trail network in Pittsfield is within 30 minutes as well. Bunch of swimming holes and lakes to chill at.

I'd say that you would need to choose your priorities. If a thriving social scene is important to you, then Rutland is definitely not for you. If you don't go out much, and enjoy the access to the outdoors, then Rutland is not all that bad.

good point, rt.7 is the slums. I grew up there until I was 9 until I moved to Brattleboro and I definitely didn't leave in the shittiest of areas but I remember it being pretty hairy all around. I went back recently to visit some friends and it wasn't as bad as I thougth it'd be but I wasn't as comfortable as I wanted to be while I was out.

Killington is pretty dope. Huge mountain, decent parks and the best night life I've experienced as far as "on mountain" goes. you definitely have to try and live within 10 minutes of the mountain if you want some fresh stuff in the morning without having to wake up at the crack ass of dawn...and you won't have to drive far to go home after you have a rough night.

I have a love for Burlington that will never die though, I spent 2 summers there living with friends on Isham street and I absolutley loved it. If you're of age you can't beat Burlington for the night life, concerts and the breweries aroudn there. The food is bomb too and Church Street is my first stop when I get into town for a quick bite.

All I know about Rutland is that it has a dank scene for local bands. UU Church has been having a decent amount of shows lately I do believe.
