Buried Pow Vid - Scary POV: USC Ski Team GoPro

shit guys thats scary. props for getting him out of there and acting quickly. i have a feeling if that happened to me my buddies would just stare at the hole where i disappeared for awhile

I want that snow.. would probably kill myself in an hour or so thought.

Scary vid, the "I cant get to him" talk was brutal

scary... you guys sound like really good friends though, good thing you ski together.

that is very scary stuff man. i was skiing mt hood meadows a few years ago and found out while i was up there that a guy had suffocated after falling in a tree well. so sad = (
i agree , guys, definitely always ski with friends and stick together especially in really deep pow because shit happens and although you may think it won't cause it's rare all it takes is once and if you're there you can save each others lives. not to mention it's a lot more fun than riding alone. glad to hear chris is ok.

wow man that was really scary glad he made it out okay and had such good friends - makes me want to buy an avalung and shovell/probe/beacon set even for inbounds now

I've had that kinda thing happen a few times before, its not fun. A guy died at bridger one year after getting 100 inches in 3 days. He caught his ski going off of a 30ish ft cliff, landed head first and was by himself, so he was basically done for. People even skied over the place where he was buried and someone like 2 days later skied over and hit his body. Fucked up shit.

Yeah, someone died at Mammoth on Sunday actually. Fell in a tree well alone and suffocated they think. Mother of 2 and wife. sucks.

I've had to climb in really deep snow a few times like that. This is by far the best method. You simply cannot sidestep uphill in really deep pow. Pow skis are fat and can help you. Also, If you create one of those walls like that you can use one ski to make a platform and the other to do the pull up lunge method.

I had to do that platform thing once when I was scoping a cliff and found that it just wasn't hittable like I thought. Deep pow is really scary.

Scary shit, climbing uphill in deep pow is so difficult - doing it with a life on the line would be very stressful. The kid who helped his friend out is fucking awesome, I hope if I am ever in the situation of being burried my friends will kick ass & save me w/ efforts like that.

that was really intense. and like someone said, pretty moving when the dude was shouting and trying to save him. glad he was ok in the end

Damn that's scary shit guys! It's so fucking hard to climb uphill through that deep of snow. Looks like Drop 18. I was skiing that shit during the same storms and it got real deep in there. Glad everyone made it out alright. Just shows you when the snow is that deep you gotta be careful no matter where you are. That shit is right between plenty of trails and lifts. Not to mention it's only a couple hundred yards from the parking lot

super scary, this really goes to show that you should never ski alone no matter where you are and that good friends don't give up.

I found that in real deep snow it is helpful to keep one ski on to push with and take the other off to use it with the ladder technique, Digging in with your poles helps a lot too and can save a lot of energy

Glad to see he made it out, how much gear was lost in that snow?

bumping this so everyone stays aware of the dangers involved with skiing. be careful this season!

I haz fucked up and gone for a ride a couple times

the scareist near deat experience involed a inbounds treewell nearly narsid out. my pack was jammed and if my bros would have not took the time to watch and stop their fresh pow pillagin

I hope patorl on sweep would have found me.

be a bo watch your homies back.

if i recall brah hucked and lawndarted other bro had to bootpack wallow to help bro 1 strong viddy

and thoughts,

It is infanately eaier to skin up hill in most situations.

Shit that is super sketch. Good thing your alright. That landing looked prime too. I never would have guessed there was a giant cavity there.

Sick bump.

But it's a good thing he was with friends. And the camera guy reacted well. He went to check on him right away, some people would have stood there yelling, "dude, you okay"?
