Bummer

Whats Up fellow Newschoolers, I just would like to share a story that happened to me a week or two ago that really bummed me out.

I work at a small ski resort in Ohio, the one where Big Air Dave is from, anyways, I am on the park crew there and was raking a feature when I see a Dad and his son skiing down the hill. I didn't pay much attention to them until I noticed the 5 or 6 year old son wipe out maybe 10-15 feet in front of the rail yet not in obstruction to the feature. While the Dad was helping his son up, another skiier rode by slowed down and yelled "This is why you shouldn't be here, get the hell out" and continued skiing. The father quickly picked up his son looked at me in an embarrassed and sad way and continued down the hill. I was too stunned to even say anything to the man and I was pissed about it the rest of the night. I never saw the man again, and was never able to catch up to the skiier, but I just thought that was such a dick move. Isn't skiing all about having fun? I get the frustration of little kids and parents being in the parks and cutting you off and what not, but when there not even in your way why be a jerk? I mean we all had to get our start somewhere and I just felt so bad for that man and his son.

Sorry about the long story, I just wanted to share this and hear what people think along with their own experiences, I was just really bummed out by this.

I don't agree with yelling at little kids. They're just trying to have fun. However, I have been cut off so many fucking times by snowboarders that I just yell 'fuck you' to them... snowboarders have the least spatial awareness and manners of anyone that I've ever met

I don't think yelling at a father and his kid is the right thing but I do believe the father should be responsible of his kid and make sure he doesn't cut anyone off.

also, how you told the story seems that the kid fell prior to the yelling skier coming up which means the skier wasn't cut off he just was not able to hit the feature in which case the skier is a dick. Everyone falls after rails/jumps occasionally the skier shouldn't blame the kid for falling in the landing, the skier could have waited until the kid got up and skied away

Ya i agree, if its a kid lay off on them even if there huge gapers. I guarantee everyone was close to that position. Snowboarding on the other hand is a different story.

I try to just let the kids be, but there's a line. it's not a playground. you just have to let the kids know that what they're doing is wrong sometimes, cause they have no idea.

I went up the chair a few weeks ago with a mother and her kid, and the mom was explaining to the kid that the object of the terrain park is to go off the lips of the rails and stay as far away from the metal as possible, and it was so hard not to say "go away and never come back".

but the moral of the story is that kids sometimes literally believe that the park is an obstacle course/playground.
