Building good jumps

How do you guys go about buildng your jumps? We've built small jumps like 3 feet high or so, big enough to do 3s, but nothing bigger than that. I know we could just buildt bigger (obviously), but i always hear guys talkin about salt and stuff. Does that help?

find a transition to put ur jump on, that ill give u the best air. and as for building it, just stomp on it and pack it down or let it sit overnight. actully the best thing to do is to use chunks of snow and build it up like that.

no need to let it sit over nite, just find a decent dowhnill to flat to downhill, and throw up your shit, and then salt it or water it (winter time) and let it chill for 20 minutes...then go session..

Use Fertalizer. That has Amonium(sp?) Nitrate in it and that will almost instantly freeze the snow. Only use it when the temp isnt cold enought to freeze the snow it self. Best temp like said in the prev post 30-35 or so. Plus or minus a few degrees.

my best advice...fine a place that already has most of what you need...short steep inrun (so you dont have to hike much) flat area, preferably with some sort of snow covered rock or something, and then a steep long downhill, smooth transition out and no trees (trees hurt...i know) we built a jump at fortress ski area near calgary (really crappy hill) but the take off was 6 feet high (on a snow covered rock, we barely had to do anything but shape it) then there was 20 feet of flat to a little windlip (like 2 feet high) and then 50 feet of landing...we were doing corked 7's, d-spins and my friend did an accidental dinner roll 9....sweet ass jump (i'll try to get some pics or vids of it)

what about for anything over 35? we wanna hike up and build some stuff next weekend.

meh..

why don't they put a knife on a spork? doesn't that make sense to you?

i bet we could build something good enough for at least 7s on the little hill by the parking lot kevin. those one guys were doing switch 5s and stuff, we just gotta build it up a little more.

yeah salt is key build a good amount of kick with as good as a tranny as you can though bigger is better obivously and snow chunks help

just build the jump like at least 5 ft tall...to a steep landing...nice smooth trany, and your set

What are u talking about, Fortress rocks u just need some conections with the ab team and if u do it can be one of the best hillz in ablerta because its ussaly not that buisy and theres bean a few movies mad there like: the Fortress and 101....

Make sure your jump is wide enough so u can spin and it makes it more stable. you can never build a jump that is to small.

U wanna makek sure that the jump has set by letting it sit fo lke 10-15 min other wise it will fall apart realy easy. look in videos fo like the ideas on how to build a nice lookin jump with a smooth transition. make sure u have some snowboards to use to build up the tombstone(the back part)

peace out

In jackson, because the snow is so light, it really makes a good jump if you have lots of snowboards and skis to hold all of the snow in one area. First you put them in the back then take some off and put them on one of the sides then fill in the corners and then move all of the barrier to one side and build up that side. Stomp on the part with skis/snowboards and then do all of those steps to the other side

we just built 2 backcountry hits this weekend at my friends cabin...one was a 25 foot gap (that didnt quite work...we're all a little sore from it) and the other was a 15 foot step up....we built the step up, hit it a few times and decided it kicked too quickly, so we dug the inrun out for a smoother longer transition...we ended up with a 30 meter long trench...one meter wide and 12 feet high going into a 5 foot kicker with a 15 foot step up behind it....it was the coolest thing ive ever hit...we even did a night session with a bonfire, candles, and head lamps

I hate when you have to build a trench and you are all by yourself, it takes so long. That's why most of the time i make jumps that look to mellow and the turn out perfect.

Did anyone hit the quarterpipe jump on the chute down from international at Alpental this year? it looked huge, had a great landing going down the side of the chute... I was just wondering if it would be worth hiking up to this weekend.

Oh, and did anyone else hit the widowmaker up there this year too? I only got to hit it when it was pretty small, did anyone get enough air to get to the transition?
