Building College Resumes and Planning for Future

Alright so i already have a few AP classes under my belt with taking three this year as a Sophomore in highschool. (I know some colleges dont accept AP credits but its a good experience anyways) So, im doing okay with my core classes etc. BUT what extra curricular activities can be good for not only building your college resumes but also good experiences? Im in NHS (national honors society) and MUN (modeled United Nations) and im thinking about maybe joining spanish club also because why not. then also joining debate junior and senior year. I play Lacrosse and im hoping to be a captain next year which could show leadership and then in the future trying to become a student body officer or president of one of the clubs im in. SO NS in your personal experience have you found to be good experiences and also possibly good things to put on your college resumes? Tell me what your did/ are doing and your experiences for getting prepared for college or experiences in applying to colleges.

Sparknotes- what did you do to build your college resume, what looks good, and is a good experience? and also what financial preparations did you undergo to prepare yourself for your future

Sounds like you have plenty going on. Find things you are passionate about and don't do it just for the resume. Also, don't spread yourself too thin. College admission officers are experts at seeing when people are doing shit because they love it or doing it because they think itll help them get in.

can i get a source for that please?

personally i say just do what you care about because it will make you happier, but if your goal is just to get into a certain university just do lots of volunteer work.

I have multiple friends who work for college admissions. Maybe "expert" isnt the right term but they hate it when someone is in ever club a school offers. No one has that many passions. They care about devotion to what someone cares about more than trying to achieve in everything

In all honesty, what you're doing is all pretty vanilla. It will probably get you in to your pick of colleges, but you'll be the former prize pet with few skills in a sea of massive competition.

You're trying to think long term, and that's nice. What happens when you apply for a major (assuming it is competitive)? An internship? A job? Something else? Things like model UN start to lose their shine because they aren't all that relevant. Focus more on the shit you truly love. Not only can that help short term, but also far down the road. Extra curriculars - be it volunteer work, internships, trade programs, etc - that pertain to your deep interests are out there (most likely) and will better suit you.

that enough of a source for you? sorry it isn't peer reviewed

actually the first reply was perfectly satisfactory for me.

If you're taking 3 APs in your sophomore year I am guessing you're pretty smart and will apply to Ivy league type schools, right? None of them will take any APs as credit unless you get like a 5 in BC calc, but that'll be about it. After you get accepted somewhere, NHS and Model UN no one cares about at all, not one job I have ever applied to asked about either. Figure out what you want to do with your life and start taking those classes. It'll help immensely as you will know beforehand if you actually want to go into that field.

Quit worrying about classes and clubs so much, you're a 16 year old kid. Enjoy being a kid.
