building boxes

are they just plexie-glass on top of a box of wood? how do you get the plexie glass to stay on the wood? (glue?) I know there is that plastic stupp you can heat up and it will bend. is that what you would us for a rainbow?

All I can do is 50-50 a box right now. is sliding one easyer or harder than a flat rail?

easier. but it depends occasionly. i find lots of boxes are sticky especially at breck. not sure about construction though

does anyone else besides me have fantasies about being in a back while it gets robbed and then getting dragged into the vault, getting raped and then getting locked in there to die? - alpentalik

well the only one I've been on is one at Eldora. it was really fast. I thought it might be hard because it was that fast and slipery.

you would use nails to hold the plexiglass on top of the wood, just make sure you drill the nails in all the way!

instead of nails use sup-par screws or whatever they're called. instead of sticking up they actually go into the wood. boxes are definetly easier to slide. it's all confidence and just realize it's hard to hurt yourself on

I'd use teflon and counter sink the screws while drilling pilot holes.. that should work.

metal boxes are horrible. they destroy your edges faster than rails

i just mightsay use a flathead screw, predrill a hole and put it onto the wood from the bottom, or countersunk and I think lexan works, as does the stuff used on hockey rink boards

6k posts and cant slide a box? or am i missing something here? Are we talking about just rainbow boxes? Cuz those are pretty hard to build and slide.

lexan works fine just really expensive but you can go to hockey rinks and see if they have some puckboard laying around you can have

DONT USE PLEXI-GLASS!!! i used it on a box and was learning 270s but it starts to chip off on the sides and i got a piece of plexiglass lodged in my ski. it was right by the edge and went all the way to the base of my ski.

ya lexan is really good, you could use it for rainbox boxes cuz it bends without needing to heat it up

yes don't use plexi class, it broke on me once, but use the ones that people reccomend, but too apply the top sheet onto your box i would get a drill and a counter sink drill bit, the right one for ur screws and drill holes and put the screws in and make sure the head of the screws doesnt stick out, if so then just get the drill and drill deeper

i made one out of pvc pipe i just got a couple 1/4" pieces and screwed them to a wooden frame. it worked fine and it doesn't wreck your skiis or board. and put the screws in from the bottom so you don't have to worry about them.

this thread is almost 4 years old. i have a feeling he didn't have 6k posts when he wrote this.

you have to counter sink the screws...which means you need to get a counter sink drill bit. It is a drill bit that drills a hole, and also a "sunken in divot" over the hole, which clearly allows the head of the screws to drop below the surface level of the lexan or plexiglass

you can use plexiglass...what i suggest is you cover the surface with fairly thin plywood and then adheare thin plexiglass on it...its really durable even when its cold so it wont chip

no dont use it will and does chip. it gets the shit torn out of it actually. i glued it to plywood too.

im looking at it right now and it chips whether its cold or not

was this what you wanted?

Its not a box, just 2 rails that are set further apart.
