Building a "public park" park, looking for tips.

While I certainly don't mind Hylands park, over a while now I've gotten a bit sick of footing the bill for lift tickets, the commute out there from minneapolis, and paying for season passes.

As such, I'm in the process of building up a yard park. Living in Minneapolis though, I don't exactly have a "yard", so we've started building it up in a fairly secluded neighborhood park that doesn't get much use in the winter. This circumstance poses a set of specific problems, "specifically" being that I don't want to put a lot of money into a spot that could easily get torn down.

What I am mostly afraid of is throwing a bunch of jibs together just to see them taken/busted up by cops, kids, and the neighborhood in general.

So what my question for all of you uppermidwest schoolers is: what kind of features can you think of that would be fun to ride, but made primarily from stuff that can be reclaimed from parks, or built on pretty dirt cheap costs? We don't have 80 dollars to spend on every jib, much less do we want to have that much invested into the park when it does eventually get torn down.

The idea behind this whole project is to build a mini park for anyone in the community, and this site, who feels like using it, so that anyone could come and session when they didn't want to pay for hyland, or just felt like a change of scenery.

Thanks for anyone that wants to help out, or just for the folks who might be interested in coming and checking it out once we've got a bit more snow, and a bit more features going. For anyone that thinks this is a bad idea, I am more that down to hear why, so let me know.

Picnic tables, some nice thick three inch pvc, and some screw-clamps, that way if your worried about the setup you can just unclamp the rails and stash them in some bushes or something. That's what we use in usually flat illinois at the local drainage ditches. If snow is plentiful you can use igloo style blocks or some hard stuff from snowplow piles to setup the rails at any angle you want.

About an hour ago we went up there, bolt cut free a table, and relocated it against the tree to be used as a wall ride, the snow's way too airy right now to pack into a good lead in, but we're gonna move in some dense stuff from a nearby parking lot eventually.

I was thinking about getting some of the plastic surface used for boxes cut to the dimensions of a picnic table, then maybe doing a temporary install of it on the top of a picnic table, effectively giving us a box without the cost of a whole box, anyone see any potential issue with this that I might be missing?

a big pvc tube like, 10+ inches in diameter, always a good bet. and if you don't mind 'borrowing' from a school or something, some bike racks

Well considering a legit box from fr*sh tip is like 2 g's.
PVC piping is appx. $1 a footShitty 2x4's under 2$Trees - Free ex. hitching post / pole jam.
I would try to not damage city property ex. picnic tables / bike racks for the sake of longevity of your set ups. Maybe just have them around to set up on the fly. Corrugated pipe. Find someone who welds, you can always find piping.
If you want to be super legit-contact the city about it. Duluth just got a public cement skatepark because a couple of kids were super-pro-active for a couple of years and got what they wanted. I'm sure if you were determined enough you / the ski community could turn out something great if everyone pitches in.

Denver actually has something similar to what you are trying to make. Research Ruby Hill Park for more info. It is supported and maintained by Winter Park though so they have a lot more money being put into it. What park are you doing this at?

The picnic table wall is up and running and we're in the process of building a booter, but the damn snow just wont pack well, we've tried salt, water, nothing seems to make the shit stick. It needs to warm up.

i have 5 days off after tommorow, thinking where im going to go, mayby here to check it out......wheres this place at, when you going next?
