Hey, does anyone else get bruised shins from their boots after a good day of skiing? It sucks, cause when I go skiing a couple days in a row all the days but the first are so fuckin painful. It's not my boots either, I have great boots and it's always happened to me with every pair I've ever had, so...

So, who else does this hapen to and what do you do to stop it?

get off your ass and stop landing backseat. problem sloved. you can also get inserts you put in your boots to pad your shins

Is that really the problem? I'm landing too far back? Ok, well thanks dude. I'll work on that. I'll also check out those inserts...

yeah, i also have the same problem and have had the problem with every pare of boots also. i still havn't figured it out.

yeah, a lot of it has to do with landing back seat. work an landing more centered on your skis. you will notice a huge diference. I know I did.

yeah, it's all the backseat thing. last year i landed a few times WAY in the backseat, and really hard, and gave myself shin splints. be careful that you don't do that, cause they're a mothafuckin bitch, and hurt for years! and don't rely on inserts, they won't help THAT much, just focus on better balance

be aware, ski with care

maybe the new soft boots would work better for you

me: oh really!??! so can you walk on water?

some drunk: no, but i can walk on kool-aid.

Well I do clear stuff, for sure! So it's gotta be from landing back when I land, I'll definanly work on that. Again, thanks a lot!

Yea, I was just inquiring about shin splints, and I think I may have them....it's been a while since I skied last and they still hurt like a bitch! Oh well, I'll just OD on the pain killers again...

it's def from landing back seat. but skiing back seat over crud/bumps will do that same thing. i lean forward so much that I don't grow hair on my shins from november thru may...

it only takes a couple sketchy landings til you feel the pain. also, if you run, beware. running on pavement can worsen shin splints.

Shell size your boots out as well. If you can fit more than one and a half fingers behind your heel when you toes are just touching the front then they are quite possibly too big.

Bubba....... you my ONLY friend.

the trick is icing. a solid hour of icing your shins 15 mins on, 15 mins off, will get rid of that pain. do it in front of the t.v. if u dont feel like lyin down and starin at a wall for an hour

I am not doing the grabs because I am getting a thrill out of touching my ski-JP Auclair

yeah, my shins have been getting more and more sore so far this season. I think i have shin splints because now even after not skiing for a week it hurts it touch them even lightly

yea I landed in the backseat a bunch today and my shins are burning, happens to me on spins for some reason...

I was thinking....I wonder if it could also be from hiking the park? hmmm....

U duno mmmm, I think that's when I do it too, maybe we're just a little of axis...

i doubt that. u lean forward when hiking in boots, it's prolly helping jam your shins back into one piece. same advice, eat drugs and learn to stomp.

Oh believe me, I've had plenty of the ibuprofens....

i have the same problem too - and a softer boot will help but a softer liner will definitely screw you up more. apparently my shins are getting all screwed up from having intuition liners which are super duper soft and have no support at all. solution for soft liners, besides getting high end race ones, is cranking the boots intensely. then all you get is your avg shin bang!

tada!

i just got the transfer boots they're very comfortable and do help with shin bang.

rossi freerides are tight too, the tongue is really soft. salomons and langes both hurt my shins, but not the rossi's.

From the start to the gun I never claimed to be right.

i heard a rumor that you eventually get calluses on your shins if you ski enough. is that true ? cuz i get hardcore shin bash.

might aslo be from walking in your boots too much, like walking up to hit something... thats what i think mine is from

people out east get shin splints by just skiing, people out west get them from landing back seat. so dont go saying just stop landing back seat to a kid landing on ice.

i just take ib profin before i go out skiing, other wise yeah my shins hurt all the time, must land backseat alot i guess?

yeah, its called shin bang i think, i fucking hate it and i get it SO bad, im pretty sure i have perminantly damaged my shins cuz now i even get it somtimes from landing back seet of a rails, but yeah back seat= no good

I have a similar problem. It's not just from landing backseat on jumps either. I've gotten from skiing heavy pow real fast, where I have to lean back a bit in the flats. But it's the same concept.

In addition to all the advice about icing, stretching, etc., I've found that Ibuprofen (Motrin, etc.) helps a bit.

Also, custom cork insoles (~$150) help a lot with shin splints. They keep your foot in the same position the whole time. So your arch isn't pushing up or down, straining your ankle/calf muscles.

I've said this before, but I used to get TERRIBLE shin bang at the beginning of the season (to the point where when I was skiing my body was trembling from the adrenaline and pain). My remedy was running. I know it seems like the last thing you want to do, but it works like a charm. It will hurt like a bitch for the first 3 miles or so, but after that your shin muscles relax and it will go away naturally. Run t least 6 miles and you should be good. I think it works because shin bang is in the muscles and when you run you work/relax them. Another thing to do is on the way home lift your toe/ foot up toward your shin so your working/flexing the shin muscle. Works kinda the same way. Hope this helps!

Oh and I run a lot so I dunno if this would work on non runners, but I assume it would. Might even work faster/better!

idk much about the booster strap, no clue if the shit even works but i like my boots tight as fuck so it makes my feet str8 up feel glued to my skis- n e body whos got the strap think that the strap will just help keep'n my boots nice n tight, my boots are new too i just want em tighter

i have booster straps, got em for christmas, i dno how they work cuz my shins have been killing me so abd that it kills to havem so tight. i have last years salomon 1080 foil boots...i guess im really dumb cuz i cant figure out the right way to put em on and keep em on lol

bring htem to a shop, on my brothers langes they had to grind hte rivets out to get the boosters on

get boots that fit you, either the're too big or you ride them too loose

or just try not to land backseat
