Brooks Lift Tickets

So, as another thread reminded me of my formerly genius idea, I thought I would throw it out there on anyone else who would like to see a reduced-price ticket at Stevens for the Brooks chair only. This fellow by the name of "downhillkilla" seems to have some connection with the Pass and says that they had thought of it before but didn't think they had the market for it. Basically, if you think this would be as good of an idea as I do, you should shoot customer service an email at customerservice@stevenspass.com to tell them just how good of idea you think it is. Hopefully I'm not alone in this frame of mind, but if im not, lets fill up their inboxes and make it happen. Go team Go!

oh yes, and here's what I wrote them, if you were looking for an example or more reasoning:
Stevens Pass Customer Service,
I write you today to propose a new ticket in your pricing system. As a resident of Ellensburg, I have always been obligatorily loyal to the Snoqualmie season pass, but have always enjoyed the random day at Stevens to appreciate the vast terrain and incredible park. As a skier, I have always found the Stevens park far superior to that of The Summit in variety, quantity, and size of jumps. Because of this, in compound with many friends whom ski at Stevens, I always end up making the trip out at least once a year. I personally would gladly make this trip more were it not for the outstanding price of a single day ticket. I realize that daily ticket prices cannot change, but I would like to propose a Brooks-only ticket, or even season pass, that could come at a reduced price for access to that lift alone. I know that there are many others that share the same situation as me, not only with passes to Snoqualmie, but also those who don't buy season passes in fear of the commitment. This pass could also be easily marketed to the younger crowd as the park-only pass that comes at a reduced price, allowing people to get accustomed to the mountain and make them want to return and buy season passes in the future. I have seen enormous success in this strategy with The Summit and it's EZ Ski 123 program, which allows people to get 3 lessons, rentals, and passes for an attractive $99. A very large proportion of these clients turn around and buy season passes for the next year, as they have already accustomed themselves to Snoqualmie. Lastly, I truly feel that this would help with lift-line congestion on the Skyline lift. Taking Skyline and "the chutes" is often an attractive alternative to the Brooks chair as it can be somewhat faster and you get to ski some. By having the Brooks-only pass, you would shift this population from the often-crowded Skyline to Brooks, which from personal experience very seldomly has any sort of line. In all, I feel that there is a large niche in the way of reduced-price passes for your Brooks lift to service the park only. I feel that it would draw more people to your mountain, reduce lines on over-serviced lifts, and allow people to experience your mountain's atmosphere and have them wanting to come back for more. Thank you so much for your time,
-Eric Ardissono

So let me get this straight... You want it to be less expensive for people to come up and ride only the part of their mountain that takes the most money and resources to maintain?

I think you need to sign up for some business classes.

(A) I wrote this for personal benefit, nothing else. The fact that you though i was trying to help them just shows that i wrote it well.
(B) The vast majority of their income, which then goes into the park, comes from weekend warriors and recreational skiers, who would benefit from there being less lines at Skyline and would feel more comfortable not having to share the lift lines with a bunch of gangster-looking hooligans

i think it's a great idea!! credit to the guy in the other thread who brought it up..

i could see this giving me at least 5-10 more fresh pow lines throughout the season!

I didn't think you were trying to help them. I was just trying to make the point that there's no way this is going to happen.

yea yea, why dont you go tell an 8 year old he'll never amount to anything, unless you already have today of course.

It's much more fun to watch that 8 year old grow up thinking he will amount to something only to find out mid junior year in high school that booze sex and blow are much more interesting.

Im the park manager. would love to see it but doubt it will happen. check out the MDP on the main website in it brooks is shorter and faster

^yea, I doubt it will too, but theres no harm in trying, especially when you're bored and feel like trying to be diplomatic. On the other hand, I think it's really cool that you, as the park manager are actually paying attention to skiers, I mean, you're on a skiing website even which kind of blows my mind at the moment, as I'm somewhat used to the whole "skiers should be ignored, skiers suck and it makes me cool for thinking that" mentality, but then again Im pretty accustomed to Krush so what can you say (that said, I have nothing against Kevin, the Summit Park manager). In all, thanks for kind of supporting my pipe dream guys, Stevens pass park manager is cool, and I would absolutely buy a book by that title.

does it help that I have been skiing for close to 21 years? At stevens? The thing that bugs me the most is when I tell people what I do at the pass they say "oh you run the snowboard park?" I just want to slap them over and over. THese days you have to caitor to a wide spectrum of riders for the park. Its just not snowboarders its skiiers snowskaters, older people who like mellow flat boxes (my dad 52) young kids that can throw 1080s before they can drive a car and people in their 80s who cant drive a car. I know Kevin too and hes an all right guy. He's just sort of focused on boarder aspect of park building. I try and stay even as possible so every one has fun.

^well yes, I suppose that would help you be non-discriminatory towards skiers, but I like your entire outlook on the current situation, its definitely a breath of fresh air having been cooped up at the Summit for so long. Anyways, Id say this thread got off topic enough, but yea, thanks everyone, peace and love, all that stuff.

What blows my mind is that you would be willing to pass up everything else that Steven's Pass has to offer. Sure the park has been amazing recently. However that does not mean that it is the best part of Stevens. The variety of terrain that Stevens offers is incredible.

Dont get me wrong, the rest of Stevens is cool and has a lot to offer, but the only reason I usually end up going out there is because my friends have season passes there, being from uw and all, because thats the thing to do, and all my friends are park rats. Thus, Id rather not have to spend a rediculous 50 bucks to hang out with my friends for the day when all we'll be doing is lapping the park.

you gotta take a hike up cowboy or hit some DD trees man, those runs are worth $50 all by themselves... park aint everything

how bout you just get a stevens pass and not a snoqualmie one? it's not that bad of a drive, i know there's other people at central who do it.

honestly, I grew up at Stevens, always thinking that Snoqualmie sucked, but now that ive made the move I can't really see myself going back, just because Alpental Backcountry is just awesome, I love the 45 minute drive on 90 (btw I know people drive over Blewit but its just plain ridiculous) and I love the fully (and well) lit park and even just going over to Alpy at night to get some tele turns in. Basically, I ski way more at Snoqualmie than I would at stevens and I'm super stoked on all the backcountry I got to ski last year which is gloriously lift accessed. That said, Snoqualmie sucks, it only rains, pretty much dirt on half the runs, lines are horrible and everyone should go to Stevens. or Baker. but Definitely not snoqualmie.

I am one of those from central who trek to Stevens. I got a ton of buddies who get seasons passes with me and we go up there every weekend. Nothing better in the world than a weekend at Stevens and cabin parties in Skykomish.

nothing better than having a 45 minute drive after class to go skiing every day and partying with old people in lot 3 every weekend

hey they wrote back
Good Afternoon Eric, I apologize for the delay in getting back to you. Thanks very much for your email and the positive comments regarding Stevens Pass and the Top Phlight Terrain Park. We are excited to be on the final phase of the implementation of a new RFID Ticketing and Lift Access System. You are correct in thinking that this will allow us to create a broad variety of different access products tailored to the needs of many different customer groups. At this time, our short term goal is to get the basics of the system up and running smoothly with the expectation of a full year of operation under our belt before examining new and more complicated lift access products. There has been some early discussion of a “Brooks Pass” and we will be revisiting this and our other product offerings as we do each spring in preparation for the following winter. Thank you again for your comments and positive outlook for the winter! Have a great day, ++Chris Rudolph

yeah even in february when it was bullet proof i was on the chutes, i raced my friend we got into line at the same time he got right on the lift i waited, like always on sky but i still beat him and talked to guy peter and daniel on park crew for like two or three minutes
