Broken Toe

I broke my forth toe last night (the one next to little toe). It is a transverse fracture. Doc had to reset it. Now it is buddy taped and I plan to keep it absolutely immobile as to not delay healing. ER doc said he thought I wouldnt be skiing for 2 months. That didn't sound right to me. In fact when I raised my eyebrows at that he added "but Im no orthopedic so I could be wrong". Maybe he just said that b/c he didn't want to see a grown man throw a temper tantrum...

Anybody here have a similar toe injury? How long before you were in a ski boot? I figure once I am in the boot the toe wont move...

I broke my toe once didn't go to the doc because it wasn't that bad and even if it was the doc couldn't do much (could also not have been broken butt it felt like it). After 1,5 weaks I started climbing again that means very small shoes and nothing happened, after 4 weaks the toe felt normal again

shattered and shredded my big toe last summer and kinda fucked up that part of the foot where your big toe meets that footpad just below. Its still rigid and stiff as hell but little to no pain doing activities especially skiing. I feel more comfy in my boots than street shoes cuz bending my feet/toes still feels weird and kinda painful if its sore. You should be alright, take it easy for the first few days and dont be airing out anything huge.

That is what I want hear! That is exactly where mine broke, different toe. Hurts like hell, If it were broken more distally (further from foot) I dont think it would hurt nearly as much...

keep stretching legs out and stuff, maybe some chill yoga routines or something, light exercise. my issue was my left leg went like dormant for a few months cuz of surgery and even after PT, it was still pretty tight but stretching and skiing helped it get more loose and gain strength again. Youll be back to crushing in no time dude. Feet can be tricky sometimes haha

Ive broken all my toes except the big ones doing BJJ. Never done anything except the buddy tape thing. Kept right on going no time off.

Just buy full tilts

Oh damn! You just reminded me I got new boots last season. Not Full tilts but similar design (Dalbello Krypton). I was picturing having to squeeze into my old boots. Maybe this will not be so bad!

Yep, this is the first time I knew for sure I had broken my toe. I have had a few of the "it's probably broken" toe injuries. ER doc actually had to reset it this time because it was really crooked. Still Im not waiting 2 months to ski...

How old are you as that has a huge impact on healing times. When I was younger broke most of my toesin combat sports - bit of tape and they were good to go in a few weeks. Couple of years back in dislocated my toe in two places and degloved it a bit at the same time - it was never set back in properly and took around six months to heal, still at at a funny angle. I then re smashed it 3 weeks before a skiing holiday - got really strong pain killers and cried on the ski lift - was definitely worth it though - although I’m not sure I’d recommend it as a treatment plan. It’s fine now

I'm definitely at the age (53) where I'm becoming more concerned about longevity. However, when it comes to skiing I'm still pretty immature. Delayed gratification does not come easy to me...

I broke my pinkie toe kicking it off a radiator and I was on crutches for like 2 weeks and then out for a month but I was fine after that.

I'm 48, good to see the older guys still representing.

Ya broke my pinky toe on my friends ankle playing soccer this summer.

Did the buddy tape, didnt go to the doctor but my "recovery" pretty much mirrored everything said here online. Pretty much couldnt walk for ~2 weeks, then was just stiff for about 4.

TBH I think the biggest problem you'll have is getting into your boots. (I know mine hurt the most whenever I had to flex or "point" my toes, but once you're in the boot everything is pretty locked it and not too much different than walking.

Broken my big toe a couple seasons ago biking. If I remember correctly, I was walking painfully after 2 weeks. By one month I was biking again. But since ski boots suck more than bike shoes, If you can jam your foot in the boot and walk, I think your good to ski

That is kind of what I was thinking. My boots have the separate tongue piece so might not be that bad getting in. I have an appointment with the orthopedic in a couple days. I kind of don't want to ask his opinion... but if he tells me no, I'll find a new doctor. Customer is always right!

I tore the ligament in my big toe about 6 weeks ago, finally could get my foot into a ski boot a few days ago, it feels good because my toe can’t flex like it would in normal shoes
