Broken RAM?

So i jsut bought some new ram today, it works fine, but my computer now randomly crashes about ever 5-10 mins.....i take the new stick of ram out and it works fine again.... is this a coomon thing to happen to ram or whats up? and the stick at leats partcially wokrs ebacsue i loke dta some stuff and it sai dmy computer was using some of it.... but then once inahiwle thigns go bam!!

its a 512mb pc2700 333ddr stick....and i had 2 of them in, whihc is supported by my comp. but the new one is fucked.
 
Are the sticks of RAM from the same maker and of the same type and speed? If not, that is likely your problem. Corsair and Kingston make the best stuff. Matched sticks are best of using more than one chip. Memory causes more strange problems than any other part, in my experiences. Inconsistant random problems usually point to memory....
 
i find that my shit has crashed when they are not by the same maker....but as long as you know they are the same speen, thats good....try to just get some dual sticks or something
 
Yeah, just return it. Its not uncommon to have a stick of RAM be DOA. If the next one acts flakey too, then consider getting 2 sticks of the same brand and speed, just to rule out any problems in that area.
