Broken iPod

So in December of 05, I got a 20 gig 4th generation ipod. For three months, it was fine. Then in March, right before spring break, the click wheel decideds to suddenly stop working, wont do anything. I call the help line at HP, they cant figure it out, have me send it in and a few weeks later i get a new one in the mail. Now once again, this new one worked well, for a little less than a year. Then it wouldnt play anything, all the music was deleted off it, wont connect to the usb port. Once again i contact the support staff. This time it is "sorry, this is an unfixable problem. your warranty was up one year ago. you can recieve a new ipod for 270 dollars.

Gotta love the quality of the product. By the way i keep very good care of it, it is always in a steel protective case.

ive had a mini for like two years, andi think it's starting to fail a little, the jack is kinda fucked maybe

So the USB port isn't working? Are you sure you tried everything they said on their support site? If you did and still nothing is working then you might be SOL...you could try messing around with some of the stuff in diagnostics mode but i dunno if that will work for your situation.

I bought an ipod for $50 to use as an external hard drvie but the battery life sucks and for some reason it won't charge through my computer but every other computer I use it on it does. Piece of crap

my mini randomly decides to reset itself when i push buttons, it works for about ten minutes, then if i push a button it resets... so i call them and they tell me to warentee it. so youre supposed to go online and fill some shit out and they mail you a box. but when i try to put my postal code in, it tells me that my postal code doesnt exist... fuckin apple.

i have a 4th gen 40gb that i got dec 2005. i use it a lot, and in january it started to die a lot. i could reset it and get it to work again, but i would have to fully charge it sometimes. The hard drive would make this horrible clicking noise. Finally, two weeks ago, it would not start up (no hard drive spinup) and gave me the "sad iPod" screen for good. I ordered a new battery from newer technology which i installed today and it works flawlessly. You can get a high-capacity battery for like $25. I highly reccomend it. Installation is tricky, but doable.

i own a 3rd generation 15gig iPod....its been since hmm over 2 years i think 2y 3 or 4 months....

Its working as new......the only thing is the earbuds...i mistreated them and now one is not working...but i dont really care about that.

Mine did the same EXACT thing, pissed me off a ton....so...I did'nt really know what to do and someone advised me to put it in the Freezer...I mean, the Freezer? WTF? And so I put it in the freezer for 2 hours and it works perfectly fine now...

i had a 20 gig 4th gen. for 2 months when it failed one day. i got a new one, and smashed the back in by accident, then i got a new one for 200 repair, and i dropped it and the screen smashed. i went on ipod hiatus for 5 months, and then bought a video + a case, and now im set

i got the ipod mini + extended warrenty and its great but the battery life blows...but if ur good with computers mayb try and buy like broken ipods off ebay and replace the bad parts on yours? just a thought

Can I buy a warranty now? I have a 3rd gen and the warranty expired long ago. I will also buy any broken ipods doesn't matter how old or what model as long as it can connect to a computer and hold a charge. Doesn't matter if the screen is broken or whatever it just needs to work. I'm going to use them to transport video, yes jack I'm talking about you, to other people. I also need a firewire AC adaptor if anyone has one.
