Broken Core?

I just got my brand new Surface Blanks today, and I noticed this. 589000.jpegIs it worth getting them replaced? The crack is only interior, and is only noticeable with the light shining through.

I would call the company and see what they think. I imagine there's a split in the wood core. I don't know if I'd call them broken, but maybe "not passing quality control with stars and rainbows."

It may not be a problem in the long run, but it's definitely worth a phonecall/email to Surface for sure before you mount your bindings.

You paid for a quality product so insure you got one.

its probably just a blem in the wood, surface is great about that sorta stuff, im sure they will hook you up with a new pair.

Bump, because I'm curious what they said they think it is and what they're going to do about it.

Keep us posted.

That's a wild fracture inside of a core if I've ever seen one. If you squeeze the tip at the edges while holding it up to the light does the crack go away?

Regardless get a hold of Surface and get them warrantied. That looks like the wood itself splitting, not where the wood has been laminated. Weird stuff. Keep us updated!

It is actually the wood splitting. And it's a pretty big crack. And it definitely doesn't go away if I squeeze the ski.

if you e-mailed them i would assume they would reply on Monday night. Have you received a email from them confirming that you email was sent. I know most companies will send you and email like that telling your their customer service hours, i don't know about surface though

Solid customer support. I love it when a company can come right on the forums and answer questions; and get shit done.

Mehhh, it take a lot of work to get really dialled in on building a pair of skis. Sounds like Surface is trying to clean up their name and quality a lot over the past few years; and I've never heard of them leaving someone out in the cold with warranty.

Regardless, I wouldn't stop an isolated incident like this stop me from buy a pair of these blanks. $250 for a price-point ski, made by a legit company with a wood core (not cheap foam core crap...) is a steal IMO
