Broken Collarbone.... How do I not break it again?

I went in for a checkup after 2 months and the doc said im done for the season. I snapped it hardcore right in the middle.

Is there anything i could wear while riding to keep me from screwing up the healing and maybe breaking it again?

Maybe the figure-8 brace i wore to help it heal?

you could maybe go see a physio about getting it strapped or something, but that would probably prettymuch immobilise your arm, wearing like downhill biking body armour or something probably wouldn't be any help since your bones already weakened

nah i dont think so

i broke mine a couple summers ago and now it sticks out a lot so beat , probably gona be that way my whole life

After two weeks, u can ride a bike and stuff if you excercise enough. But if you put too much load on it before it heals ok, you develop an extra joint in the bone. This is a bad thing. You want to avoid this at all costs. I skied after 6 weeks, no problem. 2 Months later I was on the couch because of this joint thing.

I would say, exsercise with a fysio and wait 8 weeks untill you ski again.

I broke mine too, but it was 8 weeks ago and i needed surgery 5 weeks ago. It sucks but to keep from breaking it while skiing in the next few weeks just don't ski. In the future there's not a whole lot you can do besides just try not to fall on it.

That sucks man, i would just not do anything on it for a while, same thing happened to my friend who is in Big Sky right now and cant do shit,

You could wear those body armor things that the big mountain skiers wear, but I don't know that that would help.

everytime u fall, just be consciuos of how ur gonna land, if ur gonna land right on ur shoulder/ collarbone stick ur arm out to take the impact. Dont try too hard to avoid falling, just dont let urself fall right on the wrong spot when it happens

its not sumthing you wear, but i have this machine that i use on my broken shoulder (5 weeks) and it uses a really powerful light to help it heal, and it works amazingly

i thought it was gay when my mum told me about it and it made my shoulder heal so fast so my season didnt have to end as early

nah dude it goes back cause your body wears away the bone and you grow a new one in the right place. mine broke and got twisted so the part that sticks straight out stuck straight up, so for a couple years i had it sticking outta my shoulder but now its like the other one

The Emerg. doctor broke my clavicle at the SC joint (combustion fracture) when they were relocating my shoulder last year. I left it alone for about 6 months with the promise a surgeon would look at things when it healed up. Because I healed with full mobility the orthopaedic doctor told me they wouldn't do anything even though the end of my clavicle floats around freely moving in an out of joint about an inch.

Now when I roll over in bed every morning I hear a popping and grinding noise, I was wondering if anyone has had this same kind of injury? How easy is it to re-injury?

maybe go to a physician or ur school trainer and get it taped and learn how to tape it so u can do it on ur own before u ride? i was in wrestling and its unbeleiveable how much taping injuries helps

Today was the first time i rode for 2 months. didnt hurt it at all cuz i didnt fall.

i did however wear my sling for added steez. it prolly reminded me not to be stupid too lol

I broke my collarbone again while wearing that brace, so I wouldn't recommend it. The doctor will look at you like you're an idiot while he fixes it again.

i skied after like 2 weeks, then i fell doing a 270 outta a flat bar and re broke it, then i waited 3 weeks and skied and fell on it and shit was fine but then in the spring park at whis i did a cork 7 and missed the landing of the table cuase it was so pinner and re broke it. but now its fine

oh the point of that was that it dosnt really matter cuase i only had 6 weeks off skiing and the doctor told me 2 months

this is interesting. i broke mine 10 days ago. i am getting mobility back, but i broke it in 2 places so there is a bit floating around in teh middle, its prolly not gonna heal of its own accord, so i might need an op. i want to go up to the park and just chill around, take photos etc., but i can tell i'm gonna hit some ice or some shit on my way there and be out again.

ive broke mine last year and rebroke three more times skiing that same year. one of the times i didnt even fall on it, i knuckeled a jump and the force of my body fucked it up. id just rest it, its defintely worth it because it takes a full year to recover 100% without any kind of rehad really.

i broke mine about about two months ago. decided to hit up the park in steamboat this last weekend and took it real easy, but had a freak fall where my pole jabbed in the snow and yanked my shoulder out... rebreaking my collarbone. Definitely sucks really bad

just take the time to let it heal all the way... it's worth it, now I have this huge bump that's going to be there forever

i broke mine and skied on the last day of the year, which was about 6 weeks out. but i didn't completely snap it. and i just went easy and filmed and stuff and it worked out alright. i think this summer im gonna be skiing too.

I would say just wear a brace and take it easy. When skiing don't try anything to hard that you could screw up on.

i wouldnt ski, the collarbone is such a weird bone that you can hurt it again easilly....

i broke mine like 5 years ago and i still occasionally have problems with it

I'd just let it heal. I broke mine 9 months ago and it still causes me pain if I use it alot, it also pops out of place because I used it before It had 100% healed.

I broke mine about a week ago and had to have a plate in because the break was right next to my sternum, my surgeon said that even though its all held together doesn't mean its super strong, the screws that are used make other parts of your bone weaker and so if you fall you might break it at the screws instead of the middle again...which would suck

unless u broke it hardcore and need like a plate or watever it just heals on its own i broke both of mine and there fine now

I've broken both sides of my collar bone. This was in a 6 month span about 7 years ago and have had absolutely no problem since. Let that thing heal. If you let your bones heal there is going to be extra calcium deposits where the break was, therefore, it is going to be stronger than it was before. The brace isn't going to help you not break it again. The brace was made so you heal correctly. Just take it easy man. Let it heal. If you dont, you will regret it later.
