Broken clavicle

So skiing today I knuckled a jump and crashed big time breking my collar bone. i'm wonderin if anyone else has broken theres and how long it was til they were skiing again. thanks guys

I broke mine twice in the same side in a year. 1st time was during a hockey game around mid/late season. Then I was healthy enough to come back next season to participate in the tryouts and by a weird force of nature, I broke it again. It was completely healed too. Then I was MIA for the 1st half of the season and then I was able to play again for the 2nd half fine.

yo iv broken both my collerbones and give it a week or two then u can go skiing...as long as u have someon like buckle ur boots and cary ur shit and go no poles

i did it and i wore the sling on the outside of my jacket...mad biddies but u gotta go slow and be careful

broke mine in summer so there was no skiing but i was back skating in about 3 so maybe 2-5 weeks depending on how bad you broke it, how well you can recover etc

I broke my clavy on monday. Doc says 2 weeks before the bones start healing because of the gaping gap between them

Did your guys' look like this? Or did u just have like hairline fractures?

wow that's pretty intense, i had a hairline fracture in mine and was back to no contact hockey 3 weeks later, and full contact another 2 weeks after that so i was skiing after 2 weeks, but nothing crazy, no jumps just a few boxes and rails, it hurt though i won't lie, i skied no poles for a little while because i determined that was what was causing my pain issues

Intense man. Im surprised they didnt put screws or pins in there to bring them back together, youd heal MUCH faster. Last week i broke off the top part of my humerus and had to get screws, but your shit is gnar.

i broke my clavicle off the shoulder joint, i was in a sling for 8 weeks. it ended my season..

id say don't try and ski until it's fully healed, because to this day mine still bothers me wicked bad sometimes even though i followed every order. especially with a break like yours, just wait it out man, you've still got time to ski. don't risk it.

haha thats not mine. that was some random kids. mines not that seperated but it did break in two places. I'm only in a sling for aweek to ten days which is bitchin but i've got this crazy brace thing for 6 weeks.

doc said it was ooptional to have orthaepedic surgery to screw it together, its more for cosmetic reasons than anything. or if u need it to heal fast.

i like the snow, but its not my career or anything, im 16, im just letting my gf nurse me back to health. no reason to go under the knife.

amen to that brother. I just woke up from two and a half blissful hours of a vicodin induced coma. and i totally feel ya, I broke my ankle last year and only got to ski once.

the hat issick. people love it whenever i wear it to parties. and its super comfy. but it didn't do too well at protecting my shoulder haha

that, is a terrible break. i broke both of mine and they were similar. it was 6 weeks before i was on snow again?

i broke mine 9 years ago. the break was extremely similar to the pic of the xray in this thread. the doc said it was as close to poking though the skin without actually going through as he had ever seen. it was my senior year of high school and i did it in november. At the hospital they handed me a sling and some tylenol 3s that didnt even touch the pain. i then went to a sports medicine doc and he had me get a clavicle strap. he told me i would probably not be able to ski for the majority of my race season. needless to say i didnt listen to that. the pain subsided after about 1 and a half weeks. However when i would stress it moving my arm quickly or too far the pain was intense. Needless to say taking the occasional gate on the collar bone was none too pleasant either. i did severely hinder my healing with a nasty fall on a jump. All in all i would say it was as healed as it would ever be around march. take into account i was extremely active and doing basically everything the doc told me not to do. Definitely look into getting a clavicle strap though, much better than a sling.

now 9 years later i still deal with pain and a bit of uncomfortableness due to it. if i roll my shoulder it pops and cracks all the way around my shoulder blade and shoulder. my left shoulder (the side i broke) does sit a little lower than the right and the distance between shoulder and neck is somewhat noticeable.

moral of the story this injury does have the possibility of effecting you for the rest of our life, take that into consideration when and if you obey the doctors advice. on a side note i thought it was cool as i kept going back how you could see a cloud form around the ends of the bones as they tried to heal back together.

ahhhh fuck that, i remember having a broken ankle and standing up in the shower on one foot, getting into the shower is the gnarly part

i took 1 vico every 4-5 hrs.... honestly... there aint much of a diff between ibuprofen and vicodin, as long as ur not trying to ski or anything.

i still take one vico every morning to be able to get out of bed

and it helps with the "sleeping flat on back" induced back pain.

god damn broken clavs are a bitchfuck to deal with.

When I broke mine I was back skiing (not jumping or anything but still skiing) around 8 weeks after and 12 weeks to full health...

Ok, bump... Little bit of a rant, yesterday I've heard that I'm getting a plate on my clavicle. My clavicle looks almost the same as the one in the picture, with the difference that it's sticking out a bit higher. Besides that I have a bit of bone with the size of a lego piece in my shoulder, which is of course loose...

My doctor told me that with this plate I might be able to split my clavicle in the length (?), but this plate is going to be removed within half a year. Does anybody know if this plate can be taken away earlier? I forgot to ask my doc but I would really like to know! I fucking hate the shit I'm in at this moment...

Thanks for the help!

Broke mine during the best time of the season, also missed spring skiing.. Stay off it for a good 5 weeks, I went back after 5 weeks and fell, nothing happened.

i broke mine about a month and a half ago and my x ray looked almost identical.

not only did it ruin my lax season but also my soccer season....oh well, at least i have skiing to look forward to.

bump

broke my clavicle few days ago. Any of u guys skied with a broken collarbone before? I'm tempted to ski in a few weeks and stay completely out of park.

i've done it three times. just keep resting it. usually about 6-7 weeks for recovery but once mine took 14... it was a rare case but it still sucked. + vibes

mine was like that but almost twice as far apart. had to get surgery to get them realigned. 3 months

had a fully broken AC joint a few years ago that ended my season. after months of physical therapy i was ready to go the following season

broke mine in the day before thanksgiving, got surgery beginning of december.

doc said i could ski again a week or two ago, but nothing dangerous

i started skiing again like 3 weeks ago just no jumps or rails
