so i thought i broke my brakes summer skiing and i figured i'd just buy a replacement brake but when i took the brakes off i found this

the part on the actual back bindings where you clip the brakes under is broken you can sort of see it in the picture its the little black square on the left side. there's supposed to be a little bar that goes across but it ripped out and the whole bit sort of just got crushed by something

can i just ski with the brakes off or should i put them back on even though they are broken? im just kinda worried because with the brake off there is a gap between the boot and the ski

sorta just floats there...

anybody help me with this?

I had that with my STH 16s. It can be quite the problem, your brakes can kinda pop out, then they will be very out of place. This can cause a problem, the brakes wont pop back up when your ski falls off, resulting in the ski shooting down, injuring millions.

The solution, you'll need a new heel piece. Go tell a shop tech, show him the problem. Many stores have extra pieces like this laying around.

The break plate actually keeps your boot "snugger" into the binding so it actually does play a roll other than holding your brake arms. I would suggest seeing if you would be able to find a new mounting plate at ur shop or online for cheap. If not then i would possibly epoxying the brake plate back onto the mountain plate of the binding and take off the brakes. If ur mountain requires you to have some sort of brakeing device i suggest buying these from your local climbing/outdoor shop

you can get them for super cheap ($3?) and just re attach it to either ur binding if you don't watch it to be attached to you for when u fall.
Kinda shitty situation but hope this helps

ok so i'll check if my local shop will give me cheap mounting plate, if not i'll just epoxy the brake plate back onto that sucker. good idea but no way im using a snowboard leash lol i'd rather ski without brakes its not like anybody will notice lol. besides my brakes stick anyways, they don't pop out when i fall
