BROKEN ANKLE

Hello anyone,

I'm 15 years old and have recently fracture my ankle (Fibula) almost all the way through the bone (15/12/17). No op needed (thank god) so just a cast for 6 weeks (until 26/01/17) when exactly three weeks later I am supposed to be going skiing, undoubtedly I have a lot of questions, please bare in mind

- I play high level rugby (how the injury happened) so I will have three physios as soon as the cast comes off working on me!

- I am trying my hardest to keep it elevated, I don't drink or smoke and I eat healthily!

- I am a competent skier and don't fall over particularly often

- If I go I will obviously been taking it easy, no wild off piste, etc

So my questions:

Is Skiing feesable?

Has anyone else been in my position and been skiing?

If you have skied after a broken ankle do you have any tips for me, things you wish you had brought on your trip, things you did to reduce pain?

Is there anything I should be doing now to increase my chance of going??

Welcome all responses :') and hopefully will be enjoying a light

If you have 3 physios then this should probably be addressed to them. But hey, I'm sure a few people on here have broken legs/ankles. If the bone is healed and some muscle has returned to the leg then maybe it's plausible but 3 weeks is not long for rehab for most injuries...

Sent them an email however I was hoping for some ski specific information as they are all rugby based!

Cheers for such a quick reply

Broke my fibula twice this year, you should be able to walk and bare weight within the month, PT is crucial to skiing again as even if the bone heals, your muscles and nerves are extremely messed up and will be very painful after a few days of skiing. When and if you do ski, dont tail press or do anything that shifts your weight back for atleast a month because as i learned, stupid shit like landing back seat can destroy your whole month with a broken fibula just due to pain.

also your young so your bones will heal almost certainly faster than an adult and very strong just keep doing what the doctor recommends.

It might be too swollen to fit in the boot. Otherwise, of you can run and jump and all that without pain you might be OK. I'm not a doctor.

Walking cast and stationary bike as soon as doctor gives the OK.

Jamming my foot into overlap boots was painful. Good thing I had a pair of 3 piece boots.
