i broke my hand like 10 days ago...im suppose to wait 6 months now to ski.

its just a hand, so i dont figure i can wait.

has anyone risked it before?

think that it could prob handle some small falls n be ok?

I'm sure you could ski, but what you do while skiing could jeopardize it. Break it again and I'm sure there will be surgery involved. I'd just not really ride park, or don't go too big. Say away from rails and boxes for sure, you slip or fall off the side and you could break it easily again reaching for it. Make sure you don't catch an edge skiing switch and put your hands out. Maybe go more towards in-bounds tree skiing. Just don't do anything to big.

fuck what the doc. says, look at LJ, hes been killin it with a cast and it let you ski with no poles with out every one giving you shit................................

i just wouldent go big, like mellow rails and small jumps only, u should still be able to ski, but dont take my word, im just a 16 year old B student

my friend broke his hand skiing in the prime time of winter so would do anything to ski so they had him hold a ski pole while they molded his cast so his hand was in the right position to hold a pole, and then like a month later he got the cast off and broke the other hand ahah,i guess he was havin some bad luck

I broke my thumb when I was 11 and skied with no poles, you'll be fine just don't hit it on anything, you could get the cast fit to your pole but i wouldn't worry about skiing with poles with a broken hand.

i broke my thumb one day. then three weeks later i broke my wrist. had my thumb x-rayed just to make sure cause it still hurt. so they were both broken. i had a half cast on my left and a full up to the bicep cast on my right. i just didnt use any poles and i couldent bend my right arm. i still hit some rails and stuff hah. putting gloves on was a bitch though

oh yeah and if you dont want to use a garbage bag for showering and what not go to tractor supply and buy some A.I gloves they made my life a lot easier

oh yeah and if your fingers are sticking out of the cast you run the risk of completely destroying your fingers

i broke my hand last year, i wore thin little gloves with oven mitts over them all year with no poles.

next year im starting ove-glove- steeze

Pete O. was rocking a cast when I went to High North years ago. He just rocked a ninja sword in his broken hand and slayed it.

I spent two months shredding with pins in my hand. Mainly pow and groomers. Stayed away from park and big airs until the pins and cast were gone.

I broke my scaphoid in my wrist. which takes along time to heal.
I was supposed to have my Fiber glass cast for 2 months. I took it off at 3 weeks and got a plastic zipper cast from the physio. get one for sure. But my wrist is still broken. its been about 5 and half months and almost healed. I had no problem skiing with a cast. still wear my plastic zipper

i skied pretty much all season last year with a cast, few tips:

wear an oversized mittin over it, just work on your basics and get them down on lock, work on more tech stuff instead of big stuff, dont use it to brace your fall (I broke my cast in half)

good luck with it

a kid who i was skiing with got scared in midair on a huge tranny and broke his wrist. 2 weeks later he hit the same jump and did the same thing then broke his collar bone.

It's definitely doable. Last season I broke my wrist falling on an urban the night before opening day at my local hill. I got it casted up and still made it out for opening day and hit the little rails with a pink cast. Casts are pretty solid but at your first, it will hurt when you swing or move your arm. It forced me to ski without poles and to stay really still so it actually improved my style a lot out of necessity. After a few weeks it shouldn't hurt at all in the cast. Good luck dude!

ive broken my hand mostly my thumb skiing so many times i dont even knowi usualy keep skiing when i do it too, just drop the poles for the rest of the day and screw aroundthe only thing is that i have gnarly arthritis in my hand now and my fingers always stiffen up and crack when i move them, im pretty sure im not gonna be able to move my hand once i get hella old

i broke my arm and had surgery january 27th, for the first few days i was in a soft ace bandage type cast rap thing, then once my cut healed they gave me a wrist guard that went up almost to my elbow. i skied february 11th and after that i skied at least 50 more days that season with the brace, my doctor didnt clear me to ski until march.

doctors are dumb, what do they know about healing.

but really just take it sort of easy

oh yeah, typo, its suppose to say 6 weeks, only 4 with a cast.

but yeah thanks for the advice and reassurement, im sure i wont be able to resist opening weekend n some park.

ill just keep it simple n try to get the basics solid
