"bro, why you even riding those if you're not that good"

I bought Vishnu 189 wets this year to try out and learn something new. I love them, ngl, and the feel did help me learn a ton of new stuff this year. The season is over, but I'm just kinda rehashing what was said to me this year throughout the season.

Riding Vishnus came with some baggage I didn't expect. Which I thought was super funny tbh:

"Do you ride for vishnu?" - lmao

"This guys bouta do something crazy" - me, then hitting a rail fs and falling

I tell a kid I'm not that good - "why'd you buy those then" or "bro, why you even riding those if you're not that good"

(there was plenty more funny/interesting shit)

Is this normal? I don't care what they say tbf, but is that really what people think of this brand? Probably not, but yeah just a thought.

It's honestly motivating, I'm going to try even more things like 270 on and then off. swaps, pretz. Just need to find time off work to really grind a day or somethin.

All in all, don't let someone tell you those things. stay positive, have fun, and improve!

I haven't had this happen but maybe its behind my back where I can't hear?

I'm nowhere anywhere close to being "good" It may be because of my gender and age though, who knows.

Although a funny moment from Buck hill the other day. A kid went by me, saw my skis and my Tall T and said something like "Vishnu kid! Nice Tall T and skis Whats your best trick?" We stopped and chatted for a bit and he was a little surprised i wasn't a kid , but yet a grown up beginner haha. He then messaged me later on IG when he made the connection who I was.

I get all positive comments on both my On3ps and my Vs.

I don't care if anyone thinks I'm trying too hard or a poser. They're skis , the tool you happen to choose to use to satisfy the urge to slide with. It too motivates me to work harder to get as good as I can be within my capabilities.

Most people who've talked to me about my skis just asked me about how the skis ride and about their softness. However, now that Vishnus are a lot more common I don't get those kinda questions very often these days

Psh I’m a 34yr old dad of 3 girls on custom pink on3p kartels learning park…. The amount of times I’ve been asked “you sponsored by on3p??”

nah bro watch me slide out on this downrail

And yes at the start of the season I fell on a box and there were several people making fun of me like OH I HAVE VISHNU’S IM SO COOL but now I can 2on and off and cork 3 and swap and all that shit so f them.

I was probably like this at 15, remember how insane high school was? These kids are forced to defend their place in the social pecking order 24/7. They're just carrying that mentality into the broader world and I'd wager the modern social media landscape has made it even worse (I'm not that old but these things change quickly). They'll mellow out eventually.

Nowadays when I see someone with cool skis it's just sick that they have cool skis, couldn't care less about the skill level or whether or not they're a 'poser'.

You do you OP enjoy your hard-earned kit without letting other's projected insecurites get you down ?

Dude you saw that I didn't get a number but I used to work there so I new a guy and he was like "you here for the skim"and I was like yeah but I didn't get here soon enough so I dont have a number and he says "come upstairs with me I might be able to fix that " and he gave me some random dudes number so my name was big Chris lol.

I’ve only shit on someone once because they side hit a 10 foot long flat bar on a pair of wets with slider bindings mounted on em.

You are no poser, you are everything that's dope about skiing and it's so cool you support small ski brands. thanks for showing up to events and being dope and nice and fun to ski with. Don't stop doing what you are doing please and thank you

The ironic part is no one who is actually good at skiing would say shit like that... Kids learn kfeds and think they hard smh

Kids don’t act like that here. Talk shit probably consequence’s so be prepared to back it up.

Aw, Thanks ! Thats what its about! Its folks like you and our other homies that when they're nice and welcoming to the beginners of this sport it makes it enter. I've made friends because of having the same kind of skis. And most people are cool when they see you trying.

Small brands. I'm all for them. In my work industry, besides the government work, I've only worked at small companies. So I know all about how hard they gotta work to get up there with the big brands.

I kind of expected kids to say the same stuff this season as I’m in the same boat, learning park on V’s. My only real interaction was good, another Van Gogh’er hyped to see the same ski. Maybe it’s cuz I look old enough to be his dad + bang his mom

Was at the top of the snowshoe park with my ON3P’s and semi dripped out

kid asks me “what you gonna throw on this?”

I’m like dude I don’t know what you’re expecting here but probably a shitty mute grab and then I’m gonna straight slide that downrail after and land sketchy

Kids from North Carolina on rentals thought I was sponsored because I did a shitty front 2 off the up rail in evo. That’s snowshoe for ya

I got to try a pair at wild mountain. He had the park model and I had my wets so we traded for a couple laps and he decided that he was getting wets and I decided I was getting 1000s lol.

These were the tallest park model you could get (I don't remember what the size is) but my 177 wets were 2in taller.

They felt much more stable in the back and they didn't just flex forward in the front you could flex them and it would pop back up.

My wets are way softer but I liked the stability trade off and the mane thing I liked was that they ACTUALLY TURN wets just kinda chatter over to where you want to go but the 1000s I just tilted my boots and they shot over to the flat down with ease.

i also got some 189 wets this year but never really had any rude comments about them or me being bad at skiing although i’m not very good. i’m sure someone was talking shit though. it always happens and u just have to brush it off

Seriously though im usually just kind of a dick skiing wise to the middle school folk at hyland to signify "don't fuck with me" because I know they're immature fucks. Even if you're not good at skiing you probably hold an age advantage over them which means fuck them kids.

I think it just boils down to kids being idiots. You only have to beat up one of them and the rest will scatter. Should scare them off for at least a couple of weeks.
