Bringing brews into canada across the boarder

From what I have heard beer is super expensive up in cannada. I do not have the money to pay twice the cost for what beer should be. I am 19 so it should be cool coming from the us going into canada right? I have had friends bring alcohol back from other countries into the us just fine. I have also had friends get nailed at the boarder for possession of marijuana ( that kid is no longer allowed in canada possibly for the rest of his life). Not trying to fuck up like that.

You could, but there's usually a limit. Couldn't give you the full details there though. But IMO, I'd prefer drinking some Canadian beer as opposed to some weak pee American beer any day. But then again if it's cheap...

There is a limit on how much beer you can bring in. That's why I lied and said I only had one case, when in reality I had more like 8.

The same beers are like twice the price if not more in bc. I have friends going to college at UBC originally from the us and they complain so much about the prices of beer.

You're going on a trip to canada but can't afford beer?

Are you actually stocking up on something decent you can't get or just bringing a bunch of shit? Also hide it in your butt because you'll get searched and arrested for transporting alcohol over an international border underage and without a permit. ATF will throw you in jail for at least 2 years

I would rather not drop more money than I am already spending. Who doesn't want to save money? Also don't they search your car on the canadian side of the boarder? If I am in canada I think I should be cool. I would not go to jail for a fact if I was to get caught. My friend got caught with a half ounce at the boarder and they deported him no jail time at all. He isn't allowed back to canada and thats the part I don't want.

yeah a 30 pack of light beers in Whistler was over $50 US...ridiculous

we drove back into the states with some beers leftover from a trip in BC and they didn't care or look.

but i wouldn't try bring any alcohol over the border if you are 19...unless travelling with 21 yr olds?

i'd rather spend 20 on a 30 rack of cheap (keystone, etc) beer here, than 20 on a 30 rack of even shittier beer there, or get less beers of the same quality.

op, if you really want to get the best bang for your buck, just bring up a few handles...

pretty sure Canadian beer is like 5% compared to our 3.5% (shitty beers that is)

anyways if your drinking to get drunk Liquor is your best bet OP, then some beer to maintain

5-5.5 for the normal stuff. Then the independent stuff goes up to around 9. But that's that same in the states too

Live in ny been to Canada a lot. They only care about food (not fast food stuff like Fruits and vegetables something about it being grown in the USA they don't want.) but the drinking age in the part of Canada from ny was 18 so as long as you are of age you can bring what ever you want into Canada, just don't try to bring anything back to the USA if you are not 21.

What the fuck you guys actually have 3.5% beer? I drink 7-8% regularly but 5-6 is your standard

It depends what beer you are getting. I have been buying some decent locally brewed IPAs and they have 8% alcohol.

"As I am a Canada Border Service Officer I'm always here to help clear up any questions you might have. Just PM me and I'll be happy to get back to you quickly with correct information.

YES he may bring beer into Canada (or liquor if you prefer) without paying duty of any kind as long as it's within the allowed limits (1 case/bottle/1.5 ltr of wine) and if he's 18 and going into Quebec it's also ok. I hope this helps."

^^I found that on a forum and this is on the bc boarder and customs site. looks like we will be packing a lot of beer.

"Visitors aged 19 years or over may bring in 50 cigars, 200 cigarettes and 200g (7 oz.) of manufactured tobacco. The alcoholic beverage allowance permits the import of 1.14 litres (40 oz) of spirits or wine, or 24 x 355 ml (12 oz) bottles/cans of beer or ale, providing it is to be used for personal consumption. If you bring in more than these quantities, you will have to pay federal duties and provincial fees and taxes when you enter Canada."

^^that was from the bc boarder crossing site so it looks chill.

hit or miss, so dont do it. you can get away with it, but if you get caught, you can be not allowed to enter the country for the rest of your life. not worth the risk imo

"the part of Canada from ny" is called Quebec, I'm disgusted in your ignorance. I know your 50 states, and the ones that border Canada. Canada only has 10 provinces and 3 territories, with what? only 7 of them neighboring to the US..

do not risk that and I mean it. My friend tried to do it and he got arrested in canada coming from the us then they deported him. Right now he cant go to canada and may not be able to go back ever. Its not worth a sack of weed. I personally wouldn't do it.

duty free stores on the border. Last time i went to whistler they had a special of 1.15 Liter bottles of Crown- 2 for $25. We stocked up pretty tuff then drove accross the border, no problem.

I meant to say above ny and I don't know how big Québec is New York State could go over more than one part of Canada for all I know. I've only been to Montréal So why don't you cry about it some more.

im 19 and went to canada this past winter. you'll be fine. they only care about weed.

but if you want to be sure, there's a rule like 1.75 liters liquor, or 30 cans, or whatever that is in wine is the max you're legally allowed to bring over. they didn't even check for alc on the 3 tour buses my group was on but we did get sniffed by a dog for weed

Cannabis on any form of public transportation headed across the boarder is a good way to get caught. I have always wondered would they do something if they found a little crumb of weed. like .01 of a gram. Because my stuff has weed crumbs and I always try and clean them out but it always seems I find more and more bits of shake with in my pack. I have even found crumbs of weed in my bed and I don't even smoke or keep weed near there. I probably shouldn't trip about that though.

Lol. Weak beer. OK. Keep thinking that. I'll get my 24 pack of terminal gravity IPA for 19 bucks. You can enjoy yourself a molson

weird, I wonder how I ended up in Ontario from New York a few times since apparently every part of Canada accessible from NY is Quebec.

CANADIAN BEER IS NOT STRONGER

IN CANADA THE ALCOHOL CONTENT IS MEASURED BY VOLUM IN MILLILITERS. THE US USES ALCOHOL BY WIEGHT USING GRAMS. THIS MAKES THE ALCOHOL PERCENTAGES LOOK LOWER ON US BEERS THAT ARE MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY, WHEN REALLY THEY ARE THE SAME PERCENTAGES.

i believe everything in whistler is ridiculous.

either way, our beer is expensive as shit. at least the alcohol proof is usually higher.

there is a limit though. I think it's around 2L, but dont quote me

this is only true in the case that the beer is marked as say 3.5% "ABW" (alcohol by weight)

most beer in the states (i think, im canadian so idk) is still marked as ABV (alcohol by volume)

someone who lives in the states go check your empties. this is just what ive learned online in the last five minutes.

My friend, who is 19, told border patrol she had one bottle of alcohol she was taking into canada. They didnt care or search her car, or ask where she got it

Just looked and yeah they are marked as ABV, but i'm pretty sure some companies dont mark theirs at all. I know I've looked before and couldn't find it.

Also everyone arguing about the strengths, A budweiser in the US is the same as one in Canada. There is no difference. Also the difference between say a bud light and budweiser is minimal (about .5%), you really don't even notice. They are both shitty, watery beers.

It does. The thing is you can always find beer with high alcohol content. Its not like all the only beers in the us are low alcohol percentages here are so many different beers available in the us and I am sure the same is with canada.

I think most of the confusion comes fome abw and abv because the us has just started to switch over in the passed decade and some places in the us are still use abw. People should check their beers % and and see what it says also name the brand.

Pyramid IPA Thunder Head 6.7% abv

I'm to be perfectly honest I don't give a shit and neither does anyone else. I've never needed to know any names of places of Canada.

I happened to go across the canadian the boarder with 2 grams by accident but it was totally chill. I will say that bringing beer or alcohol back into the us is sketchy as fuck. I got my whole car searched then the guy tried to say the car smelled of cannabis. Which it didn't at all and that ended in more searching, and what do you know they found nothing, because there was nothing ilegal to be found. I think the patrol smelled nothing and just profiled me for a search. He said my car smelled like cigarettes or dope. No one smokes in my car though.
