Bringing Backflips to Snow

I am headed to Lake Louise in the next few days and it looks like there will be a bit of fresh snow and I might try a backflip if I find a nice kicker, I am extremely confident with backflips on trampoline as i've probably done thousands over the years of having a trampoline, i've also done them on flat and off of rope swings and cliffs. So I am very confident with the actual rotation but the one thing I am worried about is the weight of my skis and boots, does the added weight change much? Also poles or no poles for first few tries?

Any insight would be helpful

You are ready, rotation is the same, weight feels a bit different. Be patient on the take off to get a full pop. I'd go no poles at first but its all psychological.

Yeah I think poles would just be more to manage, when I was learning them on flat ground looking straight foward for a little bit right after before the rotation helped to make sure i didn't chuck into it too fast, would you recommend that on skis?

Try and find a kicker that you can go straight into. You dont want to be turning in the in run to the actually jump, so you dont have time to get settled and straight toward the kicker. When i taught people to do it I would tell them to find something in the distance to follow with their eyes so they throw it straight back.

Commitment is key!

Just try to relax and throw it like on the trampoline. Like someone else said have patience and dont pop too early. You will most likely slightly over rotate your first one, but I have a good feeling you will stomp it first try! Go get em dude!

Thanks for the tips, looking at something in the distance helped me learn them on trampoline a while back so ill make sure to do that

POP, then it's all in the hips. you know backflips well, it's going to feel like a gainer with ankle weights on except that it's super natural and easy, the jump wants you to do a backflip

Whatever you do commit. Don't turn into a limp noodle on the takeoff because you will just land on your head. Skip the poles because if you do something weird with your arms you might impale yourself. As long as you commit it is basically impossible to get hurt doing a small backflip into soft snow.

So I finally did it, the video is my third attempt, the first one I didn't rotate enough and second rotated too much

Nice, that kicker looked perfect to learn on. Was this off of summit?

i just sent my first backflip last week and I was in the same situation done on tramps thousands of times and into water a few hundred. as long as you have a strong pop you'll stomp it. i got mine 2nd try first attempt i washout a little and 2nd i stomped it
