BRIMACOMBE -osc-

Hey guys, long time no post.

We've had a very busy year here at Brimacombe..where? BRIMACOMBE the new identity for the Oshawa Ski Club...or as we have been called in the past Kirby. I won't get too much into the details of the rebranding we went through this summer, other than to say that we are, and will remain a NOT FOR PROFIT business owned by it's members....but fully open to the public. All revenue generated here goes back in this facility for our members and guests enjoyment...there is no single owner. If you are interested in learning about our history, or how we came up with the name check out our story on our webpage http://www.brimacombe.ca/story/history

Enough of the sales pitch.

The point of this post is to let you all know that we have once again stepped up our offerings in the word of terrain parks.

New this year is the addition of our Progression Park, a completely new and separate park aimed at our beginner skiers and riders. This park will feature some of our smaller jibs and rails and help to move some of the younger, less experienced crowd out of the main park.

We have implmented a Park pass program this year for our main park, anyone wanting to use this park will be required to complete our program and purchase a park pass for $10....before you say it...the $10 goes directly back into the operations of the park and this program, and we have had a number of requests from YOU, the user, for a program of this type. At least 6 other Ontario resorts (Escarpment clubs) are implementing a park pass program this year as well....we join the likes of Blue Mountain, and Beaver Valley and a few others who already have this requirement. For more information or to get your Brimacombe Park Pass...follow this link. Brimacombe membership is not required, all park passes are good for the entire season. Park passes will be required for our park competitions.

Park passes are proving to provide a better atmosphere in parks where they are required because the people who are in these parks...have the knowledge and etiqutte to make them a better, more fun place to ski and ride.

One of the first things you'll notice here is the absence of our Half pipe...we buried it this summer. For the last few years we have watched and guaged it's use, talked to our park users, and the concensus was....get rid of it! It has opened up a huge area for another line of jibs, rails or jumps.

We're adding a few new features this year too, Our park manager is putting the finishing touches on TWO giant dance floors....they are about 8 feet wide by 16 feet long each.

Oh...and we started making snow today...the seasons coming,

Cheers,

Nice post!

I wish all other resorts would do post like this.

Very excited to check out kirby.. wait osc.. wait Brimacombe haha this year.

wooo! nice post mark. cannot wait to ride this year, and see what you guys do with all the extra space! dare i say jump line?? and the dance floor sounds sooo fun!

Thanks Guys,

As for Flyer.....no doubt it would make the ideal run for a park, but unfortunately it is one of our most popular runs with the entire range of our members and guests. Not only that, it is the transitional run between our east and west sides and overall flow of the resort would be affected.

Dance floors? Two? How about setting one up as a wallride jib but on a more mellow angle (like 60*) :P Sounds good though!

The dance floors are built to be used many ways...including as wall rides if we choose.

Weather permitting, we will open SATURDAY DECEMBER 19th 2009 with limited terrain. Our main park will not be open, but we plan to have a set up in our progression park. No Park passes are required in the progression park.

We have been making snow in our Main Park from day one of snowmaking this season here at the Brim...we will be working hard to get it, and more terrain open as soon as possible.

main park opened today. Looked sick a couple jumps once decent size, and an assload of rails all set up sick. check it out. try to get mark to get some pictures up eventually.

Thanks Adam,

More features to come.

The lack of pipe opens up a ton of room in the upper portion of the park.

Don't forget your park pass.

like he said, yea you do. very easy to get. just head over to http://www.brimacombe.ca/park_pass and follow the steps, then get your waiver signed, hand both your test results and waiver in at the office, and wallah! you get to ride the park. You can also do the test at the hill. The ten bucks is for the pass for the whole year. so you can use it all year long

Hey so im going here for one night with my college, can you get a park pass at night? Ill be going here 4 times throughout the winter at night. If not whats even in the mini park? like any rails?

Hey sorry for the delay on responding, I don't have alot of time to come on here these days.

You can get your Park Pass anytime we are open. Easiest way is to go to the link in my first post and just follow the porgram through to the end, then follow the directions on how to get the actual pass.

If you are under 18 you will need a parent or legal guardian to sign your waiver and then have another person over 18 sign the witness line.

The beginner park has a small jib box (about 6'x18") a small non-forced air jump, and a half barrel jib set up on a wedge...small but all fun.

just a sugestion, i think you guys should set the up box up as a flat box like it has been in previous years

I like that idea as well, after riding the park a couple times I gotta say its got a really fun setup, but the only thing i miss out of it is a true flat box.

is there anything set up that I can actually spin off of? Everything looks like its on a fairly steep downslope. Is there even anything level, let alone upslope?

The first jump you can for sure spin on its set pretty good, the second jump though has a real steep landing so i havent thrown a spin at all off that.

The park has had some changes from these pics...including a rebuild this week.

As for spinning off things...I watch kids spin off stuff all the time in there...

so back to the question that never got answered, is there anything level let alone up sloped? (rails - i thought that was pretty obvious)

almost every rail in the park is spin able pretzable afterbangable. Not sure what the set up is since the change but there was a flat bar at the top easy to spin, butter boxes, c box, long flat box set on a down slope is easy to spin off, and either urban style rail is spinnable. At the end there was a box set up hill

Thanks Adam...

The 16' jib box that was at the bottom...set up as an up box...that you could spin off of, is now at the top set up flat on the roller.

The one flatbar rail is now setup as as up rail on a second roller...you can also spin off this.
