Brighton as of now

it sucks. crappy jibs with well no lips or retarted ones. i am recomending dont go up til its a intense pow day or a comp. just thought i would let you know

Um, that's how brighton ALWAYs is. the park sucks... it's only good sometimes... not often at all. Sorrry if you bought apass there thinking it was actually a decent park.

and comps will be pretty much the same way, usually, they just use whatever they have set up in thier park, and don't actually even try to make it a cool comp setup.

The no lip isn't bad, its the no lip on super flat.....w/ a million snowboarders that is. This is my first season out here so im stoked on brighton but cant wait till PC has jumps.

I like brightons park cause it keeps you guessing and in the long run i think it makes you more consistent overall becuase you never know what you're gonna get and always have to adapt. Perfectly manicured stuff is rad, but theres something to be said for conquering a sketchy set up.

Some set ups aren't even conquerable. Like when they put a soccer goal style box/rail in... with Zero kicker... for a couple weeks. It's frustrating to see a feature you want to hit... but can't... and are disappointed over and over.

And some things just are physically possible... like when they put a kicker right up to the bottom of a rail, so you just run into it.... not enough time/space to pop on. There's a difference between fun and different/creative and Sketchy and dangerous.

don't tell anyone to stop bitching, I rode their along with all of my friends last year, and it was bad all year long.

They are horrible at setting up parks. i don't even know how they could possibly be so bad at it... i mean it doesn't take much commen sense to fix things that they had wrong all year long.

brighton's park just sucks. everything is setup super crappy and is rarely (if ever) maintained. the park crew needs to get on it cause it just appears to be due to laziness. i mean how often in years past did you see the park crew out their actually maintaining the jumps or jibs? 3 ft deep bomb holes after every jib by noon. so gay. i hope they step it up.

They've have done a good job this year of keeping lips maintained asmuch as they can. There is usually always someone from park crew raking. It has to be damn near impossible to keep it nice though with the amount of traffic going through the park right now. I will agree that they suck at setting their park up. They have nice features, but wouldn't know flow and rhythm if it hit them in the face.

i dunno how they've done this year, i've only gone up once. i'm glad to hear there's at least somebody in there doing something. i agree that with the amount of peeps rolling through there it's gonna be impossible to keep em nice with only a few jibs up and 234235134 people. they got some rad features (i wish that were true for their jumps) but ya i never thought about that...their park has zer0 flow.

actually, I lived near mammoth before i lived in SLC> there's twice as many people rolling through that park all day, and at least 5 or siz times as many features, if not more. Brighton's crew is just lazy and bad at buildng. Hell, PC has more stuff and keeps it fresh all day.

If they actually built good lips onto things, and didn;t just use snow they shovel into a pile from the side of runs, it would be a lot better. the snow isn;t compacted at all, so it's not hard enough to stand up to people hitting it. They need to use some water and ice the lips or something.

not to be rude to you or anything, i'm just pointingit out.

I heard its only like 14 bucks or something

I suggest if you haven't gone yet...they haven't even come close to setting up what they have this year, but it isn't too bad as of right now.

Yeah.... Trevor, having more features would keep them good if you think about it. 200 people all hitting the same 10 boxes... versuses 250 people hitting 50 boxes. Less traffic per feature I would think.

And also, I did notice Brighton doesn't let their park features settle. The kickers are all packed powder, and after 10 snowboarders hit it straight on there is a huge rut. They need to start making more things with the cat, and actually till it, rather than use a shovel and call it good.

Like the guy above said, brighton is just raw. PC make perfect shit and is dope and if your worried about rutted take offs and bombed out landings you should probably go there. But all that gnarness at brighton just prepares you for real skiing. When your getting all motocross in a mogul field sometimes you land square on the uphill side of a bump, its not a raked perfectly sloping landing. Sure there's huge ruts and kinked take offs on the kickers, but there's no park type of park jumps i'd rather hit to warm up to huck my carc off a cliff. The park blurs the line between manmade and natural. That shit makes you improvise and thats the beauty of it. Sure sometimes some of the features aren't even hittable for skiers(or so you think until you try a new approach), but there are tons more. Riding brightons park is like a fun, problem solving adventure. If thats not your deal, you don't have to go.

if all you guys are gonna do is bitch about how shitty it is dont go there, its just less people fucking up the lips and making the lines long, its nice how you can go down the whole moutain and hit jumps and rails pretty much the whole way down you cant do that at pc. This season they made some creative shit that im not seeing at PC or anywhere for that matter. the moral is you guys just bitch and talk alot of shit on your keyboards.

no one is talking shit..mr. alias

they are just stating the obvious. I personally love brighton, but as said before by trever, they need to use something to make there jumps and lips more stable. they get eaten to shit

but I still love the place

oh yeah, once again. no one is talking shit..especially behind there key boards. they will all tell you the same thing on the mountain. or anywhere for that matter.

that wasnt directed at your comments, it was directed at Twoods and Grillman. Saying how bad brightons park crew and the way they set it up is talking shit. sure the park crew is kinda lazy but why sit on here and talk shit. if you have a problem bring it up with the park director.

I know it wasn't directed at me. but what they said were also how I felt.

and I see no idea how that is talking shit...they are saying it how it is.

some one please pitch in on this.

personally I think blaow has some homoerotic feelings towards brighton and the men that work their. Everyone is just stating facts about how brighton is and how it has been in the past from their experiences. It's not really talking shit if most people agree that they do a lazy job at maintaining their park.

just about everyone here has skied brighton. a mountains a mountain. brighton lets their park go. its a fact. park city doenst have snowbird or alta quality big mountain stuff. its a fact. you dont see anyone that rides there shittin a brick about it. noob.

A bunch of boxes with no lips is my best guess. A bunch of snowboarders were at PC today, i think it was because PC set up a box without a lip and the boarders thought that they were at brighton.

i'm with alex on this. dood, we all right brighton. i have a seasons there this year and i had one last year. we're just saying that their park is horribly maintained and the park crew needs to step it up. they got a lot of cool features but they would be a lot more fun if they were hitable all day. also if they actually had maintained lips up to them they could be hit from all angles, buttered up to, etc. i don't understand how a better maintained park is a bad thing. one guy raking is a step but how many park crew are getting paid everyday and how many of them are up there keeping things nice? it really is pathetic how little TLC the park gets throughout the day. urine.

ya i still love brighton, i am just saying it has gone way downhill. do you remember when my o my 2 years a go had that fun jump line, last year it was set up in late march.

No, there was talk of putting a Burton "Stash Run" like they have at Northstar on Milly.  But that will be 08-09 or maybe never.

brighton is too lazy to do anything. they will never contact burton or northstar. and BURTON DOES NOT DESIGN PARKS!!!!!! that rumor is bull shit

Yeah... I've called Jareds cell phone about 10 times... I left a message two or three of those times. I've never received a call back. Sent him a message on myspace, received a half ass one back... never answered any of my questions or anything. If I see him, I'll tell him that he represents a company, and that he should treat customers and local shredders with some respect, and not leave them hanging.... so, in the end, I don't want to even try to communicate with Brighton ever again. Everyone I've tried to talk to from there, about several different things has treated me like shit, or not even replyed to my simple questions.

And saying I don't like the way they set things up, and that they do a bad job maintaining isn't really talking shit. If no one ever gave feedback things would get pretty boring, and not much would progress in the ways of park design.

And Baker... I ski park to ski park. I don't slide rails to make me a better skier when i'm skiing bumps, pow or cliffs. I don't see much correlation between sliding a box and skiing powder... therefore I prefer for the features I hit to have decent set ups. The run down to the park, and in the woods linking the two parks will prepare me for any other kind of shredding.

Not only decent set ups, but safe set ups. I don't want to worry about coming off a box and blowing my knee in a WWI sized trench. I've been skiing park for awhile, so I can kind of pick out an unsafe feature. Little Bobby on vacation from Texas rolls up to a box, not knowing the kicker is 3 inches away from the feature and breaks his legs in half.... Or, maybe he's a badass and makes it to the end of the box and decides he's going to do his first 270 out. He only makes 180 of the spin and lands in a rut, sideways, and there goes his knees.

I'm not trying to talk shit on anything, or make Brighton look bad. I know if I don't like it, then I don't have to ski there.... I just think it's a shame that they have so much space, two lifts that service a park, 100 rails, and 500 inches of snowfall a year and they don't put in the hours to make it one of the best parks in the country. It's a lot of money to maintain a good park, but for how many snowboarders I've seen ride that park, and for how many people ski there each year, there's no reason that it can't happen.

Ok dude, have fun hitting rutted out shit and bombed out landings. Like rich says, i am the same. I don't ski park for gnarlyness, i like nice set ups not shit like brighton. Like someone said before, they are just a bunch of lazy snowboards there. Now, thats chill whatever, just less people are going to ride there. Brighton needs to just get a new park crew and maybe consider getting some skier park guys so their set ups are pro snowboarders. I mean 1/2 of their boxes have a jump that is way too small for it, all of their hand rails have no jumps (which is actually fun but it gets annoying).

As for your saying brightons park prepares you for real skiing, thats the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. If you really want to prepare for skiing then go ski some of brightons real terrain or alta/snowbird. Brighton needs to realize they would get soooo much more business if their park didn't suck. I bet if they had a legit park like park city, they would get so many more skiers and more boarders because their pass i believe is cheaper than PC? Im not exactly sure.

Now I'm not trying to talk down brighton. its a dope resort and i enjoyed skiing their when I have. but they just need to get their shit in gear and actually maintain a park and make a good one. I would buy a night pass or something if they had a legit park because night skiing is so much fun, but i feel i will never go this year just because their park is worthless.

Look, i have a pc pass too, in no way am i denying that a perfectly mantained park is ideal. I worked on a park crew in highschool (school credit for park laps, booya), for a place that has a pretty legit park and a legit halfpipe. I know what goes into a real park. But i view PC's park and Brighton's park as having different purposes. I view PC's park as a real "big-boys" park, and some of the features have serious consequences if you fuck up. So it think it's lame when they don't keep their shit in order.

Brighton is a different story though, it's just not that serious. None of the jumps are that big, none of the rails are that burly and you're never really ever going that fast. It's just a fun little playground. It's nice when the keep their stuff in order, especially if im having a lazy day, but i'm not gonna sweat it if shit gets a little haggard.

This is where i use the bad conditions to make me better, because it's not seriously dangerous (all skiing is kinda dangerous). It helps to get kicked wierd off a lip, and have to make impromptu adjustments in the air. Same with getting on rail. By getting fucked with it you more become versatile in the long run. I wasn't the best at rails until i got exposed brighton's sketchy no lip, jump on rails, and now i'd say i can hold my own alright.

But i still find in hard to believe ski park just to ski park and it in no way relates to other types of skiing. That's why you came out west right? to shred the real mountains and get some of the tasty pow, the same reason i stayed in the west for college. You came for the midwest with some nasty park skills and those are what are allowing you be a ripper out here. Skiing is skiing, any form makes you better at the others. As far as tricks go, theres a natural progression from learning shit on a park jump, then to a built kicker, then to just doing it off whatever. Each one adds a little more unpredictability to the equation, and so i think its beneficial, for practice at least, to have to compensate for a little gnar on park jump so im better equiped elsewhere on the mountain when i wanna throw down.

I'm not trying to argue with any you. I know you guys got kind of a raw deal from the spraypaint thing and thats unfortunate, but its over with. I'm not even saying you should like brighton, it's not the greatest place ever. I'm just letting you know why i think it's a fun place to ride. You guys all seem like chill dudes we should shred at pc sometime.

-Josh Rainey

Baker, you're entitled to do whatever you want but if you like a nice park then why even buy a brighton pass? getting kicked off of a shitty lip isn't going to make you a better skier and hitting a rail with no jump is not going to make you a better rail skier. Brighton = waste of money and time. Park city has plenty of beginner and learning jumps/boxes/rail that are not only set up safer than brighton but set up in a much better way than brighton. Saying you're safer at brighton than at pc is completely incorrect, period.

sorry brohas that rumor is true. there was talk of having some natural-type features put in by burton. sorry brohas. check yourself.

ok HERE'S THE BOTTOM LINE and i think most (except the total weener guys) will agree......BRIGHTON'S PARK NEEDS SOME SERIOUS IMPROVEMENT!!! It's that simple. I don't care what your riding style is, if you wanna be forced to get creative or whatever, or if you don't mind hollering at the chinese when you drop into the depths at the end of a box/rail (or the landing on the tables for that matter) it really doesn't matter. The park crew actively maintaining whatever sized jumps they have and whatever jibs they have set up is a good thing. It's what needs to happen. the more people that wanna speak up and give the park director or anyone else the better. i believe the chinese said it best "the squeaky wheel gets oil wamp wamp whatidew whatidew." the end.

nah you are a fucking douche because you cant get over the fact that brighton is the best all around place to go around here.

grillman- respect on trying to talk to the park director and shit thats fucking lame that he was an asshole about it.
