Bridger Cliffs Named

I have always wondered what some people call the hits at Bridger. Drop notes on these cliffs:

Kenny Killer: above avalanche gultch skiers right off ridge.

DRCS: Cliff band in north bowl accessed off cat track following bronco. Best launch is out of woods.

Superman: In south Bowl, outcropping of trees and rock come in skiers right of island; little superman is cliffs to skiers left out of island.

Field Goal: Coming down the O's off ridge before bridger gully, comeout over trees.

Diving Board: Second Finger, nough said

Sphire: Kinda foggy on this one, think I may have dropped but not sure?

Please elaborate and add on to list!

Angel's flight-right under the lift on Flippers

Angry Chair-Drop off the rock into the 4th finger

Papa Bear-Kind of self-explanatory

How do you approach "JK"?, sounds dope. And where is "papa bear" the biggest? Heard of one called "brush nuts" one south boundary, anybody ever heard of that one?

Head out the north bowl road and take the traverse that cuts up above the corner. After you get past the first main run you should be above a good-sized cliff with a few different takeoffs and a badly placed group of trees down the landing a little ways. If you want to claim Papa Bear, you have to hit the uppermost takeoff, it's huge.

You ski past lower avi and keep going over like you are heading to south bowl. Its a giant bush and you hit it kind of sideways. I'm not really sure how to describe it. My ski coaches showed it to me last year.

3 bears, above the road traverse from alpine to bridger, acsess from the north bowl and traverse into the woods, its about 65 feet.

you guys should post some pics of the cliffs to give people a better understanding of where they are and their size.

I have one of DRCS posted in the big mountain section, it may be a ways down now. Can't help you on any of the others though, I suppose I could go take pictures this weekend, but it'd be pretty lame to just post pictures of cliffs with nobody hitting them(conditions will be crap this weekend).

^yea i guess thats true. and i saw your pic of drcs...this past week was my first time at bridger,i fuckin loved it. didnt really get to drop any of the cliffs mentioned tho.

When i was a frosh at MSU in 2002 my extreme skiing instructor (awesome class worth a credit and fun on ridge) told us that above ava gultch the whole face from the top is called Kenny Killer, because a Bozeman HS teahers son tried to drop it in like 1997 and died (got buried?) If papa bear is 60 then Kenny K is like 85. You drop the whole way down to right above traverse across gultch onto high T.

It is the backdrop for ava gultch.

I remember someone dying about ten years ago...One kid died from blunt trauma...might have been Kenny?

That must have been it, blunt force, ouch! Well it is big enough to kill someone. Papa bear is like 45 at most, measured it yesterday, looks bigger though. Best cliff for 360s ever.

it is pretty huge but it is a fuckin rush, you probably don't want to hit it when there isn't some sort of small jump off of it though. or you're not gonna clear it. I would say JK is maybe a 25 foot drop except it shoots you way up and way out, I can say it shot me out around fifty feet, thats because my bombhole was there from eating shit, its super fun

no vids of threes, just mean shin splints. I built a lip off papa bear hoping to use it in freeride comp last weekend but don't have balls to throw three off papa in comp.Where is Jk, can't find that shit. I skied down from high t, and over from ava gultch to south bowl, anybody got more direction. I must be blind.

yeah papa bear is good for spinning, even tho the landing is so flat you can't land smoothly. Papa bear isn't the biggest. Theres a clifff off the ridge that you can drop about 95 ft over the south bowl. Has a WAY better landing then papa bear too.

yeah, I noticed that papa's landing ends very quickly. Where above S.bowl is this monster, I am scared of it if it is what i think, where you have to go big blind before the actual drop. Peace Cody, Piste-off is done for year, next season for sure.

its to the skiiers left near the sabre slash. and no worries about the mag stuff. I destroyed my skiis anyway and have nothing to ride righ tnow/

I didn't know there was a takeoff on the left, I'll have to go look at that sometime. I know Angry Chair is on the skier's right, maybe that's around 70? Either way, both of those are a bit out of my cliff limit, I really need to grow some balls and start jumping bigger stuff though. Hopefully next year I'll break the 50' foot mark, that's my goal.

How did the skis go down? angry chair makes my balls shrink up and hide, scary ass cliff, no jumping that shit for me. Went to what I think is takeoff and was like fuck this. I'm looking for new skis too, what do guys think of Mothership flites, I hear they blow but I liked them.

I dunno about the flites but I just ate it hard and ripped a binding in half and snapped all the center pieces, and ripped out my tip on my ski. Buut I went to PHD the other day and they hooked me up so I am golden now. Time to rock some SUMOS

I've started going to Ph.D waaaayyyy too much lately. I just got some money for graduation/18th birthday that was going to go toward a Vanilla RLC fork for my bike, but now I might end up spending it on some Legend Pro's thanks to that shop. Damn them and their beautiful ski selection!

But back to the cliffs, I saw a guy on teles jump angry chair earlier this year, it was amazing. He had a TON of airtime, he ended up landing right on his back. There are some crazy tele skiers up at Bridger!

Yea I know of one teler that hit angry chair that lives in Roskie. My best ski homie who RA's there knows the kid. I gave him a ride home one day and he didn't say much of it. I actually think he has hit it twice this year.

Good point, but I think we're talking about the same guy, I think this guy was in college. Someday I will be as much of a badass as he is.....someday.

Yea I'm pretty sure we are talking about the same guy.

Anyway I was looking at Stepping Up the new book that is a guide to the Ridge and it talks about Widow Maker a cliff that looks like it is off the traverse between Bridger Gully and the Apron and the landing flushes you into the Apron. Anyone hit this before?

I think I know what you're talking about, it is literally jumping off the traverse if this is the cliff. I've wanted to jump that for a couple years now but I've never had the chance because of either conditions or the fact that I almost never take that traverse. It'd be a pretty nice air though!

I was traversing with a group last week and a friend of mine fell back off the traverse on his board and onto those rocks right below the traverse, above what I think is widowmaker, fucking scary, Aspen extreme moment. That cliff is huge.

So I "found" a new cliff for this season, it should be pretty fun. The landing's a bit flat but it should still be good to do some huckin'.

Should be 25-40' depending on how fast you hit it and how much snow there is. It's in the group of trees skier's right of papa bear.

It goes right into papa bear just above the road. If you take the traverse from the north bowl road over to the part facing toward alpine it will be directly below you.

weirdest thing, so me and the Runia boys hike dup bridger and took a 100 ft tape with us and measured papa bear from between the trees and the tape wasn't even close to reaching the bottom. Not even kidding.

Holy shit! I know it will fill in with snow to some extent in the winter, but that means it still has to be at least 70'!

I thought that I should clear up some overstatements here..

Papa Bear: 35-40 feet

Angry chair: 45 maybeee 55 max

Kenny Killer AKA Never Never Land: 20 min 40 or 60 as you move to the bigger parts.

JK : 20 feet, but its got a lip and with speed you can go as big as you want.

even these are probably overstatements

There's a ridiculous number of unnamed 10-30' hits on Bridger Gully and the O's too, although the vast majority are in the 10-20' range. There's quite a few ways you can link up 3-4 hits in one run, too.

There's also quite a few hits off of D-Route of varying sizes and sketchiness. Jumping into the lower part of Job 3 is always fun when there's snow, nobody seems to sack up and do it.

Speakerbox is just below the NW Passage/ B Gully traverse just to the left of the Stupor Couloir drop-in. There's almost always a really nice lip on it, and it can be hit from 15-25'. Don't even bother hitting it though, I did the sickest cossack in the history of mankind off it last year. Top that.
