Yesterday (9/4), a fire started on the Bridger mountains in Bozeman, Montana. The fire has seemed to spread over to Bridger Bowl ski area. If anyone has updates, comment them.

Don't think it has reached Bridger but not much has been said about the fire. The fire department said its headed away from Bridger and judging by the smoke its pretty far from it. Hopefully it will stay that way.

Jeez that looks terrible, these fires are really getting out of hand lately. Anyone who lives out west, is this an especially dry year or something? I feel like I've been hearing about more fires than usual. Maybe they're just reported more, but either way I couldn't imagine having all my stuff burn and be destroyed in a matter of minuets.

Yeah spent most of yesterday sipping beers on my front lawn and watching the fire spread with some buddies. crazy how out of control it got in such a short time

Yes. At least the Southwest has been super dry and had a bunch of fires in multiple states lately.

Facts. But it does seem like this summer was particularly bad. Hardly any rain

For sure, basically every day in Utah is a red flag warning, its pretty bad this year for sure, we're getting lucky in utah so far but we probably won't see significant moisture until October at least.

In Montana it really got us because we had such consistent moisture all throughout last summer and fall, it rained almost every afternoon and vegetation grew like crazy. Then we had a really wet/warm spring this year and it dried up, all adds up. A family friend of mine had their house missed by 200 yards... Could still come back

i know over 50 homes were burned over. you can check out nifc.gov for the sit report to get acreage and other information, wildcad is also a good resource

bruh this is literally climate change. warmer on average but more frequent extreme climate events, including cold storms.

If climate change means it is 2 degrees warmer than average and we have cold storms I don't know if we have much to worry about.

well u got no idea what 2 degrees means to literally every single ecosystem on earth. skiing's gonna be gone in 50 years.

You can find threads on NS saying skiing will be gone by 2020 if you look hard enough lmao

"SOME KIDS ON NEWSCHOOLERS POSTED WRONG INFO. ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE YEARS AGO, THEREFOR CLIMATE CHANGE DOESN'T EXIST!"

Awesome logic, brah.

Cut him some slack dude, many kids aren’t able to think big picture or long term.

not like any of us will actually be laughing when skiing is gone anyways...

UPDATE: sheriff reported that Bridger bowl was safe yesterday, and today it is raining hard with a temperature of 41 degrees. I hope this rain puts the fire out or stops the spread

Damn i was just hiking around there last week. Checked out the ski area for the first rime. Place looks awesome. Hopefully the fires csn be contained. It's a bad year everywhere it seems for fire.

was reading the rain and snow isn't going to put it out. its definitely going to slow it down and let them dig in and try to get it under control... might flare up again hard tho in the next few days when it gets hot and windy again. just hoping they can get some good containment while they can.

They closed all access to hiking etc. in the Bridger’s till it’s wrapped up, the snow slowed it a lot but there’s still work to do.

Been hearing it went opposite of Bridger bowl and hopped the canyon road to the other side. Hopefully rain and snow will make it chill out for a bit but it’s gonna be a bitch getting this thing fully under control

Global Warming? I dunno it was pretty cold out today!

Global warming really means climate change, dry places will get dryer, cold places will get colder and unlivable. Weather systems gets more extreme, destructive, and irregular.

Does this mean more or less pow days

Yes and no, some winters could be insanely snowy and cold, other winters could be dry and warm. Mainly means nothing goes in a cycle anymore, snow in September, 60 degrees in January, overall it leads to inconsistency and the eventual decline of what we love to do.

the internet has literally become a propaganda echo chamber. you don't have to listen to anything you don't want to. anything that you don't want to hear is just fake news. its called confirmation bias. I think the situation has gotten even worse with covid as well. talking to people in person you have to have a level of decorum and you have to face real time discussion. the idea of debate is completely lost on an age of internet politics. then again who am I to judge I'm literally complaining to all my internet friends on a silly website where salty 20 somethings get in yo mama fights about a privileged sport lol
