Brent Newton, my brother, my friend, died yesterday at Jackson Hole. Jumped off Insominia rock, something we would do on any given day, and didn't make it out to tell the tale. He left a wife and 2 wonderful kids behind, as well as a whole bunch of friends in ski towns all over the U S. He made me quit college and move up to the mountains to ski moguls way back in the day. Please snort a shot of tequllia to pay hommage to this wonderful, one of a kind person

 
dang, that is horrible, it seems this year is really bad. just today on my way home i saw two cars rolled over in a ditch, and this, along with countless other deaths around the country. i feel sorry for everyone involved. your brother sounds like he was a cool guy, that is really sad.

Brent was my ski idol and a good friend.

Not only was he the most positive energy force in the valley, always smiling, laughing and living large, he was also an amazing father and husband.

He ripped lines and hucked drops that I can only dream of.

He always inspired me to turn it up a notch, and push my own envelope.

I always looked forward to our tours together. He always had some new route that he carefully planned and studied and wanted to hit.

Despite his thrill seeking nature, he was an ideal backcountry companion. He respected the mountains and the snowpack, and was prepared to alter plans and routes when conditions weren't right.

Insomnia was a drop that he has done many times before, and unfortunately something went wrong this time. I wish he hadn't done it, but then he wouldn't have been true to himself. Newt was just being Newt, and that is what we all loved about him.

The great tragedy here are the survivors. Not only did he leave his mark on hundreds, if not thousands of skiers, he left behind a great and loving family.

Brent's lovely wife Cheryl now has the burden of raising their two beautiful sons, one two and a half years old and the other two months.

In that regard, there will be a fundraiser at the Moose on Saturday. Anything you can donate will be appreciated. Newt was a skier and a fireman and not a banker, so we are really trying to take care of his two boys, now that he cannot be there for them.

If you cannot attend, PM me and I will send you information on how to contribute, or I can post the details later.

Even if you did not know him personally, you may remember that happy laughing smile from the tramdock or his uniquely original 'Tweakers' sunglasses.

You may remember him making gondola laps with his oldest son in his backpack.

You may remember his outstanding skiing, pushing the limits in bounds and in the backcountry.

Remember him fondly.

Love life, live large, and ski large in his memory and in his honor.

He would want it that way.

Rest in Peace, brother Newt, you have left a huge hole in my heart, but I am all the richer for having known you.''

He hucked it, dropped like 80 feet. I think he got knocked out and suffocated, but im not sure. It was pretty eary looking at his bombhole. Its such a bummer. If you've ever been to JH, insomnia's in the expert chutes.

This just goes to show how dangers this sport really is.. Man that is so sad tho... U can never be to carefull.... And i thought Lars Veen had it bad... Well i guess he does... But nobody should Die when they are young its not fair.... How old was he??.... I'm sorry for ur loss.... RIP

RIP man, it sucks when anyone does and I know what you and your friends are going through...but still it could be a learning experience. Im curious what happened to him, just so I can double check before I drop my next cliff...

 
Wow that really sucks, is that something that happens commonly to people dropping big cliffs or was it more likley due to his age?
