i wold like to know some basic differences between breck and winterpark

there parks do not matter to me because i only get to ski a real mountain 5 days a year so i spend my time in the trees and bowls

thanks for the help

wp=great moguls on pow days, but not the best bc stuff

breck=some of the shute on the back are fun but not great

neither are the best if you want back country, but if you like moguls go to wp

and both are very expensive and if you really want good backcountry go to crested butte or durango or anywhere down south

I dont ski BC

but thanks for the info, price is not a problem Im going with a group of 40 so its like 500 for 5 days, super sick deal

i havent skied at winterpark but breck is amazing if you know where to go and if you arent a pussy. most people on here will probably tell you that its too windy at breck but if you know where to find the stashes and can deal with wind, breck is a shit ton of fun. not to mention the sick parks all over the mountain. you can take a run through powder and bumps into a groomer and into a park. thats all just in one run.

winter park sucks for everything but moguls. breck is mediochre at everything but park (which it is arguably the best at). take your pick, and if you ski any park, freeway is worth a few runs at least. if i were you i'd go to utah, since it sounds like you want some good skiing.

yeah i went to breck last year it was the best 5 days of my life

the burn, ore bucket, imperial bowel, and y-chute were my favorite runs

i know this doesnt make me an expert but im defiantly not a pussy

thanks for the input dude

i think your slightly biased or dont know where to go, there are tons of great parts on the mtn of winterpark to ski. winter parks rails are dope man super solid and always smooth without ruts in the landings etc. The jumps arent that big unless you get access to dark territory. But still fun safe and poppy. There pipe is prime! And its a super fun mountain if your still learning alot, greath for progression. Yes the moguls are prime there but so are the trees, with some safety, and common sense you can ski some closed off trees w/ good snow if you are wise. and even in bounds there is tons of fun terrain. there are some sick cliffed out areas over on Mary Jane, mushrooms in trees, etc.

Breck is fun, excellent park, decent all mtn skiing

I would go to wp though, i like the vibe and the chiller town atmosphere more though.

im slightly biased against summit county too for non-park skiing if you haven't noticed. i just think there is way too much hype for something that's not really there. he could do berthoud though, then get some good skiing in.

word, winter park has some really sick big mountain stuff, great pillows, cliffs and whatnot. also winterpark usually has good snow

oh, if you want big mountain ski mary jane, definatly stay away from the winter park part of the mountain unless your skkiing park

actually. go to winter park, don't crowd up where im skiing. though i don't think you have any idea what "big mountain" is if you are saying winterpark/jane has it.

i hate how far away the park at winterpark is from the bumps and steeps. most resorts or like that but i wish just one would have a park near the bumps and steeps so i could do both in the same run

I definitely prefer Winter Park to Breck. I think the reason WP appears tame at first is that the best stuff is not on the map. And it should be kept that way, because thats what keeps it fresh. As an avid tree and steeps skier, no matter what the conditions are or how busy it is, I can find amazing terrain. And yes, most of it is one the Jane side.

I think the cirque is one of WP's greatest assets. It's work for inbound terrain, but that keeps some great lines fresh days after a storm. And, as a filmer, I've shot some lines that people swear were in the BC, but were actually tucked away in the cirque.

Bottom line, find a local covered in pow with the biggest shit-eating grin on his face, convince him to show you the goods and you'll see Colorado, not just WP, in a whole new light.

this dude knows what he is talking about.

Breck is so incredibly overrated in my experience. Everytime I go there, unless i am hitting their park, I don't have that much fun. In fact, I get pissed at how gay it is with gapers and crowds everywhere, and terrain that I always think is going to be better than it is. Yes, i am not as familiar with Breck as other mtns in Colorado, especially WP/MJ however, I feel strongly that their terrain is incredibly overrated.

Mary Jane on the other hand... I grew up skiing this place. I used to love skiing bumps and can honestly say Mary Janes are the best. Nowadays I don't care so much for bumps, which is fine because MaryJane has some of the best trees I have ever skied! Such good trees... It is completely possible to ski from the very very top of Mary Jane to the base without leaving the trees, good stuff! So many hidden and good tree spots that I won't reveal but if you spend some time exploring (MJ/WP really isn't that big) you can find some epic lines. I have only skiied the cirque or whatever that thing on the backside is once, but it was pretty legit and seems like there is some good terrain back there to explore.

fuck yeah!

and breck is good, you just have to know where to go like a kid up a ways said. the double blacks off of peak 10 are prime. really all of peak 10 is, plus cj's is over there. if you know what that is.

i would also like to say that though it is a groomer, spruce has dank rollers.

If you are'nt into park go to winter park for sure, i found some stuff in the cirque that was really fun. Had to hike but there are some really nice cliffs and trees. Breck sucks ass for everything except park, even peak 10 chris and you know it, take some Berthoud laps if you are going to WP though

breck is sick for park. winter park is good for mougls. but if your looking for real skiing dont go to either of those and just go to crested butte, snowbird, Alta, Squaw, silverton, END OF STORY

go to breck because it is so much funnier....if good snow go to ore bucket on peak 7...its som much fun...also snow white and lake shutes are some great runs(if open)....winter suks cause its just retarded....elan and the back nine are pretty sick too...go to breck..the park is way better too...and dont even disagree that brecks pipe is sick

useful thread. my friends and i are making this same decision right now. we're from Toronto.

leaning towards breckenridge.

i've never been to winterpark, but if you're going to summit looking for the best skiing i'd go to vail, beaver creek, or even a-basin.

I have not been to breck, but i thought Wp was pretty legit. Got a ton of powder the day before we skied and it was awesome. Alot of mogul runs if you like that. Plus there were some sick tree runs
