Breaking poles

ok, i'm probably going to get a lot of hate from this thread, but i'm writting it anyways.

so the whole no poles trend going on right now, I bet a bunch of you are all like "no poles rules, why the hell did we ever use them in the first place?" Well, I have one question for you:

Have you ever broken a pole while skiing? The fact that you break poles shows that you actually use them and need them. Unless of course you enjoy falling and haveing bad technique.

and remember, poles are free - just take them from your friendly rental shop.

hey artard, just because you break poles doesn't mean you need them, or even use them (properly). they are used for balance and stability in moguls, timing your turns, and pushing on the flats. think about it, do you do any of this if you are just skiing park? people will have different answers to this and thats the same with people having different views on no-poles

ive fallen for the no poles thing. When its such a huge discussion topic i wanted to try it so i can understand both sides of the argument. I rode a day of it, liked it, and then just kept doing it. I used poles last night too. So I'm still undecided on what to think about this issue.

the only draw back i see is if you are skiing park with out poles and you learn a bunch of grabs then you one day are skiing with poles you will have to relearn the grabs you once had down so i guess it is all up to you just my take im not saying it isnt fun but just might not be helpfull to you skiing in the long run

i use poles... but the ones i have broken in the past were from falling on them...... im not sure that constitutes a great use.

the only time i have ever broken poles is from breaking because i was pissed and hit it against a tree or rail... so actually poles are useless... for me anyways.

dude that makes now sense. I've broken three poles. Once was when me and my friend were ski-tramping together and he landing on my pole and snapped it. the other two were from falling on the poles when wiping out, so not only did that not show that I needed them, it actually would've made my crash much less painful if I didn't have them. that was probably the worst arguement for poles ever. If you actually break your poles using them, meaning doing a pole plant or skating or something, then you are a beast and need to lay off the steroids.

Once I was skiing switch and I let my pole drop too far and the tip caught in the snow and the handle slammed into my ass cheek and the composit part shattered.

i break a pole every year, till i discovered some old poles in the basement that are made of solid steel, havent broken them in 3 years
