wait, so they actually had warren miller speak or did they cut it from miller's movies and put it in...if so that is wrong, but i thought warren was supposed t be at boulder, co tomorrow night at the showing anyway... im confused!

He did personal original voice over for the level 1 film, WMEG just does not like the fact that they are using Warren Miller, which seems to be a bit rediculous.
 
And before you flame, I mean intelligent, well structured comments, not the usual NS crap. I'm sorry for not being clear, I now realize I cannot assume that NS will take the mature interpretation of what I said.
 
although I agree with your comments, this last statement does not coincide with your argument. You are trying to induce fear to support your claim rather than use convincing evidence to persuade the members of newschoolers.
 
okay that makes sense. of course they are going to be pissed because it makes it look liek warren is neglecting his son and his own entertainment group, but seriously. his son is obviously jealous that's bullshit then they don't own his voice, if it was morgan freeman than yeah id probably file a lawsuit but warren's voice is not that distinguishable let alone worthy of having judicial arguments over.

Ok here's my comment. Hope it's for better rather than worse.
"I recently read that WME is suing Level 1 productions based on use of Warren Miller's voice in their movie "Refresh". I realize that you believe you have the rights to his voice, but this still greatly upsets me. What this says to me is that WME no longer cares about skiing or about the lifestyle, but instead the profits that can be acquired though these people. If you cared about the skiing or the stoke it brings (Which can be brought on by a good ski movie), then you wouldn't try to crush a smaller company that is embedded in the culture. If you truly understood the stoke and what Level 1 stands for and represents, it would be like attacking a sibling. Skiers don't fight skiers. So though I have enjoyed your movies in the past while growing up, I have recently felt that your company has detached itself from the true skiers. The ones who wake up early to stand in line for hours for first tracks, or even just think about skiing every waking moment of their lives. This incident finalizes that idea. I will not watch another Warren Miller movie. I'll stand by companies like Level 1 that capture what skiing really is. It's amazingly fun, it's a lifestyle, and a reason to live. They fuel the core of skiing. I can not safely say that about your company any more. I felt that I needed to express this, as I know that there are many skiers who feel the same way as I do. "
 
Morgan Freeman has rights to his own voice.

As does Warren Miller.

In the case of the ski world, most people could recognize both Warren Miller's and Morgan Freeman's voices.
 
i was more joking, just trying to reinforce the point that slandering other people's websites has never worked for ns, a quick example being the lifecaster guy
 
Perhaps someone should start a petition that members can sign, so that WME doesn't have to read everyone's bad grammar?
 
Before we all jump on the bandwagon and message the shit out of these guys, can anyone officially confirm that a lawsuit has been filed for this absurdity?
 
I sent them an email saying I will not buy their product or see the movie premieres, I have for 5 years now... So yea, they will be losing $$$$$$

WARREN MILLER COMPANY is NOT the same thing as Warren Miller Entertainment Group (which is involved in the lawsuit). Do not direct responses to WMC.
 
I dont think any members of the Warren Miller family have a direct role at WME anymore. It was sold off years ago
 
Somebody make sure TGR knows what's going on. I think this calls for a settlement of our differences, to unite against a common evil.
 
WMEG has now lost the entire next generation of skiers or at least informed skiers. What a horrible business decision. The head of that company should be fired because he obviously doesn't know a thing about the current culture of skiing.
Also, I'm surprised there are actual NS members that would still purchase a Warren Miller movie even if this lawsuit hadn't happened. Warren Miller was done in my book when PBP came out with 13 well over a decade ago.
 
The fact is, after Warren Miller left, the company stopped innovating. The movies they released became stale. When PBP came along and produced all these great movies that truly were new and innovative (Reasons is a great example), I think WME lost a lot of its fanbase, and really, relevance.

Its kinda funny, i wrote a rap about skiing around a year ago and I basically stated the same thing. Don't feel bad about it now either.
 
Fuckin' gay of WMEG, I doubt L1 would use his voice without the proper paperwork being in place. Still sucks they have to fight it, maybe they can counter sue for lost time and court costs. Someone should slap lil' Miller in the face.
 
I doubt the lawsuit would proceed that quickly. It's an intellectual property lawsuit, though, so there's no guarantee. They're not seeking a block against sales of the DVD.

I've watched Warren Miller movies for a LONG time. I know a lot of the skiers from the old time. And this pisses me off. The L1 premier in Denver was all about respect for old and new, big mountain and urban. Berman and his crew did a great job bringing in Warren Miller to show that respect.
So L1 puts together a movie with an inclusive, multi-generation, anti-hater message and what happens? They get a dose of corporate law. Even if WME has the law on it's side, from now on when I hear warren miller entertainment I won't think of "beyond the edge" or "steep and deep" I'll think big business.
I don't think hate mail is going to matter much to WME. We need a L1 defense fund. For my party I ordered a 9 pack of L1s old dvds (I already have refresh preorder). Whatever happens to this thing in court lets make sure L1 comes out on top of WME

 
This calls for a major FUCK! I sent mine to Warren Miller Company. I guess I'll send an apology. What's the difference between WMC and WMEG?
 
Shit, I hope this doesn't hold up the dvd's.
I don't see how this can go very far though as WM obviously wanted to do it.
 
This is such bullshit. Everyone tell your friends to tell their friends to tell their friends about this. I don't really see this working out in WMEG's favor as it (hopefully) will turn into a great publicity boost for Level 1.
