Brass Edges. the future?

good point. there wouldn't even be a need to detune your edges. after a day or two they would be perfect

if the brass is softer you couldn't hit any ledges especially concrete or the edge would just completely wear off. ive hit boxes that have filed down my edges after one hit! they wouldn't last very long at all

yeah! and then we could have interchangeable topsheets for different graphics on different days! then we could have a switch that lowers down tail of the ski to go faster! and then we could get little flaps to change the width underfoot. so on pow days you could have a wider waist!!!

that would be cool, and it seems like it would work. but metal is cheaper than brass so ski prices would steepen for sure.

Haha Im not saying turn the ski into a transformer...

I just think it would be possible to allow new edges to be placed in underfoot when your old ones wear out. Although it would be a big innovation because of the way skis are currently made...with the edges being glued in and all.

BUMP for good discussion.

The Rome Artifact board has bronze edges, factory beveled, sounds sweet to me if some skis had this.

I think this is a good idea and its one of the many things that our sport will offer in the near future. Although does anybody know if Rome or whatever just went to brass edges cause it was affordable?

That sounds ridiculous. Granite is not a flexible material. I think it would snap pretty easily, or make for a ridiculously stiff and heavy ski. I checked out their website and that model isn't available yet (prototype apparently). they do have skis with titanium strips on the topsheet though. sounds stiff as hell. I'm interested in how granite could work though, b/c it just doesn't sound feasible to me.

wouldn't brass bend alot easier than steel? I don't think it will really work, and it would be hard to tune them up

That's why they would put them on park specific skis. I don't know about you, but I don't tune my park skis.

im surprised companies havent experimented with edge materials more. i think titanium would be perfect, although slightly expensive, and aluminum wouldnt rust. actually silver might even be good.

You sure? Copper seems like it would a lot more expensive than brass. I remember watching a Detroit Swat episode and people would steal copper wires from telephone poles, and then sell it for huge amounts of cash.

true story

copper has gone up enormouse amount in the past couple years.

u used to be able to buy a 250 ft roll of 14-2 romex for like $40 now its almost 150$ in some places.

haha ya, i was drunk.

it is like redonkulous.

nickle would be good, its soft and maliable. you would always have dull edges, but you wouldnt get caught up.

actually, volkl used Taluminum on their Karmas for a long time. Its a titanium/alluminum alloy, and its so sick. its harder than the steel rails, so i actually take out small chunks out of some of the killington rails. they use them on a lot of their skis. mostly its for the race skis.
