Brand new to skiing any tips or gear would be apperciated

I don't have much money especially sence I've already bought brand new skis and I need like goggles poles gloves and all the pants and jackets any help would be appreciated. Thanks new skier lol
 
I have one more thing to add sorry for double post but do you need to have a helmet on the mountain or can you rock a hat?
 
lets say the boots are whats gonna fuck you the most if you get the wrong ones.. the wrong ski.. is still skiable but the wrong boot.. shits gonna hurt.

rock the helmet, especially if you're new and want to progress into park.

for the clothes you have to tell us what kinda style you wanna rock.

häxa, saga, Fasq, oakley, armada... etc all those brands have different styles.

for goggles, check out out of goggles ( out-of.it ) are tits, especially "the one".

other than that... oakley would be my second choice.. but really, there are so many brands to choose from that are good

sparknotes: go to a bootfitter other than that mostly depends on style and budget

 
So what your saying is I should spend the money and get a good comfortable boot, so there's like no rubbing and like blistering lol, I can imagine if you got a big boot obv your gonna sweat so I'm sure it would kill. But where do I find a boot fitter
 
Definitely spend money, and more importantly, TIME on boots. go to shops. try them on. try many pairs. Find the ones that FIT, note: they may not be the most comfortable ones. Then take those to bootfitters if needed.
 
well its not about the sweating as much as it is about the movement.

boot has to be tight as a motherfucker when you get it (if it has a self-molding liner like FTs)

the reason it has to be tight/snug fitting, is that if you move in your boot you will get toe bang, shin bang anything bang, because if you lean back and your boot is loose, your toes will be squeezed against the front, yet if your boots are tight around the ankle, it will be held there, in a comfortable position, so that your toes dont have to bear that weight.

bootfitters are at any good ski shop.

 
Like everyone's saying find boots that fit. I reccomend electric eg2's for goggles, they're huge and barley cut any perferial vision. For poles literally find the cheapest poles (they'll probably break) with skinny grips ( makes it easier for grabs) and cut them to the size you want. For outerwear find what's on sale, saga has good deals on right now as well as many other brands. For gloves I would get something of good quality, it's not neccisairy but I hate cold fingers haha.
 
Boots are the mostttt important thing without good boots your not gonna enjoy skiing, definitely get a helmet nothing worse than concussions and wearing a helmet is just alot safer in general, as for outerwear shop around in brands like armada, saga etc.. If your looking to save a little money check out sell and trade and find something you like
 
Buy good boots! Go to a boot fitter and get decent boots they're the most important thing in your kit.

Also it's probably a good idea to get a custom foot bed because they help a lot and make your boot more comfortable and supportive.

And buy a helmet. My helmet has stopped me from getting concussed multiple times.
 
What about poles and like gloves and goggles, like I know boots are very important and I've been looking Into it but what about like the small stuff
 
Just to expand a bit on the gloves go to the local ski store try a couple on and see which are the most comfy and warm. Some good brands are Outdoor Research (OR), POW and Reusch
 
Honestly if your new to skiing I wouldnt be asking for help on this site. Everyone on this site only knows about nicer gear. If your new just pick up some shitty gear at a local ski swap or something.
 
We have a pretty good online classifieds where I live, I'm always checking it for ski gear. I've got some pretty good deals from it. You always have those kids whose parents are buying them brand new gear every year. Butt for reals the most important piece's of gear are your boots and tall tee's
 
Yeah I got some black and yellow line pin poles for like 30 bucks a few years ago. Made it 3 seasons with them and they have never bent. Plus the grips on them are awesome.
 
OP to find a good bootfitter post in regionals to find a good one.

After you find a good boot that fits properly, start your search for everything else. Right now lots of gear is on sale but used gear is still cheaper so hit a replay sports shop in a ski town and you can find anything.
 
Get a pair of goggles on sale somewhere over the summer. Same thing for a helmet. Buy the goggles after you get a helmet, so that they work comfortably together.

Buy whatever outerwear you want. Style and brand is all relative. Just get something that will keep you warm and dry until you figure out what you want to spend your money on. Same goes for gloves. If you're warm and dry, you'll have a better day learning how to ski.

Get some cheap skis and poles from a ski swap in the fall. If you look around, you should be able to get a set for under $100. Don't spend money here until you've gotten the basics of skiing down.
