So I have a slight gap in my front teeth and a little 'twist.' I have the opportunity to get braces for a year (or so they say). I'm thinking this is a small price to pay to have straight teeth for the remainder of my life (they're covered 100 percent by my dad's insurance). Anyone have them? Think I should just do it and get it over with? Half of me wants to keep the gap because it's kind of unique...

get a retainer. or those plastic molds that you wear. no one can see them and they are cheap and not permanent.

id go with the braces, sure you'll look like a dumbass, but if you keep up with it, they get done faster, and look really good.

DON'T get the retainer thing that's clear, i had one and it gets so gross and cleaning it is a bitch

braces aren't that bad, i had em for almost 4 years, the only bad thing was when they tightened them it like hurt to eat and stuff, but oh well...

Ya, apparently I'd only need them for 12 months. I'm thinking it's worth it. Also, I'd have to get micro surgery in my mouth because that little flap of skin in the middle of your upper lip and gum goes too low and doesn't allow my teeth to close together.

yeah, i got em. they sorta suck b/c they hurt a lot, and it cuts up yer mouth..... but it will be worth it. get em now... that way you can get it over with.

I had the exact same problem. I had the surgery and my gap is gone. My teeth were really ugly. Get them, it is so worth it. Just get clear rubber bands. They don't show as badly.

 
id get it done. but i fucking hate braces and orthadontists... they are all lieing sons of bitches. i got braces wheni was really young cause i had a class 3 underbite. they said 2 years. 2 turned to 3, 3 to 4.. and befor you know it im in grade 9 and i still have braces. 6 fucking years. as long as that doesnt happen to you, youll be fine.. its not that bad.

well my dad is a dentiist so the ortho guy in town gives them to me for free... Go with clear braces on your front 6 teeth. My friends didn;t even notived them and till i told them. They cost more but its worth it. Also they don;t hurt that much just take some aspren or and drug and ther fine.

 
today i was playing lacrosse with a friend but i wasn't wearin a helmet 'cause im a dumbass and i got hit in the mouth and 6 of my braces ripped off. It hurt like a bitch.

braces suck but there worth it (just wear a helmet)

get the braces, they aren't too bad. i had them for 4 years and it was definitely worth it.

^Fuckin' Heinous! I had braces for 3 years? I had some crazy teeth man, def worth it, before I was getting little no play with the ladies, now, well, I'm a loser... Anyways they do rip the hell out of your mouth, I played trumpet when I had them so they really fucked things up. But it's a small price to pay, especially if they're free, in order to live the rest you life minus a nasty grille.

 
I am in a similar situation I just has crowding and an overbite, they said one year, but one year in their words will always mean 16 months. remember that. just always add about 4 months to whatever they saw.

Go with the braces. They're not that bad actually. I've had mine for two years, and now they're a part of me. But orthodontists lie. I like mine, he's great but they told me 16 months or so. I'm coming up to 24...

i get mine off in june, its definatly worth it, my only advise is to take a few advil right after you get them on otherwise eating hurts a lot.

Cool, thanks for the advice guys. My teeth aren't that bad and some people say I shouldn't bother but I think that if I got it over with now I'd be more content with myself for the rest of my life. haha. I hope it is only a year though. I heard peoples teeth chift at different paces so it could be less, or could be more depending on how fast mine move.

lick your teeth alot before u get them on

when they are on, eat tough meat so you get the pain over with and you can eat anything you want untill they get tightened

gum helps with pain

 
a year is not bad. and if it's 100% covered, than it's a no brainer. Besides, you're supposed to brush your teeth before you put those invisaline things in or else your teeth will rot

Yeah, I had to get that surgery done. My doctor's name for it was Woodcock, which was pretty awesome. But anyway, I'm getting braces soon, so I'll probably still have them in my senior year of high school, which quite blows.

Think of it this way, when you're outta high school you'll have nice, straight teeth. Who cares about high school?! Tons of chicks have braces anyways, and they're not gonna get in the way that much right? Personally I think braces can be seen as an accesory if you think about it. Haha, some chicks look damn fine in them... so why can't guys get away with it.

i had braces for 3 years and it wasn't that bad. it was totally worth it for me to have straight teeth.. but if you are comfortable the way you are then it doesn't really matter

 
hahaha, my dentist said i had a slight bite problem, and that i would have my braces off in 6-12 months, well its 23 months and i still got them, and they arent coming off soon... dont believe your dentist, expect atleast 2 years...they arent too bad after you get used to them though...

watch out for your dentist/orthodontist to be a bitch, my friends mom is one, and she just had a 5 page article blasting her in the local paper because she takes people in with nothing wrong with them and gives them 30k full mouth reconstructive surgery, shes bein sued out the ass now

my orthodontist skiped the country cuz he was wanted for masive tax fraud. i don't really know if he was even a real orthodontist... he never wore gloves or anything.... meh my teeth are straight now :)

Yeah Austin get them, I've had mine for 7 months. The only bad thing is (for me, I could not eat whole food for 2 weeks, when I first had them)

Also every 4-6 weeks you have to go back there and get them tighter and tighter

I had a gap also, it mended in 5 months. I'm doing well with mine.
