I'm doing a personal survey for myself. I just got braces and I think orthodontists are the biggest scammers around, anyway here are the questions. If you have not had braces then you don't need to answer.

What age did you get braces at?

How long did the orthodontist say you were going to have them?

How long did you actually have them?

If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money?

I find that everyone I have talked to, the orthodontist recommended keeping them on longer and charged them more money. Coincidence I really don't think so...

How long did the orthodontist say you were going to have them? 2 years

How long did you actually have them? 2.5 years

If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money? No, one price upfront

How long did you actually have them? 3 years plus 1 year with retainer.
If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money? yes.
I agree with your conclusions. defiantly a scam, but i am grateful to have straight teeth, worth it.

How long did you actually have them? till im almost 18

If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money? No, he clearly stated that we were not going to drop one more penny than what we paid.

note: my braces are still on, so,, yeah

How long did you actually have them? 3 years plus head gear, plus retainer

If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money? pretty much everything he said would happen did so no extra charge, except i had a backwards tooth that had to be spun around. ya my grill was pretty effed.
 
Got them on in 8th grade. I was supposed to have them on for 1.5 years. I have had them on for 3 years, and I will get them off in a few months. I was recommended to have them longer, but that was because i had a tooth stuck in my sinus cavity, so I had oral surgery to get it down, which led to the longer term
 
I got my braces in 2nd grade.

My teeth/mouth were so messed up so I knew I needed them for a long time.

Got them off before I went to high school in 7th grade, so roughly had them 4-5 years.

Never had one 'adult' tooth pulled.

Insurance covered alot of it.

I love my smile. My orthodontist rocked. Unfortunately alot of my friends who have had braces haven't been as lucky as I was.

i got mine on in 6th grade and the orthodontist said i would have them on for 18 months... its been 21 and i still have them on. and about the extra charges and stuff i dont really know

i just booked the final appointment... it will be like 20 days over 2 years.

So its legit.

BUT, i know the guy on a personal level, he is a skier. so hes pretty sick, i have skied with him and his son and i see him like every weekend in the winter. So he is legit.
 
Said I would need them for 2 years, had them for four. had to get 9 teeth pulled before i got them put on. Got them off in grade 12 and they were worth every penny. I would get them 10/10 if i had to do it again.

ask ur friends, im sure most had braces, ask them who the good local ortho is the best. and didnt keem em on for longer.
 
i got braces in like early middle school (honestly dont remember age, probably 11 or 12)

dont remember how long he said

had them on for like 4 years

i didnt get charged for length, just a basic package

my teeth, and my brothers teeth are fantastic now. my brother was bucked tooth and now has a perfect smile
 
Never had braces, and never had a filling, or any other work.

Which nation has bad teeth now, bitches?

I'm lucky in that my teeth are pretty straight and whitey white!

I've also never had any fillings or anything... maybe thats because in our area they pump fluoride into the water supply, controversial for sure!

Bad teeth stereotyping? GTFO!
 
I got my braces when I was 14 and and wore them for 2 years. I actually wore a mara (sp?) for 6 months before that. My teeth were TERRIBLE. Like, the worst teeth ever. Now, I have perfect teeth, I wear my retainers every other night and they're straight a year after getting them off. I was surprised at how fast my teeth moved and that it only took 2 years. I seriously have teeth behind teeth and a really bad bite. Holy wall of text, batman.
 
got them on at 12only supposed to have them on 2 yearsgot them off at 16didnt get charged extra, probably because the dude just didnt take them off. i didnt get any recommendation to keep them on longer
 
I think the real scam is them telling you that you need braces when you really dont. I know ao many people who's teeth were fine but ended up getting braces because the orthodontist reccommended it. Just another great way to make money off peoples insecurities.
 
Braces since the end of 8th grade. I'm getting the impressions done next monday for my retainer so I must be close. I was and still am schedualed to get them off decemeber.
 
It's so true, I thought my teeth were fine and then my dentist recommended I go get an x-ray cause one of my back tooth wasn't coming down yet. Got my x-ray at the orthodontist and then there just like yeah the tooth will come down fine, but.... we do recommend we fix your bite and you have extra space at the back of your mouth that we can fix.

They offer perfection and that what sucks everyone in. In the end my parents just started the treatment and now I got my braces on.

Im planning on getting braces in the spring after i get my wisdom teeth out, and to be honest im pretty excited.

I got molds made a few years ago but didnt go through with it so no hopefully now ill get some straight teeth!

ps im 20 almost 21
 
ive had braces off and on for 6ish years i think. they told me that i could might have them until my late teens. im 16 now and will be continuing treatment until im 19. but my orthodontist was pretty straight up with us. he said there would be 2 phases probably and that we wouldnt know until after the first phase was over. now i have to get surgery to make my upper jaw larger. my orthodontist also tries to give us the best payment plan too. hes a pretty awesome guy, not a scammer at all

If you were recommended to keep the along longer did you get charged more money? No. we paid a flat fee for the whole shebang

I hated that man so much. But to be fair he didn't try to rip us off.
