well... unless they were employed by BP, i don't think you can blame BP for them wanting to volunteer to help clean up the spill. they freely chose to do it knowing the potential risks. it sucks, but its clearly not their fault and anything that could be done to help, should.

Until there is a reliable source on the story I won't believe that thousands of workers are dying. If its true this is horrible and will be in the news soon enough. If this is some sort of hipster fakery I will be deeply saddened for those individuals and hope the worst for them

Yeah I agree with all of this. If the government takes it seriously they will launch an investigaton and it will go from there.

this, and the fact they they signed for volunteer work are my thoughts. Unfortunately they might have signed a contract to do the work which may not hold BP liable for anyone who dies/is injured.
All in all, people shouldn't die from it though.

sucks theyre dead and condolences to their families and all that, but its a well known fact that unrefined oil is highly toxic to humans. this was a known risk going into the cleanup too, i actually think i remember seeing a warning site or something when the spill happened.
