Bozeman Area

Me and a few buddies are gonna be in Bozeman from about Dec 16-22 and are planning on skiing Bridger, Moonlight, and Big Sky, but we kinda want to take one day and just find somewhere in the Bozeman area to build a backcountry kicker and session it all day. I was just wondering if anyone has any suggestions of a good place to do this? Thanks!

theres always beehive basin. just make sure you hike in past the forest service boundary or you could get a trespassing ticket, as i did earlier this fall.

If there's enough snow by then, there's a spot where people build a HUGE jump over on Slushman's just outside the Bridger boundary. I've seen people go 80+ feet off of it, and it doesn't just send you out. Get a hold of me around the time you're going and I'll tell you if it's set up or show you where to build it, conditions permitting.

Yeah, it's that one that's almost even with the top of Pierre's. It didn't get built big last year, so you haven't seen it in its full glory...yet. That jump gets massive on good snow years, and you just drop forever down the landing. If we get a good snowpack this year I might be down with a jump sesh out there sometime.

nice. i saw it last year, but the potential is there for a huge jump.  we will pry be out there filming this winter if we get snow in the bridgers.

I've been eyeing that jump for 3 years, but for some reason have never had the motivation to hike up there and build it. I'm def down for a sess on that thing this year.

i might have to get a hold of u guys later this winter too. lmp and i are lookin to do some good bc this year and u guys make this thing sound pretty ill. ill hit u guys up later this season...

Weird...it's like nobody's noticed the gigantic booter that's been on Slushman's in plain sight for the past 6 years. Anyways, with a bunch of people it should go up fast, and I suck at jumps so there will at least be some entertainment value.

I have noticed it many times, just never taken the effort to go hit it when I have the opportunity. Damn those chair lifts.

I've skinned by it a few times envisioning my naxos blowing up on impact after sailing 60 feet. That jump is kind of in the zone where it's kind of far to bootpack if you're lazy as hell (ex: me). So I usually just skin by and ride sweet pow instead. The only really fun thing that's an easy bootpack out of bounds is that cliff out the north gate, that thing is awesome at the end of a big day.

Ha, yeah just because 5 kids are talking about on newschoolers the already extremely visible windlip will get super skied out.

Nah, let's just build a sick mogul line down it instead. It can be a top secret world cup mogul course instead of the uber secret wind lip that it is right now. I'm open to showing people other hidden gems like this cliff called DRCS or the diving board. They're pretty much locals only stashes. Brah.

There was a bit of sarcasm there. I'm totally open to showing people the really obvious spots (like the aforementioned) because, well, they're easy and everyone can see them. However, I'll only show friends some of the sweet lines off high t, the ridge, and the ramp. There's no need to be that guy that thinks every spot is a secret, it's ok to show some people the basic stuff at the mountain.

totally agreed. i hate when there's a group of newbs that go through and trash all the good spots cuz a bunch of there friends new how to get to them. shits unforgivable!

Sorry for my own sarcasm. I agree that the Ridge Hippies can really ruin it for people. My first winter at Bridger the amount of secrecy surrounding some of the stashes was funny, all from kids who were not really from MT. Let the hordes huck the superman and DRCS, and the windlip. I am just in fear of bradley meadows future (there I go, dropping the cards).

Yeah, bradley and the ramp are going to change a lot with a lift over there. That kind of sucks, but at the same time it should help to disperse people and alleviate the huge crowds on Bridger on powder days. The lift on slushman's will have its pros and cons too; my favorite couloir over there gets tracked after 4-5 people have been down it, so that will be done. On the other hand, Truman should be sick with access a little closer.

I'm just imagining the brawls there will be between people skinning and the people who decide it's cool to bootpack up the skin trail. It's already bad enough as it is, but next year the ramp is going to be gaper central. Last year some people totally destroyed the whole thing, then asked me where to go at the top. I started to point them south, but then I just decided to tell them that you can't ski anything good off the ramp without AT gear.

Ha I love the amount of kids that come here from everywhere but Montana and think they know everything about our skiing.

I love them too. They come to Bridger expecting to ski 3' of powder, then leave diappointed when all they do is ski hardpack on the lower mountain and north bowl for a few days. It makes me happy every time I see some kid post about how our terrain sucks.

hit me up sometime  we go back country every weekend   an it would be fun to have more people along its usually just 3 of us.      As for the windlip, that thing is haggard anyway If you really boost it there trees way down there, and the ground is rocky as shit alot of times, it take alot to cover it. Theres much better places that will remain a secret anyway

im from illinois and drive an element, however, i saw a black element with illinois plates at bridger, so i dont know who your thinking of, was that you?

no, we were driving back from bridger, and there was an element in front of us with illinois plates and a NS sticker on the back, so I was wondering who it was

rad dude. well we should be comin up there sometime after christmas break. we got a whistler trip planned in mid jan so we'll probably come up after that since were all tight on cash. as for tjski, he truley is lazy and wont hike it unless its right in front of us...
