The best way to lower gas prices is to buy gas from every company EXCEPT Shell and Esso. The prices WILL drop if everyone does that.

OPEC didnt reduce the gas supply recently, in fact with Iraq gas supply has increased into American oil companies' stock. It is simply the oil refineries in the U.S. which isnt at its full capacity. They normally run at 80-85% but are currently around 65% capacity. The oil exists, it's just not being refined. Cant you see it, they're 'playing games' with us.

A boycott would hit the right people.

 
And JD- boycotting certain oil companies will make a very little or no impact on anything.

All American oil companies is on same team. Most of oil came from Iraq is pumped by VP Cheney's former company Halliburton, also Howe-Baker Engineering Inc., Mobil Oil, and Pullman-Kellogg companies is currently` involved on pumping oil in Iraq..

Oil Daily magazine reported that Shell, BP, Chevron, and Coastal are among the companies interested in buying Iraqi crude oil.

Iraq holds world's 15% of crude oil.

 
I would think that boycotting those two in particular would case them to lower their prices, and initiate a price war (after their prices drop, everyone buys solely from them, and then the other companies drop theirs). The last time that happened, I was buying gas at 40 cents a litre (disgustingly cheap for here). Now that it's over a buck, taking the bus doesn't look so bad.

If there's train, bus, and other transportation is available in this area, I would have taken that oppournity with no questions asked. But they're not readily available in this area, so that leaves me no other option except to take my economy sized car to commute to work and other places. I envy these Europeans that have plenty of other transportation methods available. You really have to think about others. I was told people in California & Hawaii is paying $3+ per gallon. 2/3 of Americans is earning below poverty-level incomes, it's more than enough to raise hell on our middle-class wallets. I had to lend my mom gas money more often to pay for her gas cuz apparently her making $60k a year isnt enough. I'm getting very tired of corporates' bullshit. They own this country now and we dont.

I see that you lack significant amount of brain cells because you missed my point-

I'm sure nearly everybody in US will use other transportation method if it IS offered to them, but there's very limited choices we have here comparing what Europeans have, most of em dont own a car- so that's why it's $5 a gallon in Europe.

There's not a fuckin bus stop, or passenger train for miles here, that forces me and my family & neighbors use our vehicles. Stop thinking about yourself. Not all buses stops in every parts of cities.

 
Yeah, after being to switzerland, I fully realize that the Vancouver bus system (which wins awards, somehow) totally sucks ass. Their public transportation is awesome, they have electric trains running along the streets. It's great.

i do not know the numbers, but normal citizens in their cars are a small fraction of total fuel consumption. think trucking industry, airplanes...

sell your gassoline run car, buy a diesel run vehicle make a couple modifications and you can run it on vegtable oil, which is free from restaurants or schools or fastfood joints. Or you can buy biodiesel which is made from vegtable oil and has no fossil fuels in it(meaning you are not supporting gasolleen companies).

First off, I dont know one person who fills their car every day. and there are only like 3 diff actual gas companies in the fucking world. they own all of the other ones. and their daily profit is in the billions, so all you morons who think that you will make a difference, its impossible.

well let me relate a story: after watching calgarygasprices.com for several weeks, the top10 cheapest stations are always small obscure stations (and the Indian gas station of course). The top 10 most expensive stations are dominated by the big 3 - PetroCan, Shell and Esso. Thats proof enough for me. How can the little guys afford to sell for 8 cents a litre cheaper??? Because the big guys are fucking everyone. So make them pay. Last time gas was expensive, on the radio they said 'tomorrow gas is going to shoot over 1.00 a litre, everyone panicked and filled up but there was noticeably less business at the major stations because that e-mail was going around. guess what? the prices never went up and soon dropped after that. the big companies tried one last ditch attempt to make a buck because here at least just driving around you tell people were avoiding the big gas stations. Its not asking you to riot in the streets, its asking you to drive a couple blocks away and buy gas thats cheaper anyways. And it does make a difference.

Also Semis uses Diesel fuel, and jets uses different kind of gas, not ones they buy directly from gas station, morons.

 
It would certainly have an effect, but wouldn't they overcome their losses and regroup fairly quickly? I mean if we went, say, 2 weeks without driving, then maybe this would cripple them, but a day... seems like too little to me. I don't know enough about it to make judgements or anything, that's just how it seems.

but, deisel and airline fuel all contain petroleum or 'crude oil'. this crude oil is heated to produce many different kinds of fuel from solvents to gasoline to DIESEL fuel to lubricating oils. mmmmm mm lubricating oils
