Boycott burton

i have burton gloves... they are very nice...

i have always been in favor of rebellion where simple logic and reasoning achieve no results... this is one of those cases...

power to the poachers....

the people hating on it are prob kids with one of those old crusty skiers for parents or something...

more enjoyable without boarders??? how so?? that is the most idiotic thing ive ever heard...

My guess is that it has been thought about and planned for a while. The poaching contest just hurried it along. I bet the plan was to allow boards at the end of the year (just like Aspen did the first year they allowed boards) and then go full on next season. The contest made them announce what they are doing early.

Just my guess.

I was talking to a couple guys who work for Gravis exactly about Burton's success. Success is a bitch and the primary reason Burton has so many lines (Red, Anon, Analog, etc.) is to prevent the appearance of being part of the man.

While your arguments are completely valid, if it were Line skis who did a conp like this, everyone would talk about how cool it was simply b/c Line is so small.

Unfortunately, the larger you get, the more investors you typically have to please. If Burton runs around with an boatload of cash on their balance sheet, it'll piss off investors.

Say what you want about Burton, but I've never seen them be disrespectful to their customers. If you show up at their Burlington headquarters they almost always exchange stuff when it breaks. Find another company that ships everything from all their worldwide stores back to Burlington (their hometown) for a huge discount thank you sale (I know Orage/Siver recently started doing that). It's not like they treat any of their riders or employees like crap. I've never met a Burton employee (even upper level management) who says they'd go work for someone else.

Yeah i thought this comp was hilarious/ingenious. Its rediculous that snowboarders still arent allowed on mountains because of their "attitude". I would say most skiers on this site have the exact same attitude as any snowboarder. We can be just as obnoxious if not more.

Nice try but you failed to see the big picture entirely. considering these resorts are privately owned by supposedly free people then they should obviously have the right to regulate the types of activities that occur on their own private property. to tell the owners of these resorts that they have to allow snowboarding occur on their mountain would be a terrible violation of the owners freedom. you dont want people to jib your car, these owners dont want people to jib their mountain, its their mountain and they can do what they want with it.

furthermore America is a capitalist country and these owners feel like they can make more money by only allowing skiers. These people should be allowed to conduct their business however they want. that is real freedom.

I am pretty sure if these mountains press charges against burton for paying people to engage in criminal activity against the resort they will win.

the idea of boycotting burton because they want ski only mtns to expand to boarders is pretty funny. they are a snowboard company, so obviously they want more mtns available to snowboarding. i think it safe to say that the thread creator didn't think this boycott through.

well we know some one is a homophobe, and has to call people fags because some one made a comment about something you like to make yourself feel better. but really honestly burton's boards and bindings are extremely overpriced and under quality. ive known many people who have had thier burton bindings break with in a week of getting them, with normal use, and others just breaking within first year of use. thier boards are not quality unless your paying around a 1000 bucks whih is still overpriced. your just paying for the name thats all it is, way better companies out there with better quality and better ideas of snowboarding rather than just goin the biggest and best and about spinning like a ballerina

it is likely that Burton knows this and they think a law suit will be good publicity for them and the benefits will outweigh the costs.

Although trespassing is a criminal activity, its so minor that their is noway that a company would ever be charged under criminal law with solicitation because of it. As far as being sued, the only way that a civil case would be successful is if the mountain could demonstrate loss of profit because of this trespassing. I'm sure that is not possible so I don't think Burton has to worry.

Isn't a large portion of Armada owned by a private equity company or outside investors?  To my knowledge Burton doesn't have the same corporate structure.  And 4Frnt isn't going anywhere, so arguing about them is pointless, maybe they should switch factories again to produce more subpar, at least in durability skis.

agreed, dont buy their stuff. burton makes good products and throws good events but the way they dropped skiers and perpetrate this mid-90s ignorant hate towards skiers is lame, even though skiers probably make up for 25% of there sales! by dropping some of the top pro skiers in the industry they are saying that skiing is not for them, so we should say, anything burton, anon, gravis, forum, 4square, spcl blend, channel island surfboards, analog, red, (did i miss anymore?) is NOT for skiers, so they don't deserve our money. there's plenty other accepting snowboard (and ski) companies that do deserve our money because they give us their respect, or at least don't slap skiers in the face and gladly take their money. thoughts?

^^^^about my last post. it was just kind of a rant about burton, everyone has one if you live in burlington however this thread was about the highly debated contest. my opinion on that is it's a well concieved idea that obviously worked to get people talking about burton (all press (mostly) is good press) but on the other side makes them look like childish whiny bitches. let the crusty old skiers have a few places to retreat from us jackass snowboarders (yea, i snowboard) and just continue to sit back and bitch about it, this industry is built on hate anyways. lets see what happens when skiers go to the AWESOME RAILS AND BOXES THAT ARE SET UP AT BURTON HQ ALL THE TIME (industrial ave, S. Burlington, VT, near Red Rocks Park) that are supposedly open to everyone. Someone please make a video of this and post it

What's with all this hate for Burton?

My step-dad works for Burton, and all I've heard from it is great. They really aren't THAT large of a company.. They've got an HQ in Burlington, and a few stores in Chicago, NYC, LA, and Tokyo. The atmosphere is great, all the employees just love snowboarding, and thats what it's all about. The entire building is empty after big dumps, because they all love snowboarding just as much as we love skiing.

Isn't it a bit hypocritical that they do something "hateful" by poaching a few great resorts, and then we turn around and bitch and cry about how they are ruining our experience. Honestly, how many of you even ski at skier-only mountains? I have skied at Mad River for years and its no-snowboarding policy has changed it completely, but honestly it would be a very hard mountain for snowboarders since every inch is covered in huge moguls. It is kind of dick for mountains to say no snowboarders, so they rebel by doing a very very innocent act, riding down a mountain. Big deal! They hiked to the top, just like we all do pre-season. Theres no laws saying they cannot ride down the mountain, just that they cannot use the lifts.

As for the Burton equipment, I have never used a Burton board, but I know their outerwear is sick. I have an AK coat thats totally Gore Tex, and it is amazing. Perfectly wind- and water-proof, comfortable, and stylish. If it's that big of a deal, don't buy their stuff, nobody is making you, but don't ever think about looking down on somebody else for buying something of their choice.

So all in all, I am really disturbed there could be so much hate for a snow sport company. We all have a stereotype of snowboarders being rebels and complete dicks, but I have never met a mean, anti-skiing boarder, and I never expect to meet one. Snow is snow, and why does it matter if you use one or two boards to move across it? If it weren't for snowboards, we wouldn't have twin-tips, and this entire site wouldn't exist. So for all of you narrow-minded ego centric trendy whiny cunts out there, shut up and think about the other sides of this topic before you go cry about some ski area expanding their economic opportunities.

except some of these resorts are on public land, which snowboarders pay taxes to maintain, and can't ride, they have no case against burton either. everyone participating in this contest is not breaking any laws, they are buying lift tickets, and practicing simple civil disobedience, emerson would be proud and so am i

If you're a skiier and wear burton it's your choice....but wouldn't it be more worthwhile to go with a company like Orage...who only produces gear for skiiers???? That would show true support for waht you do....funny story the shop i work at refuses to stock bruton, so good lol

If Burton wishes to sponsor a contest like this then they must have thought about it at least enough so they know no legal complications can arise....and if legal matters do arise then they'll only be really small time things....

WRONG!

burton makes terrible, unreliable products. they hate on skiers. and they seem to have a corrupting influence on everything they touch.

i, personally dont give a shit what the company does. As long as they're not clubbing baby seals with honduran children, and their shit is high quality, i'll buy it. So i go to burton for boards and bindings, because they are high quality, thats all there is to it for me.

I think that is the shit. I think it is cool that you can get 5,000 to be a jackass. The patrollers are so funny in that video. Honestly who hasn't ducked

So rediculous

There are snowboarders....then there are pompous ass kids who think they're shit cause they're rebelling against some stupid rule that they know there are no repercussions for.

Yeah it's stupid that the resorts are ski only, but god damn, you have to admit, half the snowboarders out there are fuckin clowns who wear their stupid jerseys acting all god damn g-unit, smoke pot on the lifts, and pay absolutely no respect for anybody but their "crew"...seriously, I know a lot of newschool skiers and they're not half as annoying.

Fact of the matter is, the shit comes with the riders, and if kicking them out solves the problem, then you can cry about your democratic rights (which don't pertain by a contractually singed resort) somewhere else.

Everyone seems to be missing the fact that the resorts (well, mad river anyway) don't really care. If some boarders hike up at 5 am to shred, they earned their turns and nobody gets mad. If anything they cheer. Just look at mad river's recent picture of the day where they have the group of poachers posing for the shot and the caption says they were "visited by friendly poachers who were very respectful." So...please stop arguing. Poaching isn't a big deal.

this shit is getting out of hand. the brillance of this contest has been shown by how many "freeskiers" are pissed off by this. if you're a true freeskier/newschooler/whatever the fuck you wanna call it you wouldn't be bothered by the fact that burton, a company you prob wouldnt buy from anyways, wants to encourage poaching of awesome places to ride

Agreed. The fact of the matter is that I would rather be riding at Alta, MRG, DV, and Taos with boarders than most of the pompous assholes who are perpetuating this stupidity. I completely understand why these few resorts only allow skiers, they are catering to a certain segment of skiers, and more power to them. Business is business. But to bash on this competition is ridiculous. Please tell me that you guys would not participate in the same type of competition if it was the other way around... i.e. there were a couple all-snowboarder mountains, and a company such as Line or Armada decided to hold a competition to oach those mountains. The vast majority of people on here would be more than happy to participate. As long as they go about it in a respectable manner and dont screw with the skiers at the mountains then it's ok. They aren't hurting anyone. I would be angry if more people acted like the guys in the video who poached DV i think it was, riding over people's skis and such.

what i saw was burton trying to make money by doing this....they know that lots of posers like to buy into the sport because it is cool. and if they can show how rad and rebelious people are snowboarding in areas like that kids are gonna be like oh oh dad i want a burton board!

Boycott Burton!?!?! FORGET THAT! It's all about the BOTCOTT OAKLEY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11!!!!!!one!!!!!!!!!1!!!!!!

Come on you guys... YOu are all trying to talk about our roots. Lets face it, go beyond the sport and you'll realize that our(skiers and snowboarders alike) roots are much the same. We all want to have fun, we all want to get the snow, at any cost. Come on, weve all poached a run and gotten caught. If you haven't, I would dare say you arent a true skier or boarder. Its just part of the sport, go for the goods, try not to get caught, but don't worry about it if you do.

skiing magazine said snowboarding went down 13% so dropping all their skiers was a really stupid move. but everyone already knew that. i dont hate on snowboarding but i think burton is lame for going back to the "core board sports". whatever, it doesnt matter, there are tons of other awesome brands to buy.

i think its good that burton is doing that. those resorts are being ignorant to not let boarders in. and ive owned a ronin suit, anon goggles, and now a red helmet, and i have loved all of them. all super quality. i definately will not boycott burton. and i dont really give a fuck about anon dropping thier skiers.

i'm alright with snowboarding, but i think they should respect the rules of the mountains and stay off. If there was a snowboarder only mountain i think skiers would respect it. sure, i'll boycott burton, but i don't think there will be enough support to make an impact. after this contest i've lost my respect for burton.
