Boy the world is just rushing to our aid aren't they?

yeah I heard that quote about hiroshima on the new last night, the mayor was the one who said it to. I was so pissed off about this quote and how the US has gone about this issue of New Orleans that I wrote a huge ass post about my opinion. And then bam the page refreshes and I lost everything. I thought I had shut off the page refresh thing too. How can someone say something like that, how can the people of the US relate something like this to Hiroshima. Seriously how the US has gone about this issue just pisses me off. I can't stand it how they are reporting in the US, they make it seem like there the only ones anything has every happened to. I have a lot more to say about this but I'm not going to get hung up on this issue because my opinion most likely will be flamed by every american on this site (well most atleast).

The money given in the tsunami was used to save a ton of peoples lives, I wouldn't be suprised if the tsunami had more dead bodies to be move than the people that are in danger in new orleans.

And you said "where are they gonna move there stuff to if they don't have stuff to move" ??? all the more reason to leave! less to carry, you don't own the house you're in you don't have a car or many expensive things, the poor should take what they can on their back and go!

i heard about that, this one old lady is sitting down dying cause she doesn't have her heart medacation and the daughter is trying to get help but the poor lady is just dying right there and no one is helping, I thought canada was going to help but these people still have nothing

Like Mike said, if you are poor, you really can't make ends meet in a shithole like NO (not to upset anyone but wasn't it a crappy place on average to begin with) ,then why not take your poor ass out of there..? Go in a stadium, just fucking WALK, run, get the fuck out. That's what I would do, EXCEPT if I knew that after the storm is over, the city is in turmoil, shit I could go and loot some shit! Bling bling!

I know that most of NO is black, so I'm not spilling any stereotypes here, but looking at the footage on TV.. They're definately NOT out there looting stores just to survive. Like J.D said, the government is not excpeting a lot of deaths related to thirst/hunger. A man or a woman who has nothing, probably has nothing to lose either. So they go up robbing and killing hoping to make something better for themselves. That's what happens when a mind is corrupted. I know damn well that I'm too nice to survive in anarchy. I hope a disaster like that never happens near here. Peace out.

Above and beyond who hates who and who helps who, there are people down there dying. Ordinary people. I hate how people are classified as Americans. I imagine there are some pretty cool dudes down there up to their balls in water that could use help. It's disgusting to think how people automatically assume that all Americans are dicks. I've got beefs with the US Administration as much as the next person, if Bush's basement was flooded I'd crack a beer and smile, but where do you get off pushing your sympathy aside because it's Americans that are in trouble?

Obviously the US has the money and resources to rebuild that city. Everyone knows that, but in times of crisis when back up and emergency plans can't handle the stress it's important that others help out. We would want the support.

I agree fully that there show be a show of support from other nations in this time of need. But in all sources I have seen so far many nations (especially canada) HAVE offered support, which was brushed asside by the US saying "We can take care of ourselves for now, we'll call you if we need anything" The canadian Red Cross has mobilized a huge number of people and releif supplies which are heading down to NO, but thats only happening because they are an organization somewhat independant of the government.

I also think the US could better use the resources it currently has in the city. Sure over 4000 National guardsmen are currently there, with more coming, but EVERY SINGLE image I have seen shows them standing guard with rifles or swooping the city in helicopters looking for problem areas, while the much smaller police and fire teams, and voluteers handle the majority of the rescue efforts. Theres even reports that military personel have joined in the looting...saying one group had to ransac an office depot to get supplies it needed.

The evactuation of people to the other states (mainly texas) was a state organized effort, not that of the US as a whole. Again here the military primarily is providing security at the shelters, while the redcross and other agencies man the releif effort. The US military has the ability to create entirely self sufficient citys for thousands of personel in the middle of a desert, yet the have a hard time setting up safe havens in the middle of fully functioning cities.

I think JD covered enough of the comparison with asia and hiroshima so I will leave those alone.

i kno. its so gay. my mom and i were talking and we always rush to help any other country. then when something happens to us, everyone just sits back and doesnt do anything about it. kinda gay after so many millions (billions!?) of dollars we spend on other countries.

I doubt that having 7000 trained killers on the streets means anything to the stranded families with no food or water.
